Got to know two of the better drivers for my area, ride with each a few times. Same as this ND and 2nd Gen GT86 and what really stood out for me was how much smoother and less work the Miata was to get to same times, the GT86 meanwhile seemed to require a lot more work but it was the kind of work i'd say is more fun subjectively at the limit trying to go as quick as possible if you aren't of the mindset a bit of sliding and correction is a bad thing. Two really distinct flavors riding in those cars, both were near stock with coil overs and happened to be very very similar in rates they chose (something like 300lb F 220-240lb R) and Semi-slick tires. I'd go for the GT86 but if i liked more relaxed style, calm and precise, or one was more nervous person but one who still craved this hobby then the Miata would make more sense. Or another way of putting it is the Miata inspires confidence almost always, where the GT86 is more a car for someone who enjoys testing their confidence. You cannot go wrong either way. As someone obsessed with everything 60s to early 90s Automotive, I'm just glad cars like this still exist and not just that but you get the choice of distinctive flavors as well 😋

Driven a GT86 and own an ND2. The GT86 feels more "insulated" from the road and a bit more composed, while the ND2 is pure driving. The GT86 leans a bit more towards comfort.

These tracks have too many long straights. In order to truly battle a mx5 and a 86, any straight shouldnt be longer than 1/8mile. The mx5 and 86 wasnt built for straight line racing. It was built for handling and cornering
@Alek1 Жыл бұрын
Def. Braking duel makes it fun tho!
@RbNetEngr Жыл бұрын
Which track is this? It looks like a GREAT track layout. I’m not sure why both drivers are sawing at the steering wheel in the turns (the MX5 driver does it more than the GT86 driver does). I find it hard to believe that they are at the limits of front end grip when this is happening, because some of the turn exit speeds when they are doing it look to be very fairly slow speeds.
@Alek1 Жыл бұрын
The GT86 driver (myself) do it mostly because there is changes in the cornering arc occuring when there's throttle input changes. Odd, right? this happens particularly when switching to a clutch-based diff (as it is here, 1.5way Cusco diff). It's a torque steer, but in the case of RWD cars. There's less of this issue when driving an open-diff car.

I think it is the 2.0 with 160hp or 184hp butt i am not shure, if it is the 2.0 i think the rear wing is good for down force butt bad for speed. The GT 86 is more heavy, butt is power is 200hp, if it was the 1.5 i think the difference in speed is much more a difference.
@dynastyp Жыл бұрын
@@andyminner8379Yes 200hp but heavier plus it has 265 heavy width tyres on it wich should be slowing down a tad more... This IS clearly a 160hp ND1 stock with a muffler at most,you can feel how the power is falling back over 6000 rpm and he's shifting under 7000rpm all time... ND2 performance is on s2000 league.
