So many cool older Toyota nameplates. Almost every vehicle today seems to be a CUV or truck- literally 90%. It's not much fun when you love cars. Agree with you- hopefully Toyota can bring back some fun!

Bring back the Previa! It had great cargo capacity and you could remove the middle or bench seat and fold the back bench seats( split) against the windows. We haulded 4 kids and luggage and building supplies in that van!Loved it!

The Tercel Wagon was called the Sprinter Carib as well. I believe the 1st gen was available in the US. In JPN we got it till 2000 or so (e110 series Corolla/Sprinter). The souped up variant of the Caldina had the power and drive train from the Celica GT4 of the period

-while the Cami name died, its form lived on as the Daihatsu Terios till today, and it even further split into two forms: a transverse FWD/AWD compact SUV and a longitudinal RWD compact minivan. -The Estima model lived on till oct 2019 when its sales was outnumbered about 4:1 by the bigger n more expensive (hence, better margin) Alphard/Vellfire. And only the first gen had the midmounted engine RWD/AWD setup, coz the subsequent 2 gens from 2000 onwards was ur standard transverse FWD/AWD u see in the Sienna. Malaysia here btw, and we have the 2012 facelift version at home. 160hp from a 2.4L 2AZ block in a 3800lb makes the van pretty anaemic, but it gets the job done. ofcourse, like its American cousin, the Sienna, it also had the V6 AWD option. very rare, though... The 2000s and 2010s were challenging times for toyota tbh... The fallout of the japan bubble burst was in full swing (unemployment, economic stagnation, suicide spikes...) , and the late2000s saw the global financial crisis unfold, and the Tohoku earthquake and tsunami of 2011 was the icing on the cake. Toyota (and other japanese automakers tbh) effectively had their hands tied. They couldnt afford to go crazy anymore with what they were making n selling. The things they built HAD to sell. no more funky coupes, spacevans, or turbocharged family compact wagons. Which means, The LFA being released back in those days was honestly nothing short of a miracle. Akio Toyoda made SURE that masterpiece went into production.

I've loved the Origin for years. I don't know what it is exactly but I just find it cool is a nerdy way Toyota currently uses the Allion name for the Corolla in China, and it's a portmanteau of "Asian Lion"

The Premio is the replacement for the Corona. At first it was a variant of the Corona called the Corona Premio and later just called the Premio. The Allion is the replacement for the Carina. Allion was the typical Japanification of the words All In One as it was supposed to be an all rounder that was youthful. Allion and Premio are sister cars. The cars have nothing to do with the Corolla. What happened was we in Japan got the Corolla Axio which was a 5 number car (narrow bodied up to 1600cc, so a bit smaller than export Corolla models). The Allion/Premio were 3 number cars. When the current E210 series Corolla was introduced it was a 3 number cars. Since the Premio/Allion were 17 year old models based on even older engine they scrapped the model as the e210 Corolla filled that market segment. We now have 2 Corollas. The narrow node E160 series Corolla Axio (toyota wanted to cancel but haven't as it is the only 5 number sedan/wagon in JPN) and the E210 series normal Corolla.

Apparently you’re too young to know… Paseo was an econobox shaped like a sport coupe. No… as in ZERO… excitement to hear of a potential resurgence. It didn’t drive well, it was under powered… basically a renamed Tercel coupe with more aggressive styling…and after the AL21 gen the Tercel went backwards and lost the independent rear suspension on the L40/L50 (AL25 is the 4WD variant you showed… also down on power but in the 80s this was awesome).

It has to have a limit on how far retro design a car manufacturer can go or they alienate their potential buyers… 400Z Nissan was based on 240Z Fairlady but hardcore 240Z are in their 70’s and are in nursing homes…😂…Nissan 300ZX should be a target that Nissan should focus on…plus these are generations who have got income mid-life crisis.

This is probably a Japanese business practice to retain copyright for the names. Old school Nintendo fan & them renewing intellectual property copyrights in the 2000s was always big news, but nothing ever materialized and games media learned not to pay attention to license renewal news. Don't get your hopes up. Nothing to see here, move along.
@showmemorefunthings920817 күн бұрын
This looks like a blanket/bulk renewal to keep competitors from getting the name.

It's so Toyota doesn't lose those trademarks, even if they aren't being revived. They're Toyota trademarks, so fine, but some would probably agree that there's less point in reviving a nameplate if the new version shares little to nothing with the original. Mitsubishi Eclipse on one hand; sad, BMW Supra (made in Austria on the BMW Z4 assembly line) on the other; not the most egregious.
@ttttunos16 күн бұрын
