Light Duty pickup truck. Ford Super Duty and Dodge Ram have SOLID front axles like the Landcruiser 70 for heavy load. Overseas the Landcruiser 70 is sold with a long aluminum truck bed for loading/work purposes.

All the Land Cruiser Prados (90 series, 120 series, 150 series, and the new 250 series) are classified by Toyota as light duty. That means the 3rd gen 4Runner/Prado, 4th gen 4Runner/GX470, and 5th gen 4Runner/GX460 are all classified light duty in global Toyota world. In reality, it will still off road and still last a million years. (Minus rust issues).

4:54 They dropped the Prado name for the 250 Series, so at least just calling it a Land Cruiser is not a huge sin anymore. It will still be called Prado in markets where it had that name already but on the global website they just say Land Cruiser 250.

Depends on the market. I’m pretty sure the Prado Name will survive in many markets, like Australia. The 250 they showed off at the Toyota Meeting last weekend in Germany also had a „Prado“ nameplate on it, I believe. Who gives a damn what they call it.

Markets that get the real Landcruisers will never drop the Prado name. It's a light duty comfy 4wd, just a nicely built soccer mum car.

@@akar2755 it‘s more than just a soccer mom car. At least it can be. Soccer mom cars these days are AWD non low-range independent suspension passenger cars. This still shares its bones with light trucks.

I’ll have to see real-life off-road capabilities of the 250 regardless if the GX550 is technically the better car. We still have to pay extra to get E-KDSS on the GX since it isn’t standard anymore.

The only consolation is light duty to Toyota would be heavy duty to most other manufacturers. Too bad we don't get the 300 over here if we really wanted to order it.

Like what Plucus21 said, you might want to get the GX460 while we still can. KDSS standard, unlike the GX550 which you have to go up to the Overtrail trim for E-KDSS.

„Light“ and „heavy“ duty are terms which refer to the use case of the vehicles. None is „better“ than the other. Each is best for its duty. It’s that simple. If you use a HD vehicle for camping, overlanding and off-roading while carrying 500lbs or so, that’s overkill. The vehicle will not perform as good as a LD vehicle would in the same situation. On the other hand, if you need to carry 2000lbs of crap all day while driving off-road constantly, the HD vehicle will do this better. Just look at the payloads and trailer weight stated by Toyota for each vehicle. Compare that to what you need to do. Then choose the right vehicle. Simple as that. Also, HD means you have much much stiffer suspension to carry stuff, so if you drive around in a HD unladen, you will be very uncomfortable.

Also has to do with creature comforts. 70 series is much more basic and rugged. If you are far out in real wilderness you don't want all the electronic stuff that makes life nice in the city but becomes a serious problem if it breaks down in rougher places in the world.

That said I also feel the GX 460 will prove over time that it is MUCH more heavy duty than this new Landcruiser by name only the 250 Series. Such a shame that Toyota’s best stuff only goes to foreign markets.

Not really. The Sequoia was an amazing SUV (3rd gen ruined it) and thr 4th gen 4Runner came with a V8 only in North America. The Grand Highlander is a phenomenal people carrier, the V6 Camry is amazing, GR Corolla, Tundra....

@@D.Dragoonwhat? They HAVE gone over 100 thousand miles! I have family living in the Middle East and they have a 2015 GX460 since new. 167,000 miles and running with no problems. Only normal maintenance. I’ve seen some US examples go for around 250,000 miles already.

Great video very helpful and useful. I will tell you I am definitely sticking with Lexus GX 460 and Lexus GX 550. In my opinion I do not like where TOYOTA is going in the US. I can’t believe they won’t bring the 300 series here but I am happy with my LX 570 I also I’m not going to the LX 600. I thought the LX 600 was just like the Land Cruiser 300 and it’s not again thank you for the information it was extremely helpful peace ☮️

Gotta sell the GX and Sequoia here somehow. And the LX. Hopefully they do bring back the flagship land cruiser here one day. It would kill all three of those. Also, a cloth-seat base trim LC300 starts at around $60k USD in the Middle East iirc. Would you be willing to pay that? Just curious.

Great points. Technically they could bring it 300 over in the 250 body style. But as many have said Toyota sold more Sequioas than Landcruiser 200s... so... 😢

@@LexusGX460-OFF-ROAD All they had, and have, to do is not sell the global top of the line Land Cruiser as America’s only land cruiser lol, that’s how it failed in America. We could’ve gotten the base trim V6 $60k USD LC200, but no, they sold us the overpriced top trim that we didn’t need (although the V8 was nice). If they’re going to bring the flagship LC back to the US, the Sequoia has got to go. Because If the next flagship land cruiser we get is a global base trim, it’s most likely going to start around $60k. That may conflict with GX pricing however, and will probably kill the LX in the US. People need to realize that base trim LC’s exist, and should beg for those to come. That’s how we can get cheap land cruisers.

