Awwww man. Tge head gasket deal sucks. I just replaced the motor on mine, 3vze in my case. This is a super clear and instructive video. Thanks for the help.

I just bought some Old Man Emu rear leaf springs and greasable shackles for my 87 4runner. Bought some Rancho RS5000x shocks, too. I'll be doing this soon.

Will your parts list work for an 85' pickup? A vehicle fit check recommends 90-115 leaf springs instead of 90-119, so I want to confirm if the other parts will fit with the different leaf springs? Thank you very much, your video has helped a lot already.

I like the stock height in front of my 87. Did truck sit level after you installed the springs or was the back a bit tall?

Wow bad luck! Truck just wanted all the work done at once. I'm honestly pretty stoked for this content though.

Solid video, Sir. Bummer about the head gasket. Watching the liquid form underneath the truck during your commentary provided a certain level of suspense. Hope the rest of your projects go smoothly with minimal surprises!

Check your timing chain tensioners, mainly the one on the driver side of the engine, they wear out and rub against the metal and make an opening in the water pump case,

Old thread, but I had a 87 (that I wish I could find and get back) that I installed a 4.3 in from mostly scratch down to a set of headers/exhaust. It also had the notorious 'Butt-Sag' but after I implemented my Cheap DIY fix, no more problems !

Have you researched the ZUK mod where you add a helper spring between the leaf spring bump stops? Search it! My T100 carries max loads a lot better and sits like new after this mod.

Thanks for another great video. Oh my.... my first real flip vehicle was a first gen 4Runner. Got rid of it mainly because no one in the family liked it at all. Which is the reason I totally screwed up and should have kept the thing! Even had the impossible to obtain soft-top ( that I bought off CL like 5 states away ). The thing would climb anything. Have been surprised that in my FB MP 500 mile "looking around" area they have not held value well. Maybe it's due to what you quickly pointed out. Keeping rust away is difficult almost anywhere. Spring purchase/replacement is a fun task. Just replaced all on the 93' YJ. One at a time was fun. Mainly because I was too cheap to buy new stands for one vehicle. Still did it safely and without issue. Just longer fun times. Hoping you and your family have a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.

The values are all over the map on these, but most of them have seen a rough life. If you look at BaT, the nice ones are starting to bring strong money! This one will never be anywhere near a nice one haha.

Yes but a lot of people think they have sagging springs when they dont. its an optical illusion as the rear fender well is not cut out as high as the front.

Hey man, thanks for the great video! I actually got the same springs you have here from Michigan truck spring, and got all of the same hardware stuff you have because I wanted to fix the sag on mine too. Unfortunately my truck still sags! Has yours stayed level? Mine didn't change at all from old vs. new leafs which is weird to me because the new shackles are longer than stock?? Did I get bad leafs maybe?
@PracticalEnthusiast3 жыл бұрын
Nope, I think that's just how the leaf spring pack is. I noticed this in a later video and ended up installing an "add-a-leaf" kit and it got rid of the sag for good. Here's the video: kzbin.info/www/bejne/e6TVY52AbZWCgdk

Swap it out with a new v-6 , its worth saving and restoring after you take care of the rust. Please keep that 4 runner I regret selling my wife's identical 87' to yours. 10 years ago. they are classics now. I'm so glad we don't use salt in calif. on highways.

This has the V6 so it has a timing belt. But I had a Toyota truck with the 4 cyl that I replaced the chain/guides on. I made a video on it too! Been a couple years, titled "An Oil Leak Was Just The Beginning" if you're curious.

I've had many enquiries about the 4Runner suspension parts list shown in this video. I spent many hours (days, really) researching and constructing a thorough list for this job. This list has the highest quality parts at the best prices (with links of where to buy!). This list is available for purchase here: practicalenthusiast.gumroad.com/l/WunpVT Making this purchase will not only save you time and money tracking down parts to do this job, but it also greatly helps the Practical Enthusiast channel continue to create videos like you see here. Thank you for watching and for your continued support of the channel!
