GREAT DIY walkthrough, when your fam brought you that Redbull you forgot to film the second rear intake manifold bolt on the driver side but other than that 10/10, I watched this video about 10 times to learn the process before I changed the plugs on my 09 Avalon limited, and it helped so much, I didn't even need to come back to this video or look it up. I am disabled with a broken back, but I still had to do this because I couldn't afford a 400 dollar trip to a tune-up place or a dealership... Took me about 4 and a half hours and a lot of pain sweat and grit, but I got it done thanks to you my man.. Thank you so much for posting this!

Your usual outstanding work Fix It Angel. I performed this task on my '06 Avalon in 2013. Yeah...it's work, but doable. Anyone who thinks they can do this w/o removing the large metal cowl up by windshield and bypassing the removal of the air surge tank(plenum) often times referred to as "intake manifold" are living in a dream world. What you see here is what needs to be removed. If you break the electrical spark plug connectors, secure them with self-fusing tape and zip ties. The toughest part is reinstalling the 2 plenum bracket bolts on the rear of the engine - passenger side. I used an open end 14mm and went about it a small twist at a time. They will eventually snug down. These days, there are ratcheting open-end wrenches that will make these 2 bolts easier to get back in. I didn't change my plugs 'til I had 163,000 miles on the engine. The plugs looked very good when I took them out, meaning this is a one-time job unless I plan on keeping the car past 325,000 mile. I doubt it.

The 2GR-FE engine is one of the best engines Toyota has ever made and is a workhorse in their lineup. It's one of the basic variants of a lot of Lexus models. If you want a Lexus but can't afford one, the Toyota Avalon, Toyota Venza or the Toyota Camry V6 could be some of your options. They share the same parts minus the luxury badging.

I have changed my spark plugs yesterday by watching this video. Very helpful 👍. But honestly I had situation like I had to tow my car to a mechanic who could put everything back 😂 for me. And those rear 3 plugs pain in the ass to removed and replaced. Took me almost 11 hours to Done that job(my every single bolts were rusted bad and one Alen bolt got stripped out so had to get extractor to get it out and even after extractor took me hours to took it off) but at the end I was able to finished the job but after I finished everything up I realized I didn't put one 12mm bolt and a hose clamp somewhere and I wouldn't try to put em back 😂. My car is running just fine with out any rattling or any issues so wouldn't worries about em. Very hard work not sure if it worth to change spark plugs in V6 engine by self. I'm not a car mechanic but I'm a tech in a injection molding company and I love these types of work but this one is not a easy work guys. I wonder why they use plastic when they know it's going to get really brittle from all the engine heat. It's like they purposely do it cause they know it will have to be replaced sooner or later. It's also crazy that you have to basically take half the car apart to get the last 3 spark plugs. That's why older cars are so much easier to work on. You must get so frustrated at times when you see what you have to do to complete a job. After all these electronics got put in cars it also made them harder to work on. Great job man.

Thanks for the video but I got stymied by the wiper arms. After 14 years they are married to those shafts ('till death do them part). I even bought a wiper arm puller but it wouldn't fit. No amount of penetrating oil, prying wuth pry bar would budge them. I cut the plastic loose and then removed wipers, motor and all as a unit. This allowed further examination of the tiny blind space at the back of the engine and led me to consider drilling three large holes in the dash. Deciding that I had done enough damage for one day, I ate crow and called my mechanic. BTW, did you know those little holes in front of the plenum are perfectly sized and positioned to swallow a 5mm hex tip? Also a round magnet sent down in a rescue attempt. They will both be riding around in the V of the engine for eternity. I did change the front coils and plugs. One of the boots came off the coil on a front one. I was able to retrieve it but if that happened in the rear- well that would be havoc! Seriously, if you dont have ALL the right tools- swivels, extensions, etc. Dont try this! Many possible calamities await. You could end up pulling the engine to get a broken spark plug out.

A Lot of vehicles are difficult to get to rear plugs. Even my old Pontiac 3800 was a knucklebuster and it wasn't even a COP style. Only needs done every 120K miles on Iridium plugs. Camry, Lexus 330/350 ES and RX are the same. Not difficult just time consuming. Take your time. If you have any mechanical ability you can do it. PB Blaster works well to. I replaced the plenum gaskets as well $17 off amazon. And don't use anything but Toyota/Denso plugs. Saving $5 for the misfires you will gain from Autolite trash plugs etc isn't worth it. They do have there head up the ass on the oil filter as well. lol God forbid they used a spin on. Enjoy that Toyota. Rare to have vehicles run 300K plus reliably. Nice video btw.

This makes you wanna trade the car in - great video. I will not be changing the rear - the front like making a peanut butter and jelly sandwich - the rear is like a thousand piece puzzle. No thanks, I’ll pay.

I remember the early 80s helping my buddy work on his girlfriend’s Chevy Monza with a V8. Now this car was a nightmare just to do a tune up. We had to loosened the motor mounts, raise the engine, just to get access to the rear spark plugs 🤬 Suggested to my buddy to keep a can opener in his tool box 🤣

noname Google that goes with any front wheel drive V6. Try changing the spark plugs for a FWD V8 like on a Cadillac

that is insane.... Toyota makes the Avalon that way ? We are in bad trouble.

Acura TL 2005 and 2008 you have to remove the whole intake plenum with throttle body. I own both I know I have done it. Just a pain.

I work on cars as a hobby and for a little bit of money compare to shop cost. I changed plugs on a 2011 ES350. I can tell you this, it was a pain in the azz.... lol. Now I have to change plugs on my RX350. FML.... Lol..

Great tutorial. But i did not have to remove intake box and manifold. Once viper motor and cover are off, you have enough room to get the coils and plugs. I did have to unscrew the metal bracket covering one coils, and hood shock observer on passenger side for better clearance.

Might be easier access to remove the interior dash panel and cut thru the engine firewall with a blow torch. Repair the torch holes with some Bondo.

Have to replace the valve cover gasket on the rear bank (Bank 1) as oil is leaking. Replaced the coil packs and sparkplugs on the rear bank and it wasn't hard, just lots of stuff to remove to get to them. The front bank (Bank 2) was easy.

You don’t necessarily have to remove the cover under the windshield wiper, but you do have to remove the Plenum. I would not leave it. If it is way over the miles for the plugs you can damage things. Find a cheap mechanic.

@@norakat Where can you find a mechanic to do this job cheap? This job will be expensive no matter who you go to.

@@kenyareed3051 - Not true. Where do you live? Like around here the Chinese guys seem pretty cheap but you also need to find people who know what theyre doing.
@kenyareed30514 жыл бұрын
@@norakat I live in Philadelphia,pa. And the minimal price for a mechanic to do that job is about $600.00. There are Chinese mechanics here in Philly that can hold there own against any car dealership mechanic, but you are going pay for their service. Not only that, these mechanics work on BMW, PORSCHE'S, AUDI'S, and MERCEDES BENZ. They could work on Toyota and Honda's with their eyes closed. The bottom line is, that these are very experienced mechanics and you're going to pay for their service.

You can change the back spark plugs with out removing the intake just remove the windshield wipers and plastic cover

hi, yes i have done it when i was at the dealership. i did this so all can see what i am doing. it's pretty hard to know how to replace the rear plugs without having good camera footage. so i had to take off the intake. everybody has their own way of doing a repair. this is my way and i know it's better than all the repairs here in YT. thank you for the comment.
