Thanks for instruction. In my C-HR hybrid, the oil smells like exhaust fumes. Even after the oil exchange at the Dealership during the inspection after returning home (40 miles) there was a distinct smell of exhaust fumes. Is it normal? The car consumes fuel normally.
@EngineeredMojo Жыл бұрын
That's not normal, but during the oil change the dealership may have spilled overflow oil on the valve cover as a possibility. Once the engine heats up, it'd start to burn off the thin film of any oil. Other than that, if your fuel consumption is normal may be a small exhaust leak. Hope this leads you in a direction to find the cause of the smell!
@libglade3696 Жыл бұрын
@@EngineeredMojo I'm not sure if I expressed myself precisely but this smell is not outside the car but on the dipstick. After half a year, the intensity is at the same level.
@EngineeredMojo Жыл бұрын
@Lib Glade oh I understand now, that is unusual for sure. No real way for gas to mix into the oil in such a manner typically. I've only come across oil getting into the intake and combustion with the air/fuel mixture producing a blue/gray smoke from the tailpipe. If no smoke from tailpipe, I'd keep an eye on the oil level as well as fuel consumption
@libglade3696 Жыл бұрын
@@EngineeredMojo Some time ago, some users wrote to Toyota that they have gasoline in the oil and that their oil level increases by about 5 mm between inspections. Toyota even recorded a video on YT where they say that everything is fine and the level may even increase by 2.5 cm and everything will be OK. I thought I had the same as them but I don't have an oil level rise.

I have a 2018 chr. Question, my filter replacement is a paper type filter in the oil housing. Which is not common.... for me. Can I replace with a regular oil filter?
@EngineeredMojo2 жыл бұрын
Typically, you cannot switch between the two types given the way it the different types connect to the engine block. But a paper filter type is still a simple swap, just be sure to remember to change your O-ring as well!

@EngineeredMojo2 жыл бұрын
I wouldn't spend 300 on it. Unless you drive your vehicle off road within dirt roads, your engine bay won't even get that dirty over years of use. A hand wipe with a damp cloth you can do yourself very easily

Question, I got myself a 2018 Toyota CHR. What’s your oil change interval? I checked the owners manual and nothing shows. I went to Toyota and they told me every 10,000 miles. Personally, that seems like too much to me but are you following that interval?
@EngineeredMojo3 жыл бұрын
Yeah 10k miles is what I go by, with full synthetic motor oil it's a reasonable interval. Our CHR currently has 35k miles. After about 90k I'll prob start changing oil every 5k miles just to feel better about motor health. Don't know if it will prolong life, but hope so
@TJEpicMedia3 жыл бұрын
I do mines every 5000 miles. With full synthetic. Reason being is because the maintenance light keeps coming on after 4500, and tells you to get ready to do maintenance. But it also blocks my speedometer and everything else i use while driving.

Every 6 months or 5K miles. Whichever comes first if you want your engine to last longer

@EngineeredMojo3 жыл бұрын
For synthetic oil, that interval is probably fine. Toyota just wants you to come in for service every 5k miles for overall upkeep it seems to me since they change out parts every other oil change in their published maintenance schedule and cuts chances of them/driver missing their scheduled parts change and them collecting money haha

That's what the different color markers are when they're checking everything or doing the maintenance that's why you always see a blue or white or yellow and white then blue again and that makes me think the white is when they don't do anything they just mark it off because they seem to color prior to it

Im still confused though because now ive seen 2 tutorials both for 1.8 engines but one had a spin on filter like you, and one had a cartridge oil filter with a different filter housing. same engine, year etc. weird. now here is the best part, when i look up replacement parts based on model and engine, i get both types of filter. i guess i need to just get under the car and check myself
