@@bundysgarage Amazing channel, much appreciated for your efforts on the channel.. I have a 2010 but mine does not say vvt on that plastic guard... it just says something like "Dual somethin-somethin"... it's a 1.8L. I have this seemingly mystical "cold start noise" that the 2009-2013's supposedly suffer from. Are you familiar with it?.. Many say the starter is doing it... the bendix hitting the flywheel or something... I replaced starter motor and still have it. Some say it;s the "vvt" and off hand, I do not believe mine has vvt since it's just a regular 1.8L, 4cyl. basic model. I find it suspicious that no one knows anything for sure.. a solution. My Haynes has 2 options for fixing a "grinding noise on startup"... 1) replace starter, and 2) replace flywheel (since maybe damaged). thoughts? much love mate. (huge thanks and appreciation if you read that)

Thank you for this helpful video. I don't see a video in your list covering the oil change for this engine, so I'll share this here. When I did mine (2009 Pontiac Vibe) I discovered that not all filter housing removal tools are created equal. Mine was an extremely tight fit. So much so that when I warmed up the engine to drain the oil it caused the housing to expand so I had to give the tool a few taps with the head of my wrench to seat it properly. Comes the time after re-installation to get it off again and the darned thing is stuck on there! Several hours of anxiously waiting for things to cool down enabled me to remove it and restore my sanity. On a positive note: the job itself was easy.

I forgot to mention ! I left one spark plug in , while trying to install a new one ! I was getting frustrated at one point , then I realized I only had 3 old plugs ! Now it started getting dark with just my head lamp looked into the cylinder. Wow it's still in there the old one ! Got the last one installed down the road I went for a test drive ! I'm going to get better ! Your video really saved me BIG BUCKS. And they say mechanics charge a $ 100.00 per hour.

I think that magnet socket would really help I'm right in the middle of doing a cylinder compression test and I can't get my spark plugs out of my 2014 Corolla I don't know if my socket isn't deep enough or if they're just being stubborn and don't want to come out but I can't seem to get them out I feel like a magnet socket would help... But of course now that I have the car disassembled I don't have a ride to the auto parts store so like I said right in the middle of the job... Waiting on a ride now

Great job, precise and concise! One video suggested using compressed air to blow off this area BEFORE TAKING OUT THE PLUG ! Then he showed two bits of degree that could have been knocked onto the plug hole! I have never seen so much dirt and crap on an engine as was on mine.even a mouse nest so compressed air is the way to go,before I start. Thanks for your vid!

My daughter is bringing her ‘09 Corolla over this weekend for new plugs and tranny fluid, I’ve never done either but this plug video is easy enough for me to teach her. The fluid flush and replace is a little more involved so my neighbor a Toyota mechanic is willing to help with that 👍. I watched a video on the flushing process yesterday and was blown away at the amount of good fluid you have to waste to do a proper flush.

from nkg NGK spark plugs feature trivalent plating. This silver or chrome-colored finish on the threads is designed to provide corrosion resistance against moisture and chemicals. The coating also acts as a release agent during spark plug removal. NGK spark plugs are installed at the factory dry, without lubrication or anti-seize. Anti-seize can act as a lubricant, altering torque values up to 20 percent, increasing the risk of spark plug thread breakage and/or metal shell stretch. Thread breakage can sometimes involve removing the cylinder head for repair. Metal shell stretch changes the heat rating of the spark plug and can result in serious engine damage caused by pre-ignition. Do not use anti-seize or lubricant on NGK spark plugs. It is completely unnecessary and can be detrimental.

The MPG on my 2012 Corolla has been way below the figures assumed online. I’ve been getting 20 MPG in the city, and I got tested for a bad alternator at Autozone. There’s only 20,300 miles on my recently used purchased Corolla and it already needs an alternator replaced. Is this common for a bad alternator at this stage and while I need to replace the spark plug or coils at 20k miles? There’s also a slight cracking sound everytime I hit a bump no matter how small it is on the right side and the wheel doesn’t stay stable when hitting the bump at slow speeds either. The cracking noise also happens at very slow speeds, not sure what that could be?

Clean inside the throttle body and the throttle body plate . When stopped or idling the plate is opened a crack to allow enough air to keep the engine running. Carbon buildup around the edge of the plate will block air causing the idle to drop or cause the car to die out.

when I put my spark plugs in my 09 Sentra, I used the spark plug socket, but once the plug was lowered into the engine, I turned the socket to loosen the plug slowly and listened and felt for a click, then I started turning to tighten the plug (by hand of course), did that to make sure I didn't cross thread the plug, as I didn't have any hose to use, and that was my only car at the time and I was miles away from any parts stores.

You're like my wife - butter knife is the tool for opening the paint can, gardening, and much much more. I'm sure you have a flat head screwdriver that fits this role even better. I like your technique for getting the spark plug back down there smoothly. It's a detail a lot of youtubers are skipping over. I think it's 15 foot pounds torque if you're trying to this by feel. Years ago the spark plug boxes would describe something like a 1/4 or 1/2 turn after finger tight, so that might be what you're working from.

Do you need to replace the spark plugs if you're just replacing the coil packs? I got new spark plugs recently, and one of my ignition coils went back so that plug was replaced when that coil went bad. I wanted to go ahead and replace the other 3 myself so I don't have to pay someone to do it for me. I'm just not sure if I need to replace those other plugs while I do it.

Hello fellow car enthusiasts! I’m happy to be here with you all. I hope we can engage in a productive and beneficial conversation, as we dive right into the troubleshooting of a fuel economy issue... Getting right to it, I’m driving a 2014 Corolla S. With 80,000 miles on it. After much homework I’m coming to conclusions left and right of the 2014 Corolla averaging 40+MPG... I’m only averaging 28.5 MPG?! I’m in the med field, driving only at 3AM or graveyard hours alike.. I travel to and from work each day with no traffic, all freeway, normally 60-65MPH (I’ve lived in the fast lane for many years, that was long enough for me. Please don’t judge me for doing the speed limit! I travel in slow lane, hope that soothes troubled thoughts and wards off unneighborly comments and opinions) Strictly seeking friendly advice and input here. So what are some areas that could be cause for concern? 1) What do you know about the MAF sensor? 2) What do you know about diagnosing fuel trims? 3) What do you know about tire PSI and the amount of affect it has on MPG? What about A/C? 4) What do you know about the negative affect of misfires? 5) What is an upstream and downstream o2 sensor, does this vehicle have either or? 6) Can the o2 sensors affect mileage without throwing a code/MIL/CEL? 7) Any good spark plugs, is iridium plug really the best choice, why? 8) What is a good air filter? 9) Anything besides DENSO recommended for use on this vehicle? 10) Sick of questions and ready for answers? See the comment section, or please give us your input! Thank you for being here and thank you for making a difference, -DG

At 6:15, you add dielectric grease to "have a nice solid connection for electricity to go into." Dielectric grease is non-conductive. Why would you put that between two components that need a good electrical connection? Do you think it's conductive?
