I love that ND3 you got. Super fun daily and so much potential for track fun. And you got the best color. I don’t trust the reliability of the BRZ/86. I spun a bearing on an FRS and that made me pretty sour. The new engines seem to have oiling issues as well. Maybe you get lucky and never have an issue. But I think you’re rolling the dice if you plan to drive hard on the track or in the canyons. A young enthusiast who doesn’t have a ton of money for repairs might be better off with something more reliable. ND is the way.

for those with money, a new oil pan is about to be produced soon.

In my experience, the GR86/BRZ have been super reliable. The oiling is a particular point of concern, especially since Subaru flat 4’s use a wet sump unlike Porsche’s integrated dry sump. However, using an appropriate viscosity of oil and overfilling has worked for MOST people. Street driving I just use 0w20 and 1 qt overfill. For track driving, using 5w20 or 5w30 and overfilling by 1qt-1.5qt has been pretty effective from people I know. I always pop the hood and check the fluids (oil and coolant) every week or so to ensure that everything is normal. Everyone i’ve ever talked to that had spun bearings on their FRS/86/BRZ had a history of suboptimal maintenance on their car. They either ran too thin of an oil viscosity with no oil cooler and all their oil burned up during vigorous usage. Or they drove the car for 7k+ miles between oil changes and never checked the levels. Or there was some other mistake (loose/tight drain plug and leaking oil, incorrectly sealed oil pan, etc) that caused them to unknowingly lose oil. Sorry for the bad experience with the FRS, I was already aware of these issues when I bought a gen 2 BRZ so I have always been hypervigilant about the fluids on this car. This is also why I always recommend people buy these new and not used from a random place. I don’t know how many people know to be prompt with the fluid changes, so you can’t trust it.

What do you think is the next incremental increase in car from a gr86/BRZ? The next step up that is the the same or very similar philosophy of car?

would you recommend the gr86 or the miata for learning rwd dynamics? I come from a civic si and i want to be able to pick a car that’ll help me understand the differences in power trains.

BRZ would be better than GR86 due to throttle mapping. Jubal did mention in the video that limit handling is easier in GR86 (which applies to BRZ as well). I was in the same shoes and got BRZ, have 12 track days on it till now plus multiple autocross and car control clinics. I am trying drift school next, which is easier on BRZ as well.

Had a 2023 BRZ that was short lived as well. Great entry level driver’s car!

Why did you replace it? Amazing car imo
@gend214 күн бұрын
@@Gurka84 I replaced it with 2024 CE GR Corolla. The GRC offered a better use case for me personally. But I did enjoy the BRZ a lot though.

I replaced mine with a Emira. Was a great daily for me while I had it.

Entry level drivers car is a misnomer. The car punches well above its weight and most 86 drivers I meet, are way more skilled than ppl in faster cars.
@strmshadow84112 күн бұрын
@@sanzserif Yeah, but it being a cheap low power platform that people can 'cut' their teeth on before or if moving up to something with more power is what makes it an entry level drivers car.
