Thank you Dave! I hit a small animal the other day and have been struggling with this exact thing for a few days (the noise it makes is awful) my dad lives interstate and your video is the first one that popped up and you were the dad I needed when my dad couldn't be here haha!!

Watching your video made me realize that there are others out there with the same frustrations of trying to insert those damned clips and fasteners the way they should be. I cursed the darn thing out and just walked away, but I'll be back another day, and like you, will just improvise it to stay in place! I realized why I never wanted to be an auto mechanic, if I were, I'd be the most cussing mechanic the shop ever saw!!!!!
@DIYDaveOK2 жыл бұрын
LOL I definitely understand!! What gets me is those clips are so subtly different for no apparent reason, just this kind here and that kind there! Argh!!

I'm glad I'm not the only one who struggled with this. I used an after market liner that didn't quite line up so I had to drill some custom holes and some of the fasteners I used were different than what was originally in there.

It's so frustrating that a job like this can be as big or bigger a struggle than some "real" car break-fix projects *because* of three or four different and/or hard-to-find fasteners or clips that break easily or require four ballet moves to hold in place and get secured!!! So frustrating!! Thanks for watching!

I got behind that last screw by ripping the plastic out by hand lol. Made it a lot easier without the plastic there. Brute force for the win!

Right now I'm replacing my inner well on a 09 Venza and have the same problem with a special looking fastner and don't know how I'm going get it removed! Why do these companies do this instead of just putting the same fasteners all around instead of a special one that drives you nuts.
@nativearizona12 жыл бұрын
They should have a chart with the retainers and clips shown where to place it would make this work a lot easier with all the different fasteners!
@joesoika2628 Жыл бұрын
If you go to a Toyota dealership the parts guy can print out a detailed view of the inner liner and all the fasteners that you will need! I've do this with most things I replace on all my Toyota's so I don't get frustrated looking or breaking the fasteners. You have to think ahead so you don't blow a fuse! Ahahaha

I found a whole variety of clips, threaded fasteners, connectors and the like on Amazon. The typical box offers a variety that fit several manufacturers vehicles, but if you drill around a bit you can find Toyota-specific ones.

I got it from CarParts.com if memory serves but they had a terrible shipping screw up and ended up sending me THREE, so I have extra. If you need one and are sure that's the right year/model etc I would love to get rid of one.

You could help me a bit if you were able to include a link for the fastners. Or what to ask for specifically at Autozone. It is obviously all about the fastners and that is the hardest part to find information on cost and source. Thanks so much!

The fender liner clip p/n is 90467-07166 (that's the push pin version). You can get them in bulk from Amazon and a lot cheaper than AutoZone assuming they even have them.

Best way to remove and save the clips is to cut the liner so you can reach behind the clips.. they can only be removed without braking them from the back...

I knew this was gonna suck once i saw it was a 28 min video. i shake my head in disgust as we in the 21st century still have to spend an inordinate amount of time on a f'en fasteners. my 2005 Lexus IS250 took the cake though, 5 different size "trees" and these really stupid clips that cost 25 dollars holding the bumpers up. supposed to be "easy" for modifications. it wasnt.
@DIYDaveOK2 жыл бұрын
I finally gave up and bought a bunch of varying sizes of clips and snaps off Amazon. There's no rhyme or reason why they use this kind in one place but another five inches away. You get to a point where if it is holding the thing in place, that kinda has to be good enough.
@whateveritwasitis2 жыл бұрын