@@faheemabbas3965 I think as long as the Sequoia exists in the US, the big Land Cruiser won't be brought back over. The Sequoia is only in north america iirc whereas it doesn't exist anywhere else hence reasoning for the big Land Cruiser filling it's position in those areas

Something you'll find very interesting is Ford considers the f650 in the f750 as medium duty. Everything below that is light duty. Ford considers heavy duty a full size tractor that can pull 80,000 lb like an 18 wheeler. The reason I know this is I transport chassis for Ford from the F-350 and E350 all the way up to the f-750. I deliver them to outfitters mostly to be finished for whatever they're job is going to be whether it's an ambulance a school bus a utility truck for a bucket truck small dump truck. I deliver to all these places that will finish these products for Ford. Thank you 👍

@@TSERJI Not by Ford corporate they refer to a F750 as a medium duty truck. A heavy duty truck to Ford would be a Kenworth or a Peterbilt Freightliner Western Star a real semi with a tandem rear end. Super duty is just marketing. Lol Thank you 👍

The new mini Land Cruiser will be a super light duty probably, OR maybe the new mini Land Cruiser will be the new light duty, the 250 platform will be the new regular and the 300 will be the heavy duty

you can't get heavy duty in North America until you get into he heavy duty pick up truck range, you can't get a heavy duty SUV in North America since they discontinued the Ford Excursion Diesel. Even Our full sized trucks are light duty compared to Land Cruisers. The 70 series are small mid sized pick ups, but are far more rugged than even our full size pick up trucks. These are hammers, not bloated land yachts.

Heck the excursion is a heavy duty suv and it's the only one to fit a lot of people inside. The hummer both the EV and the older ones are massive, even the one considered "midsized"

@@normanli7085 most modern SUVs seat at least five with many seating seven. Besides that the Hummer H1 was too large to be practical. It was designed as a military vehicle that was alter sold as a civilian model for novelty more than anything else. The U in SUV stands for utility, the hummer is almost to impractical to be of utility, besides they were stupid expensive.

The GX 460 is a light duty version of the LX which is a copy of the LC200/300 And the Prado/250 is the lighter version of the LC That's what Americans asked for when they weren't buying the LC200 because it's to expensive/ to heavy/ outdated They got the more cheaper lighter truck the prado with a modren presence

But I just heard that the GX and the LX is being built on the same platform? Doesn’t that imply the same capability? I just read comments on this channel telling me that the “specs” of the upcoming GX550 were comparable to the LX600 and the extra 30k for the LX was for bells and whistles? Meanwhile, Toyota categorizes the GX and the LX in completely different tiers, regardless of the platform they are using to build it. Unless it’s complete marketing hype (which I don’t believe it is) it’s obvious that Toyota engineers these vehicles differently and prices them accordingly.

They are the exact same TNGAF platform. LX600 gets more power and more lux. GX550 gets less power a rear locker and ekdss and fat tires in the Overtrail trim 😃

@@LexusGX460-OFF-ROAD Thanks for the detail - so, the vehicle with the rear locker, E-KDSS and off-road tires is light duty, while the car with more power and Lux is the ultimate 4wd vehicle, the station wagon. I really think this is a lost in translation situation and not sure if your video about it clarified anything.

@@reginaldalexander3336 I have no doubt of the LX600 and the 300 series Land Cruiser abilities - they are the top-line vehicles. As to the 250 series vehicles (GX and LC), remains to be seen.

@@CeeJay591 I have to agree I’m waiting for a couple years after any teething issues. Factory ground clearance compared to the 4Runner is kinda disappointing but there saying the 250 and gx550 has a bigger rear differential from lc300 vs the outgoing models.

ُHere in Saudi Arabia we have had a Toyota 4 WD model called the FJ since at least 10yrs.which looks very much like this new land cruiser.check the net for Toyota FJ you will be surprised

Out here in Africa it's just a Prado with series (90,120,150, . . .,250). It's considered feminine and not perceived to be a Landcruiser.

I'm not sure what toyota is doing here. Are they not trying to prop up the now the lexus gx 550. They initially said it would be more capable than lx 600. Are they trying to make it so lx is still king? Bad marketing move overall
