I installed new brake pads for the first time - I was concerned because they rubbed even when not pressing the brake pedal. But apparently it will stop rubbing after they are broken in. I only did my fronts but I'm going to do my rears, install new brake lines, replace brake fluid with motul rbf 600, and front and back grease the caliper pins to ensure complete release

Seeing a lot of misinformed comments here, the problem with the 135c oil temp is the OIL PRESSURE, yes the oil itself can handle running that hot but at that temp your oil pressure is significantly lower than what’s needed to keep the engine properly lubricated and you start to skim bearings.

Brake cooling ducts of a Porsche GT3 can be fitted to the wishbones if not already done. I don't drive as agressive as Misha but did 6 laps in a row last year with a first gen BRZ and different pads/rotors. Oil temp got a bit high at 135°C, would upgrade the cooler and I hope a baffle plate is installed. My GT86 specialist recommends 5W50 on track. Coolant temp seems to be running away as well, 108°C is a bit much compared to stock 88°C imho.

@@JPTinioMedia oh know, i had a 2022 GR86 and have been through all of this. There’s a channel (900BRZ) and he’s done a tome of instrumented, measured testing it’s been proven not as the root cause of the oiling issues. It’s moreso the pan, baffling, and other issues that reside within the block. The silicone/rtv issue is a problem, but it’s not the main problem.

@@DillonShelburn Yep, in a race format I would not let oil go over 115 continuous and maybe a peak at 120c for a short amount of time. Oil pressure really dips after 110c. For example Motul 8100 x-cess 5w40 @ 100C has a viscosity of 14.2 mm²/s. If you have 50 psi of oil pressure @ 100c @ 120C oil pressure is approx. 29psi if viscosity is 8.32 mm²/s using the Walther formula. I dont even want to know how low it is at 135C

Great lap ,these cars can be a lot of fun.About the brakes my 2018 civic has the same weight ,same size discs and a single piston caliper with about the same brake pad size. They however are 25mm thick stock where as the gr86 are 24mm. I think the biggest culprit is that the discs can't get rid of the heat fast enough .294x24mm with a double piston caliper vs the BBK which is at least 330x28mm. I think a 300x28mm disc with internal pillar vanes would work with the stock calipers without overheating.

A friend of mine has a tubocharged BRZ and though he went with a smaller turbo and is running something around 1 Bar for 290hp, I was surprised how responsive and almost linear the throttle and accelleratio was at low rpms before the boost came in. Though I was only passenger it felt much more useful for racing than e.g. my Focus ST with that comically small turbo providing peak pressure at 3.2k rmps with a conservative tune.

Yeah, the GR86 was mindblowingly fast in the straights but on braking I had to lift off a lot behind Misha. But hey, GT4 VS GR86, kind of normal the chassis of the GT4 is going to be faster, but that GR86 was very impressive, it was fun !

He pushed it to it's limits, I was afraid the brakes were going to fail. The Brembos would be a good addition to that car as well as track wheel and tire set up.

It’s a crime that Toyota never made a turbo version of that car from the factory like the Civic Type R but the GT86 equivalent. They missed out on such an amazing opportunity.

Wow that really changed my mind on spending big money on an expensive track weapon. This was miraculous to watch. This car looked like a hoot to drive. 28k with a 5-7k turbo kit for this much fun to keep up with a GT4 which is 2-3x the price is wild
