Great informative video. Always entertaining. I didn't see the red coming. But prime for weathering. I have used the damp 'bloom' to my advantage before for that faded look. I would like to think there is a way of adding a front metal bumper by going under & up the front of the plastic one. Although the run in the snow footage was short, it looked like quality over quantity. Very picturesque. Good luck with the final touches.

Thanks! The red was kind of a surprise to me, too 🤣 I was planning on a grey, but when it came to it I just thought it was too dull - and I had this red, which is an actual Toyota colour, and thought, why not?! I hadn't done a bright colour before this, really. Good point about the bumper - maybe there's a way. And yeah, I was really pleased with that shot - it really is a beautiful spot - but it was literally all I got! I've done a proper run since though, and the snow stuck around for that too, so it kind of worked out. And it saved everyone from the shortest run video ever...

Great update video Steve. LC80 looks fantastic. I like the faded paint idea. Can't wait to see how the final looks, but if your like me, it will never be "done". Although I think your last "project" you will be able to polish off fairly quickly, LOL.

Thanks! It's going to be interesting trying to weather such bright paint... and yes, you're right, they're never really 'done' are they? All part of the fun! I did indeed polish off that project pretty fast, though I've since started another, and another... ☕️👍

Great work, Steve! Looks blooming (!!!!) smashing! Love the hidden cannon, a very cool touch. I made the same mistake and my new mantra is "never spray in the rain" :-/ The short run clip looked awesome, what a pity about the failure - what went wrong? Anyway, after seeing this my Range Rover looks far too shiny - but I'll run it for a bit and see how scratched up it gets. Oh yeah, as for the next project, the answer is definitely "more coffee" :)

Ah ha, indeed! I'd got used to spraying solvent basecoat, which doesn't care about humidity, and found out the hard way that the stuff in cans does... oh well, could be worse, and it's a good reason to try the heavy weathering anyway. That was the first failure the SCX10.2 has had, and even then it was just a loose bolt! Basically the driveshaft tubes are plastic and key onto metal ends, and are held together by a bolt from inside the tube into the metal. It backed out, then the torque just twisted the plastic part right off its mount. I put it back but it happened again almost instantly. As luck would have it I didn't even lose the bolt as it was trapped, but I could get to the pin to remove the shaft! Quick fix once home... BTW: did you get my message with the pic of the interior?

Mate it looks good. I like it. The paint issue is a perfect time to weather it to death. Ak paints use it as a test bed. Reckon it would look brilliant. Especially as your other rigs are pretty clean. I love a cable tie. I do take out most of my allen drivers. Wheel hex wrench and snips. Its a pain but we have also been a long way from the car and stuff has gone ping. So handy to have the tools with you. The body shell was a bargain. I like the gearbox. I still have the stock gearbox in my builders kit and it is a right pain due to the size. Can't wait to see the run video. Latex gloves 😬💪 bend over captain 🤣 T

LOL. Yeah, I take a few hex keys along, but should really start packing a more meaningful tool kit. And I might try some AK paints - I nearly got some after watching your vid on them, but got something else (Allejo or similar?) from a local hobby shop. They're good, but maybe AK is better! Certainly the Mammoth looks brilliant with them. I really like this gearbox - early days yet, but if it lasts okay, I'd totally recommend it. Lovely ratios too, and looks great. 👍

It's supposed to be 1/10th, but it's never that accurate... mind you, the actual Land Cruiser is pretty big, so you never know. This is a 313mm wheelbase, so the regular Axial '1/10th' crawler size chassis.

Wouldn't tyre weights work well and look better
@rccrawlersmid-wales6453 жыл бұрын
The imbalance was in the body (the sprung weight), so adding mass to the tyres (unsprung weight) wouldn't actually affect it. These big chunks of metal don't look great, it's true, but they're hidden away when I'm driving, so I'm okay with it! 👍
