This was probably cheaper than finding a clean bed i think i might go this route on my xtra cab yota thanks for the inspiration austin

Even unfinished that’s probably the best looking flatbed I’ve ever seen. You may want a couple weep holes up front so the water doesn’t stand there.

@bradywilliams26664 жыл бұрын
I'm not really a fan of them either. But this one looks very good. I have been thinking of building one for our 84 Chevy Crew cab. We put a slide in camper on it for the summer. I could put tool boxes on the sides and have a bunch more storage for gear.

might be a good idea to put a breaklite on your headache rack too. Beautiful looking flatbed .You did a good job!

Austin, woah! That is the most beautiful Flat bed I've ever seen. You really thought about this! I can't believe how much attention to detail and work that went into this. Your are an amazingly talented young Man. I can't begin to thank you for this channel. I really look forward to hearing the notification sound go off and it's you or Cameron. Talent runs in your family with abundance. Peace.

Austin, Great build I love what your doing. Thanks for sharing your process, I'm getting great ideas. One idea I had for you to consider is an aftermarket flush mount fuel filler cap. Similar to the kind on a motorcycle gas tank. No worries of mud issues or need for your fabricated cover box with them, and saves on your back during fillup time. If your fully committed to the setup you've got now I understand, but perhaps an upgrade for the future once you've hit the pump a few times. Thanks again, Cheers!

Are you not concerned the bed liner will be slippery if wet and muddy? A overlay of expanded metal could provide traction

I really like those tie downs. I didn’t think about mine much and I just kinda copied the idea from my goose neck and used square u bolts with springs on the underside to keep them pulled down when not in use. Yours are definitely stronger!

I've really enjoyed watching at the bed video series so far. The only thing I think I would of done differently is the raised angle fender part. I think it would of benefited from having an 1 5/8" lip so some L-track could be fited and the rear most tie downs deleted. Other than that it looks great.

I would say your box around the the fill is a super idea...I totally understood what you were doing right off the bat....my thinking though would be that's more of a protector from rocks/pebbles being thrown up from the treads of those big meaty bone tires and breaking the cap..good job so far man!..I just found your vids and sub'd....I'm interested now.
@williamhorn42904 жыл бұрын
Just make 1 drawer between the rear wheel and the end of the cab. Attacjed to the bed of course xD on the trail you always need storage! Imagine later on down the line when you want to get an air locker for your axels, you can put it in there. Or recovery gear like nilon lines or whatever! Trust me man, you'll miss it....lving the bed so far man! can't wait to see it finished and instaled!

So much work to be done , you been nailing it , the coolest thing ever is to build something ourselves , I'm glad u have the knowledge the tools and the space for it . Weird is people not understanding about the fuel tap cover , English is not my first language and I understood it , the wheel is so close and it is an off road truck , it simply makes sense 🤷🏻♂️ The bed looks cool kinda slightly "new electric truck" style
@eugenelamm79414 жыл бұрын
What are you using for your rear side marker? If you notice all US vehicles require it. This is why the Manufacturers have the slight wraparound of the rear taillights. Awesome job BTW. Beats the commercial flatbeds I build.

@austinniemela4 жыл бұрын

@keshmo124 жыл бұрын
Nice work. How much does that thing weigh? Might want to go with some heavier springs. The payload of a Tacoma is like 1600 pounds? Doesn't leave very much room for cargo if you don't upgrade springs/axles.

Hindsight is 20/20. For tie downs a crisscrossing of t-tracks would have been super nice. Or better yet L-track. Put your tie downs almost anywhere you want or not at all. Oh well. Your next flatbed....

I have used that raptor liner with varying success. It stuck well to factory paint on bumpers but it shrank and cracked over body work in a bed. Its polyurethane. I honestly didnt like the stuff. Its to brittle and get s gouged a little easy plus its slippery. line x with the uv package is worth the extra money.
