Go for the face lift , has the 6 speed LSD , post cat mod up grade , and tuned slightly better. Keep the off set wheel sizes for better anti longitudinal rotation. Keep the original springs for the British roads. Expect to replace the soft top if its not already done. Treat ot to a new ICE and door speakers. If you have storage a secondhand hard top is a nice option. Keep the tyres top noch and the same on each corner . Run 97 oct fuel and premium oil.

Really enjoyed your review! I have a 2003 Roadster now for 6 months, I have had the head lights polished which has improved them by 90% but yours have convinced me I need new ones! Brake cable is the next expensive project! Thanks again for the review.

@@kila_whaleit's looking so smart. Looking to get one. That colour is definitely the one to get I think. And they are very accessible price wise . I Iike the small spoiler on the back also. It definitely is in keeping with the lines. Nice

@@JCisJD thanks mate, best colour imho. I reckon price will go up in future, already a lot more expensive in US.

KILA WHALE the big successful WWE trader guy drives a little economy car 🤣 HAHA, just kidding. My favorite MR2 was the 1995 turbo. Surprisingly, they barely sold this generation MR2 in the united states. You never see them here. I think the Miata took a lot of the MR2's customers. These were basically go carts with nice interiors. Super fun to drive, and has the build quality to out live the owner. The newer Miata hardtop roadster is 🔥. These cars also suffered from clear coat failure, keep it waxed or sealed . Looking good 👍🏼Time to get the prop firm payout and get the Porsche Cayman. 😭

@@joefarries yeh MR2 2nd Gen and Spyder are much pricier in US than here in UK. I'd love to own a Lotus Elise one day, just a little man and his little dream ha.

@@kila_whale XD mate, you gotta drive a Cayman S before making any decisions. I see a lot of people like the Elise until they sit in it. It aint getting easier at our age. THE TOP STEP CHECK BETTER CLEAR TOO.

Hi mate, what’s the road noise like with the soft top? At higher speeds and lower speeds and is it fine during winter? Currently debating on whether a hard top is necessary or if a soft top will suffice.
@kila_whale2 ай бұрын
@@abeangeorge2029 Hiya mate, mines the face-lift version so comes in 6 gear, on motorways that makes a huge difference. I've also driven on motorways with the roof down and didn't find it loud except for the wind bashing on my ears so I wear ear defenders now. Your best bet would be go for a test drive and see how you find it, I never bothered with hard top as it defeats the purpose of convertible, unless I'm doing track days, definitely a great addition because it stiffen up the chassis with added protection, which is why MR2 Champion has everyone with hard tops.

What are the costs like maintaining and keeping one of these? I’m looking at getting my hands on one but not sure I want to pull the trigger before I know I can comfortably afford looking after it for a few years

They are bullet proof (unless it's a large calibre machine gun). I've had mine for 24 years and will never get rid of it. Mid engined means it always looks exotic, especially when lowered. I've had women literally throw themselves at my car because it's so cool, though that may be because I inadvertently mounted the pavement. Everytime I fill up on fuel someone comes over and asks me what it is. I tell them it's a car and that they're idiots for having to actually ask. I've been punched int he face three times in the last six months because of this. Get one and realise that you are, like me, God.

@@jackcampbell6802 Very low, at least in the UK. I also get over 35 mpg on the motorway because it is the facelift version which has the 6th gear. The handbrake cable replacing may cost you a little during MOT in UK, unless you can do it yourself. I'd highly recommend to do a dip stick check on weekly basic and keep it topped up. Parts and services are very cheap.

@@kila_whale how about insurance, normal quotes are very reasonable at about £500 but as soon as there are any declared modifications it jumps to thousands, would someone like Adrian Flux who specialise in modified cars be better to go with? Don’t think me being 21 helps so might make it difficult to find something that’s not extortionate!

Very low. Mine has 170K miles and all I've had to do in 5 years aside from oil changes was replace the clutch and struts (both original from 2003).
