Hey Bill. So grateful for your video. I changed the window regulator on my sister's 2001 Corolla this morning. Your instructions were perfect! I was able to do the whole job in less than an hour. I bought the Dorman brand from Parts Geek for about $53 plus tax. It fits her car just right and now the window works great. Now she doesn't have to drive around with the window closed in the heat of summer! Thank you!

Sparky. I did my testing with my cold cluster placed inside the refrigerator. Result: I could see same mileage from beginning of the year 114.376 plus 1 mile.... 114.377. i was able to take the picture I wanted before it disappeared but, it is useless because ... I was really expecting to see today's mileage to show to car technicians that were asking me what was the mileage of my car. In my second try, i took a pic of the mileage found in the first trip and also the second , leaving the first one in zero.... to test it tomorrow again and .... entertain myself with the cluster later when i finish with another situation. You just saved me over $500 on my 98 corolla on this repair with such a clear, detailed step-by-step and crisp instructions. One of the best instructional videos that I have seen in KZbin! Kudos to you :) I did everything like you have shown in the video, however after successful replacement of my corolla's window regulator and putting the door panel back on, I noticed the wiring harness keeps pushing out the window control unit out of the slot. I think the tabs that keep the window control might be broken, so the window control keeps popping up and never stays put. Any ideas how to secure it in place? BTW, I used zip ties on the wiring harness bundle inside the window control to try and push the wiring harness down, so it won't keep pushing the window control out, however it is just not working out. Now, I am just thinking of using a duct tape and secure the window control to the door panel, but it will look ugly..:) Thanks in advance!!

My 2000 Corolla drivers side window regulator needs to be replaced. My mechanic said it will cost $400. This video makes it look so simple to do myself and the part from Amazon is only $39.98. I've read all the comments from men who have successfully replaced it, but I'm a female and curious if any females have successfully accomplished this task. I just changed my inside door handle, but that was really simple.

Sparky. Thank you for your contact. I really have no knowledge to use my voltmeter except ... the 12 volts I expect to see from my battery! I laugh at myself for wanting to do things without first reading instructions. Regarding finding cracked soldering connections i guess it is easier.... because it is a visual thing that you can detect.... I am an elderly here that wishes to come back more intelligent in the next life.... i will see if I find some electrician that can check the cluster odometer /speedometer for power although at night all its lights are on, but during the day .... i do not remember now if some lights come on? The temperature does show up. the needle of the fuel still works. The stop pin of the speedometer at zero m/h I already broke it! :-) I have to glue it back on!

Well, bless you! I know it can be tough to keep the Corola running but it sounds like you have a really good attitude! Another idea would be to check a junk yard for the new parts that you need. They might even agree to install the part for a fee.

Yes, that's why I recommend the plastic upholstery kit so that the upholstery doesn't get damaged. Using screwdrivers to pop up the upholstery pieces is a bad idea. LOL!

Great in depth guide. I bought a motor to replace my rear passenger side regulator motor 3 or so years back, but got lazy and never installed it. My drivers side front window was acting up(when in the all the way down position didn't want to go back up once and a while), so I may install the rear one for practice since the right and left side motors are not interchangeable. Would also be a good test to see if the motor alone will fix it or if I should get the entire assembly next time. I've just been avoiding using the rear passenger side window, but if the front drivers side went out I'd fix immediately.

@@SparkyChannel I couldn't seem to find where to unattach the window; I even felt around with my hands and couldn't figure it out. Rear seems to be different than the front. The window still goes up and down, it just gets lazy towards the top and needs a several minute break to go up a bit more(repeat a few times) and then it's up all the way again. Oh well, guess I'll look into it another time.

So jokes on me. I got the motor replaced and got the regulator back in, but in the process I discovered one of the two plastic pieces that hold the window in had long ago broken and now I only have one of the two to reattach. It's also labor day; so the local pick a part is closed so I can't go over with my tools and grab another window that has both plastic attachments unbroken. Oh well, guess I'll have to finish it tomorrow, for now I have the window attached on the one side and I'll just keep it in the closed position. Thanks for the video guide. I guess it'll work alright with only one mount attached, but I need a few things from the pick a part anyways. A door panel would be nice since my drivers side one is falling apart, and a couple of other things. My rear passenger side has had the same issue for years, I just use it less so didn't care as much. But looking at the window I'm not sure how to get it out to then take the regulator out. It's just held in pretty securely by a rubber channel. Now my rear window is stuck down because I figured it would be simple and I'd fix it while I was at it........

Would have grabbed the whole window but mine is tinted and that one wasn't. Should have put some kind of adhesive on it but am hoping gravity and friction keeps it one well enough.

You may be able to manually operate the gears of the non-working regulator or you could try jiggling the window to see if it will go down a little. Also, use some silicon lube on the gears and see if the regulator will move the window a little.

It seems some replacements for the 98 Corolla regulator is slightly different than original. I found that removing the post screw from the original and screw it into the new regulator and getting a couple of bolts for the new regulator worked out ok.

Thank you very much for your video. I completed this job recently, with the help of your video, and the window regulator now works great. I recently ran into an issue where the window moves freely up and down, but seems to grab onto and folds down the wiper type seal on the interior bottom side of the window. Are there any adjustments that can be made to align the window centered in the path to prevent this? I'm afraid it's going to destroy the seal over time.

Sparky, I have been driving for 1/2 year now without odometer and without speedometer. One very cold day of this past winter I suddenly saw 114 376 miles (toyota corolla 1998 LE). I am planning to take off my instrument cluster and place it inside the refrigerator and find out if the cold temperature allows me to find out how many miles I have now.... I will let you know. :-)

@@SparkyChannel no, my roommate ended up moving it & fastening it in a hole that was free.. some part with the locking mechanism I believe lost it's bolt and got misaligned somehow. Might've gotten in an accident. He matched it how it was on the opposite door panel. It was so frustrating to me because I had already done this job on my older car (an 03 Honda Civic) and that went without a hitch. But anyways yeah that's the story thanks for reaching out I really appreciate it and hopefully somebody someday can be helped by this and saved some time in the future! Loosen the six screws first so you can move the regulator around and reach the two window screws
