To those that are here for the bulb change you just have to take off the first 3 clips he shows and pull the trunk linning back. Bulb change in less than 5 minutes.

Cool vid, happywrenching. A young lady at work was told by at least three people here that her left brake light ('13 Camry) was out, and Monday came in all boo-hoo'd that she got pulled over and was given a citation over the weekend. Like a dummy I said to get a bulb and I'd replace it. She replied she already got one. Uhh oh. Ok, I'll get a tool bag and replace it tomorrow. Crap, now I'm on the hook. Google-Fu to the rescue... and found your video. Really? One small screwdriver? I love working on Toyota's (usually). She watched me bingbingbing, pull up plastic thingy, bend over trunk liner, twist out, replace bulb, replace fasteners in about three minutes. Looking at me like I was oozing awesome-sauce. Alas, no snuggle time. But thanks anyway for the lunch she bought me!

For what it is worth, I was able to replace the driver-side tail-light (light, not just the bulbs) on my 2012 Camry without removing the bumper. To get the light to clear the bumper, I had to remove just the bumper screw that is closest to the light assembly (under the plastic cap) to give a little wiggle room right where it is needed. Getting the assembly out was harder... light tugging to point of breakage... than getting the new one in because of a clip on the bottom of the light. When putting the new light in, it only all fit in smoothly after I detached the clip (big plastic one) from the light and attached it to where it goes in the car. Then I slid the light back into the clip when installing it.

Is taking the rear bumper really necessary? I'm not seeing anything from the rear bumper that hinders the tail light assembly removal.
@ThePatriotsway4 жыл бұрын
Yep, you have to do it.....there is a racket beneath the light assy. that requires bumper removal. Bit ridiculous

thank you for the clear video again! my rear side marker light bulb is dead, do I have to remove the trunk lining piece to get to it? at 1:41, I saw you show the break light bulb...isn't the break light bulb and rear side marker light bulb is the same part # 7443? I am not sure
@GTAGoldSilver10 жыл бұрын
@ time 3:58 reverse bulb you said? Is that light bulb is same as #7443 part number? i think mine is dead and I thought it was the side marker light bulb...i am confused lol what is the dead light on my rear car is called so I can buy the parts to it thank you!
@happywrenching10 жыл бұрын
Here is the breakdown of the bulbs - reverse are #921, brake light bulb is #7443, turn signal is a #7440A , and side marker is #168. Side marker bulb is the smallest of the three (inside the main taillight) and in the video I call it a parking light bulb which is confusing and incorrect - my bad.

happywrenching Is the Brake light bulb the same bulb that is on when your headlights are on? or are there two separate bulbs?
@happywrenching10 жыл бұрын
adams1696 Yes, the brake light bulb - 7443, is a dual filament bulb. It's on (though not at full brightness) when the headlights are on and also on (at full brightness) when you step on the brakes.

Just replaced my rear passenger side tail light without removing the bumper. All you have to do is remove the bumper screw under the oblong cover so the you have enough give to pull the bumper back to remove and replace the tail light assembly.
@KJL007 жыл бұрын
I was not able to do that. I had to remove the bolts from the wheel-wells as well and unclip the bumper at the sides/back. Left all the bottom bolts in at the back. That was enough to get out the tail lights without too much hassle.

I went to Toyota to get my 2014 replaced and it was $149 for the part and $120 for the maintenance. Seems like an awful lot to replace a tail light. But I rather have a guarantee for work done on my car.
@Gajh20148 жыл бұрын
thanks for that information. did they have to take the whole bumper off?? shaking my head, if so!

Screw that. There is no way in hell I'm paying that much money to replace a light When I can Do it myself.... Toyota is Ridiculous
@cbijames76 жыл бұрын
The 2018 there's no way to get the bulbs out where are you have a cut out in the metal piece for the bulbs are at there's no cut out for the 18 looks like you had to take the whole rear light assembly out replace the bulbs looks like a pain in the ass
@BaoNguyen-qq3gu10 жыл бұрын
Can it be replaced without taking off the bumper? Minus the hook :/
@happywrenching10 жыл бұрын
Nope, to remove the taillight you have to also remove the rear bumper cover.
@tommy75099 жыл бұрын
happywrenching So what is purpose of the clip on bottom of the assembly? Seems to have no function other than to make you remove the bumper cover first.
@happywrenching9 жыл бұрын
Art Malone I believe it's to support that section of the bumper cover and prevent it from moving & rattling around.
@Gajh20145 жыл бұрын
come on you can just pull the bumper back a little after undoing the two big bolts.. and slide it out and the other one in.. what is this take the whole bumper crap thing all about.. you like taking bumpers off or something? I can assure you no one else here does that's for sure.
