My sister bought this car since 2012-2013 and she still have it but rarely driven cause of engine and gearbox. At first i thought this car was common outside my country (i live in brunei, its a small country) but since i check some video on yt, i realize that the curren is a rare car. Also my sister one is the curren xs 1995 with the 3sfe engine and automatic.

Might see if you can find a collector for it. A relatively low mileage 3sge curren is what a collector might look for.

@@Synaps4 the 3sge one is really hard to find, especially in Brunei cause of the total unit that have been imported to the country (less than 15-10 unit I think) but good thing my sister bought the car for $2.5k Brunei dollar (around $1.8k USD)

It's funny to hear these are a rarity, here in NZ, you can spot these pretty frequently, more so than a 6g celica. Unfortunately, they're usually in pretty bad shape as they're used as cheap daily drivers. I've always liked the front on these though, it looks super aggressive with the right body kit. Good vid!
@HobTecCars11 ай бұрын
Thanks for the lovely compliments. I lived in NZ for a few months and I daily I saw some lovely Jap Import daily drivers. In Ireland even a rough condition Curren would make an excellent sale price because of its rarity.

So basically, this could have been sold here in the United States as the Lexus version of the Toyota Celica. I wish they had actually done that. That would have been a very interesting luxury sports coupe.
@HobTecCars11 ай бұрын
That is an interesting idea! I think I would have preferred it to the vs the Toyota Camry. We didn't have the Camry as an offering in Ireland during the 1990s era. If the Curren was not discontinued from 1998 onwards in would have gotten the 3SGE BEAMs RedTop with 201hp. It would have been quite the car.

Always thought the front end of the Celica was pretty ugly, and I gotta say the Curren looks significantly better. I imagine plenty of people would be interested in it as simply a better looking alternative to the Celica.

Nice car! I wonder how hard and complicated for importing the car into Ireland from Japan. I heard VRT might be super expensive also hard to get the car insured? Another thing will if the parts be hard to find. It funny I always ended up want the car that is not usually on the road in Ireland.
@HobTecCars10 ай бұрын
The process is not that difficult. I've not done it myself yet, but I've had friends too it. There is 1 Toyota Curren for sale in Japan now with 51,000 miles and Grade 4/5. It is selling for €8174. The transport and insurance to bring it to Ireland would be about €2000 to €2500. The VRT is capped at €200 for 30 year old car with maybe €45 for VAT. If you VRT'd that car today you could be looking at 2k or 3k. So essentially. I'd wait until next year to bring one in. Finally, the 3SGE in the Curren is a common engine. You'd have no gassle for parts. (Not that it'd let you down anyways) Since the Curren is essentially a Celica, there are UK specialists supplying brand new Celica brakes, suspensions, etc. So essentially you'd be covered :)

@waffler2222 ай бұрын
@@HobTecCars Its definitely a thing to get used to but its not so bad actually. After a few days it feels rather natural, but, there's a few things that will always get me and I'm sure there's some people here that might agree. 1: The turn signal lever and wiper lever are swapped around so when I hop between my JDM and USA cars I keep flipping the wrong things. 2: Overtaking cars is harder cause you can't really see what's coming. 3: Drive-throughs are a bit annoying to go through without a passenger. You either have someone with you, lean across your car or drive in reverse.
