I was looking for 4x4 automatic. And took test ride for both along with Gloster. I went with Fortuner. Reasons - Fortuner lacks creature comforts but has proven reliability. - Fortuner after sales service network and cost. - Meridian is 5 seater only with a bigger boot ( 2 seats cant really be used), Fortuner rear seats can be used with middle row adjustment. - Also, Fortuner's resale value. Meridian missed its place by pricing, if it would have priced itself 4 lakhs above compass then Gap between its cost and Fortuner would have made it value for money.

For your kind information Mahindra engine is reliable but same not goes for its electrical and mechanical parts. Mahindra always has a bad name for its mechanical and electrical part failures. Coming to taxes, there are different tax slabs for different length vehicle, and different cc vehicles.

Both of them are better in his sides.......... 1) fortuner for reliable ( as per the review i have watched and what i was realised ) you could see the land cruiser has the better example, in second hand market 10 year old cruiser sale in a very hike prices. That is because extreme reliable. Jeep is best for macho looks, it had the own legacy all our the world. The amount of features they provides, classy interior, luxury feel, performance oriented engine. Unmatchable road presence. Those are things best in jeep. Meanwhile both of them are equal partners in prices 😂😂
