In this video I replace the alternator in my 200 Series Toyota Landcruiser. I have 200,000km on my Toyota Landcruiser 200 series and I am departing for an extended trip shortly. The Toyota 200 Series alternator placement is in a terrible spot, about as low down as it could be mounted. Not only does this make it difficult to get at, but abrasive liquids like mud can easily get into the alternator internals and chew the brushes out. When that happens, your system stops charging, and warning lights on your dash appear. From there you either have to replace the brushes, or the entire alternator. I am replacing my alternator with a brushless unit (rapidpower.com.au). Although more expensive than a traditional brushed alternator, it is not sustainable to internal damage like the brushed models are. It should outlive the life of the vehicle and I will never have to change out brushes at the side of a remote track somewhere.
This video is part of my LC200 maintenance playlists. You can find all sorts of Landcruiser 200 related maintenance items there.
