The plan was simple, connect the last few coolant hoses, and fill the cooling system. What could go wrong?

We here in America call them hose clamps or worm clamps. But jubilee clips sounds so much better, like most things British. It sounds fancier than here in ‘’Murcia!
@Oblithian3 жыл бұрын
Yeah... definitely not what we call them in the colonies.

Jubilee clip is like Biro or Hoover - a manufacturer name that has become synonymous with the item. The trademark Jubilee goes back to 1921 when the worm drive hose clip was invented and patented by Commander Lumley Robinson. Lumley had spent time in the British Navy and during his time there, realised a new way to attach a hose to a pipe was needed. Lumley founded the business L Robinson and Company (parent company of Jubilee Clips Ltd), which still operates today from a base in Gillingham, Kent. As Jubilee is a UK company, it would explain why it causes so much confusion with our friends across the pond.

Interesting, we had no idea, thanks 😊 technically we’re not using Jubilee clips then, they’re Mikalor, which I think is Spanish

good move to replace the radiator, if you don't you'll be doing it shortly after you start driving it anyway. re: jubilee clips, yea, heard that term used in the states a few times, but mainly it's hose clamps. keep up the good work - still enjoying this build!

Yeah once we got the read out I realised how bad it is, happy to be replacing it 😊

You sound like me before I broke BOTH long crossmember bolts. You know, the bolts that thread into the captured nuts that you pretty much have to saw the car in half to replace.

that radiator is a ticking time bomb, good thing you caught it before it started leaking

Yep things don't always go to plan. Seeing those nice shiny blue hoses in your car reminds me I need a new rad for my Kawasaki and hoses too. Not cheap though.
@Elkadetodd3 жыл бұрын
Yup, just a "hose clamp" in the US. Which also might be either of the spring-loaded kind (wire or flat), but you throw those away every chance you get.
@EnginesandUnfinishedBusiness3 жыл бұрын
Yeah, she originally had the spring ones, they’re all in the bin now 😊

@@EnginesandUnfinishedBusiness we don't know what a "bin" is either. Or a "tip".

@@EnginesandUnfinishedBusiness Just be careful, if you have too bright of lights on one plane it can make seeing the darker areas even more difficult.... but you undoubtedly already know that. So I suppose it's just as a friendly reminder since we all (or at least I) regularly forget _glaringly_ obvious things that we know well.

Funny how just putting all the hoses on soon turns in £60ish quid for a new rad!
@EnginesandUnfinishedBusiness3 жыл бұрын
Gonna go for an all aluminium radiator, so it won’t rust again, so more like £160 😫 worth it though as we plan on keeping this car forever 😊

The company was British and called Jubilee clips ltd, or something similar. Hence the name. A bit like spherical rod end bearings being called Rose joints here too...

If going for an Ali rad, look into a pneumatic fitting to make bleeding easy, as the Ali rad won’t come with a nice twist open/close port.
@EnginesandUnfinishedBusiness3 жыл бұрын
We’ve found one that looks to have the bleed screw in the same place as stock, so hopefully that’ll be ok to bleed
