I have to say, I love wee cars, everyone talks about full cars all their passengers and suitcases etc, however some people only travel alone (mostly) or with only 1 person, don't have kids and don't want a big car to just nip to the shop. New drivers or older people who are not wanting large SUV's while gaining their drivers stripes or just nipping out a few times a week to local shops or appointments etc. There is a market for really good reliable small cars and sadly I think most brands are starting to forget that no everyone is a full blown family with 2.4 children. Great review 👏
@badbusdriver71602 жыл бұрын
You make it sound like you can't have a small car (smaller than a supermini) with enough space for adults in the back. Ignoring the fact that various Japanese kei cars have been doing this for many years, there is also the Suzuki Ignis. This has pretty much exactly the same length and wheelbase as the Aygo X but can genuinely accomodate four 6' adults. The boot is very generous (for a car of that size) as is, but on the four seat Ignis (base model gets a fixed three person bench), either or both of the rear seats can be slid forward by about 30cm. This is the reason, much as I like its looks, I'm not overly impressed by the Aygo X. I can't believe the same company which produced the masterclass of interior packaging that was the IQ decided that the cramped rear of this was acceptable. It is a shame because otherwise I'd very seriously consider one as our next car.

James I totally agree with you, I'm about to purchase the new aygo x exclusive I have had the early aygo since 2015 and was very happy with that. It drives both in town and motorway perfectly for myself. I see no reason to pay more for a car when most of the time it's only me in it, and most of my driving in it will be a 30min journey to work on a motorway and a roads. I will drive to see family a few hundred miles away but as that is not every week I can't see this aygo unable to make such a journey. Plus the price of fuel gives me an even bigger reason to drive it.
@nickjolly39842 жыл бұрын
Good review but I have to disagree with your comments about the engine. I have an Aygo X with the CVT gearbox and it's brilliant. Yes the 0 to 60 time isn't great but in the town it's very nippy. I do regular longer trips and the car is no noisier than my previous chr and the engine is full of character, bit like a jack russell 😂. All the comments about space are pointless, if you're someone who wants to put a bike in your car you won't be buying an Aygo X. The car is what it is and prospective buyers will look at it in the context of their usage. Oh and the economy is brilliant, mine is currently averaging 66mpg on the current tank of fuel and 56mpg since I've had it.
@carbuyer2 жыл бұрын
You are right that buyers will look at it in context, but that's why we compare it to the Kia Picanto and other rivals - that car has three rear seats and more space in the back. If you don't use the rear seats regularly, then the Aygo is fine!

As an alternative to a town electric car it certainly does make sense though. No range anxiety and you don't have to drive somewhere to charge it and wait. (Toyota is one of the few manufacturers who have already worked this out). And, the majority of them are not looking for weekends at the Nürburgring! Toyota, apparently, know more about their customers than reviewers who know nothing about them at all. Reviewers who also consider a car only worthy if it is an EV or goes like a rocket. I drove one yesterday. The Automatic. On a 90kph road it had no problem at all to get up to speed and even over take some lorries. Additionally, for the person who is making the decision it is a perfect car for her. She is a careful driver who has not interest in speed. At all. She is looking for a reliable, economical, small car. Which this is. If you want a Renault 5 Gordini, or Mini Metro Turbo look elsewhere.

Yes, the Aygo X might be best suited for an urban environment... But, it's not the best car FOR an urban environment... It still emits CO2 in to the environment where people are living / working / going to school etc etc If we're to get serious about cleaning up the air we breathe in the places we're most likely to breathe it in, then we simply have to ban ICE cars, vans, trucks and buses from our urban towns & cities and move towards all forms of emission-free mobility... be that cycling... E-bikes/scooters... EV cars / vans / trucks / buses. Yes, I completely understand that EVs are MUCH more costly to buy outright... but their generally better residual values make for much more comparable monthly leasing costs. For example, the Aygo X Edge Standard is the cheapest to lease at £182pm. The Fiat 500e Red costs over £9k more in list price, but has a leasing rate of just £274pm. However, an interesting, left-of-field EV model, again, absolutely ideal for urban commutes, is the Smart EQ ForFour Premium - costing over £5k more than the Aygo X, it comes in at only £237pm, so £55 per month / a "single-tank-of-petrol" per month more... for that you're getting an 82bhp motor, 0-62mph a whole 3 seconds quicker, an auto gearbox, auto-climate and heated front seats...!

But remember, not everyone can plug in. We're in a transitional phase, and for some, a car like the Aygo X will be perfect.

It's true that EVs are better for air quality but the infrastructure isn't there to support mass uptake, even assuming people could afford one, and fewer people in urban areas have the ability to charge at home. It's worth mentioning the Aygo X is ulez compliant.
@anthonyconnor16032 жыл бұрын
It may still emit CO2 but you have to remember ICE cars have become so much cleaner even in the last 5 years. Electric cars are NOT the solution for cleaning up the air, public transport and more walking and cycling lanes are the answer. Electric cars aren’t even good for the environment, Electric cars use Lithium-ion batteries which are much larger and require several different materials like lithium and cobalt to make. These materials require a lot of energy to extract and re purpose into lithium-ion batteries. Cobalt is considered the highest material supply chain risk for electric vehicles [EVs] in the short and medium term. In 2019, the production of lithium-ion batteries consumed 65% of the global production of lithium and cobalt. Producing electric car batteries create more greenhouse gas emissions and produces at least 70% more carbon emissions. A single electric car contains more cobalt than 1,000 smartphone batteries. The mining of lithium is not a green activity, when an electric car rolls of the production line, it has already been responsible for more than 25, 000 lbs. of CO2, the amount of making an ICE car, it is just 16,000 lbs. of CO2. I don’t know how anyone can say electric cars are good for the environment. In my opinion and I am entitled to my opinion, I think ICE cars are just as good if not better for the environment.
