Toyota Corolla E12 2004 brake caliper carrier seized pins problem and fix

Seized front brake caliper carrier pins problem and fix Toyota Corolla shown but very common to many type of cars.
Please bear in mind your safety.....use as I did proper axle stands and a good trolley jack placed on solid parts of the suspension to support the car.
the breaker bar is only used for undoing the wheel nuts and the carrier to hub bolts as they are tight...make sure everything is correctly tightened up when you finish....double check everything!
total cost was £75 for pair of discs, pads and carrier pin sets all via eBay.
Best advice is to replace these pins/gaiters/silicon grease before they get rusted in the pins are easy enough to swap out have a check of their condition when changing brake pads, they are cheap would save a lot of aggravation later

Same thing happened on my 04 tsport. Break seized and got dragged into caliper 🤦‍♀️ pins had already been cleaned up once. New caliper carrier had to be fitted as it bent. Plus new front discs, all at the side of the road... fun day that was lol

hah also have a 04 tsport and for me it was the right rear wheel

Had the exact same issue today one of the slider pins snapped when I tried free it up. I looked into caliper carriers and I've luckily found a used 275mm one which will hopefully get me going again with new pins and seals. I'm doing discs and pads along with renewing the brake pad anti rattle shims. Good video.

Thanks....We try to help! It really is important to clean grease or replace the sliding pins when pad changing, you got lucky finding a good second-hard unit I couldn't.....lots of swearing drilling out the old ones! Cheers...Trevor

Hopefully the unit I've ordered will sort me out! I spend four hours drilling into the old one and it's impossible the old slide pin is well and truly fused to the inside of the housing recess. The reason I found out there was an issue is the top anti rattle shim randomly snapped and caused a noise similar to a stone getting stuck between the disc rotor and the dust shield. Turns out one of the sliders was totally seized causing uneven pad wear triggering the rattle shim to snap over time due to stressing. I haven't even got round do doing the other side as I'm doing pads discs and new sliders all round so let's hope things go better from here. Hopefully the caliper carrier arrives soon! Regards.

It took me ages to drill out them without righting off the units...Mucho swearing! we noticed there was a problem when the brakes started going a bit springy/spongey..bleed em' etc but that wasn't it..... it really is one of these prevention is better than cure things I will always clean and grease or replace them at every pad change now!

@@jetblack11td I don't suppose you remember the part number when you ordered the replacement? I was looking at a TRW BDA1023 on the site autodoc which appears correct for my 2002 Corolla T-Sport. I'm wondering if they will send the 255 one cause like you I need the 275mm disc rotor version?

Are the guide pins for the front and rear different from each other? I need to buy them but I'm unsure if they are all the same or different?
