In this detailed review of Toyota Corolla Altis 1.6 2020, we’ll take you for its POV Drive and share our experience with it. The new Corolla Altis 2020 was updated 3 years ago in Pakistan and it received some significant upgrades like:

In this detailed review, Shaheel and Ali would talk about its new features, practicality and overall driving experience. The new Corolla Altis 1.6 has a lot of improvements over the Pre-facelift version. In terms of Engine performance, Toyota Corolla Altis 2020 comes with a 1.6L Naturally Aspirated Petrol Engine, which produces about 120 HP. It is by far a very reliable engine with very few known issues.
This engine is linked to a 4-Speed Automatic transmission, marketed as Super ECT by Toyota. This transmission is carried forward from the previous generation of Corolla and is also offered in new Toyota Corolla GLI Automatic. The Fuel economy of Altis 1.6 is not impressive. This is primarily due to the conventional transmission. During our testing, Corolla Altis 1.6 returned 9-10 KM/L within City and 11-13 KM/L at Highway speeds. Moving on to its performance, we also did an acceleration test from 0-100 KM/H of Altis 1.6, and it did it in 11.5 Seconds which is 2 seconds slower than top of the line Altis Grande, which has a 1.8L Engine and a CVT-i Transmission.
Toyota Corolla Altis 1.6 comes with a Multi-Functional Steering wheel and a premium instrument cluster.It is also equipped with an Alpine branded infotainment system and has 6-Speakers (including 2 tweeters). It also has bigger wheels and side skirts just like Corolla Altis Grande 1.8. Thanks to the wider tyres, Corolla Altis 1.6 feels slightly more planted and well balanced at highway speeds. These tyres are from Yokohama and their size is 205/55/R16.

Once I was driving this car from abbotabad to Peshawar through motorway because I left home bit early so I had enough time to reach Peshawar so i tried to get maximum fuel average and it was giving me 19km/l throughout my journey. I would say it's amazing car for calm foot and cool head on shoulder.

I have Altis 2019 model, I am very much satisfied with its fuel average, as it gives me 17 per litre @ of speed 110 on motorway and 16 at a speed of 120. While in local minimum 10,all depends on driving habits.

Hi. In altis 1.6 manual online video is stopped as soon as car is put on driving mode. Only audio is available. But as soon as its parked there is is audio and video both available. Is it malfunctioning of car

I had the same issue with rear view mirror, but then I read user manual and found out mirror height is also adjustable but it takes a bit more force, u can use 2 hands to adjust the joint that sticks to the screen and then adjust mirror with one hand only adjust the joint behind the mirror.

Excellent review. However, there is an issue with some of the Altis 1.6' 1ZR-FE engines, and that is a defective VVTi actuator that causes a cold start rattle upon start-up. Some Grande 1.8L users have also reported this issue. Common problem with the ZR series engines. This problem may develop at any stage. My Altis 1.6L developed a cold start rattle before reaching the 30,000 kms mark. Unfortunately, the only fix for it is a replacement of the VVTi actuator. Using a thicker oil, such as a 5w50 or a 10w40 may dampen the sound but is not a fix and could degrade engine performance.

Hence, we only compared it to the car of its category. In terms of buying decision, we’ve mentioned in our review of BR-V that it’s a very practical utility vehicle. In my opinion, BR-V is targeted towards big families with constant need of using either 7 seats or carrying a lot of luggage. Otherwise, a sedan like Altis 1.6 would be suitable for anyone who travels alone or with 1 or 2 passengers.

CVT refers to Continuously Variable Transmission. It doesn’t have physical gears like in a conventional automatic transmission. In terms of practicality, CVT is more fuel efficient.
