Old-fashioned, Overpriced and Totally Brilliant | RC4WD TF2

I treated the TF2 to a bit of love recently - it deserved it. Firstly I stripped the axles, replaced every bearing and added fresh grease. Then I fitted the 1.55 alloy beadlocks I got for it some time back (no-name eBay specials, but very nice) and some new Proline Swampers. These are a bit taller than anything it's had before and the front arches needed trimming... nervewracking, that was, but I've tried to keep it subtle!
I also removed the interior and did a bit of light weathering, chopped the driver some more to lower him a bit, and went round all the scratches with rust-effect paint to hopefully make them look a bit more natural.
Next thing is it needs a transmission overhaul (I'm sure it's noiser than it used to be) and possibly a change of grease - I've been using white marine grease for ages, but I'm wondering if a much thicker, stickier one would do the job better? Sometimes I think the marine grease is actually trapping water in little pockets.
Certainly from the noise there's a part-seized bearing in their somewhere that's spinning its outer shell at times, and I'm really hoping it's not one of the new ones already...

The whole sequence from 3:28 up to about 3:55 looks 100% real. The camera angle, speed of the truck, the surroundings, aces again. I really like the front brush guard. It's making me rethink the front end of mine. I could use a revamp. I finally got an interior and need to get cracking on painting and such. As always, another top notch video. Loved the shot through the thin ice covered water. That really made my day. Everything is frozen solid here for the time being. 🍻

We've had a couple of cold snaps but it's currently fairly mild again here, thank god - our road turns to ice as soon as it drops below zero! I particularly like the push bar myself (I always planned to fit it) as I wanted a fairly stock look. It's a CC Hand one as far as I remember, and really nicely made.

Fantastic, Steve! Love the new wheels and tyres, glad she's getting some overdue TLC! The work on the weathering has definitely paid off. I enjoyed the different levels of light in this video, the darker scenes looked very moody with the headlights blaring, your camera does a great job in those conditions. And so does the cameraman! Thanks! I've actually had a few camera issues lately - firstly with it just refusing to focus, and then with it dropping frames and going all stuttery. I've had to ditch quite a lot of footage because of it... I'm hoping it's because of the cold and/or a memory card issue, because there's not much else I can do about it! I thought there might be new firmware I could try, but Panasonic makes that a nightmare; as far as I can tell, there's nothing beyond V1.0, and I'm not scrolling through 500,000 results on their useless site search to check any further...

@@rccrawlersmid-wales645 It could also have been the cold affecting the camera's battery. I had a Sony camcorder which played up in cold conditions a few years ago.

Yeah, me too. You should have heard the robotic farting noises of the bearing spinning in its pocket... I had to cut those out! I'm sure it used to be quieter overall though. I'll overhaul the transmission soon.

Great video mate . That’s the thing with pro line crawler tires . I had hyrax tires and they were a bigger diameter so fitted about one of my trucks comfortable. They are good though . Truck looks ace 👍

Thanks! I knew they were a bit taller when I got them, though I was hoping to get away without trimming - I did the minimum possible. They still rub a bit at the front at the extremes, but it's fine. They still look a bit big to me at times, but I think I like them! 😎👍

Your location is quite different than mine we are mostly desert and low rocky mountains here in So.California USA.. I agree that TF2's are over priced but they are COOL, love mine (2).
