Love it! I also got the same wireless carplay and it works great so far. I used a Command Strip sticky to stick it to the top of that little area so it doesn't move at alllll!

Liking your mods and great video! I will check out those weather strips on the wheel wells. That is very good idea. As well as the weather stripping over the headlights. I did the cargo area light mod. Those lights are fantastic! A huge improvement over the stock lighting. I also added that same tray to the center storage box. Additional mods I have done to my Prime include adding exterior animated LED turn signals to the front and rear of the vehicle. A unique looking roof rack. Android powered head rest monitors (Handy for the family on long road trips). Android powered rear view mirror that also doubles as a front and rear dash cam recorder. A 1500w AC inverter in the cargo area. (My Prime did not come with the "tech package" which would have included an inverter.) And an AuxBeam 8 channel control panel to switch on and off some of the mods.

Nice video, buddy. Can you tell me what your OEM tires and rim size were? I noticed your tires on the videos are 235/65R17 (nice by the way). My 2021 Rav4 Prime SE OEM are 225/60R18. When you slapped yours on... did you use center hub rings? Or just put on as is? Like those fender/splash liners...gonna get mine done too. Never knew it could cut down on wind noise. Take care and stay safe. JT

Hi, question about your seal foam for top of headlight to hood would this affect the cooling of the engine? I'm thinking of putting one on to mine. Seems a good idea but I'm wondering If that has a purpose.

Nice review What’s the real mpg in hybrid mode? What happens if You don’t charge it regularly and just let it run on gas . Will it charge itself enough from motion to give you the hybrid mpg? The fact that this car has an incentive that make it similar to the hybrid in term of price do you think it’s worth it even though if you don’t charge it regularly?

I would say under normal driving, nice weather, you can get the rated fuel economy. I track fuel economy using fuelly but it doesn't accurately break out EV-only vs HV-only driving. If you never plug in you may as well buy the normal hybrid version in my opinion. The Prime does have significantly more power though so if you want the most power, the Prime is the way to go.
@davidgapp1457

In Hybrid mode it will depend on how fast you are driving. At 75mph I get around 38mpg on the freeway but it drops to 36mpg at 80mph. Around town I actually get better than 40mpg in hybrid mode; possibly because the battery is able to harvest more energy than the standard hybrid. If you don't charge it regularly then it operates purely as a hybrid - the battery gauge is divided into two sections - the upper portion is the EV range and the lower the hybrid-only range. Once the battery drops into the hybrid range it operates exactly like the hybrid model and yes, the motor keeps the battery charged to the top of the hybrid-only range. You can also opt to charge the battery (to around 85% of the full EV range) while driving the car in hybrid mode. This is an option you select by pressing a button. It is useful for a few specific cases - for instance if you know there is a steep uphill section coming and you want additional power for overtaking slow cars on the uphill pull. Naturally this isn't an efficient way to charge the battery. What happens if you don't charge the battery? Weill it drives like a hybrid. But it's a hybrid that can generated 302hp (yes, even in hybrid mode you have access to the full power of the more powerful electric motors). It is also useful on downhill runs because the larger batteries means it can harvest more energy than the standard hybrid. To be honest I can't think of a reason NOT to charge the Rav4 Prime at home. With a near 50-50 split of out-of-town and in-town driving, I have averaged 63.5mpg combined since I bought the Prime some 8 months ago. If I used the Rav4 Prime just for commutes to work (pure electric), I could get almost 99mpg (I have a friend who does exactly this and she gave me the figure she is seeing). To be honest, if you can find a Prime without paying an extortionist mark-up, you'd would be hard pressed to find a reason not to buy. However there are a couple of points to consider. First, the hybrid can accommodate a full size spare tire whereas the Prime can only manage the standard emergency donut. Second, the Prime is heavier and the hybrid suspension feels better tuned. The brakes are also better on the hybrid due to the weight difference. The Prime also sits higher because the suspension is jacked up. This was necessary because the battery sits underneath the chassis - the suspension was lifted to ensure the ground clearance remains almost almost identical to the hybrid.

Depends on how you drive it and where you live I think. I live in a large City. But have a home and garage where I can charge. As long as I keep my mileage daily under ~45 miles, I can run in EV mode exclusively. My daily commute is ~ 33 miles. And there is tooling around on weekends, usually still under 40 miles. I have gone weeks at a time without using a drop of Gas. Months before needing a fill up. I am practically driving a full EV vehicle in the City. But then a few times a year me and my family enjoy long road trips for vacations, visits or recreation, which can traverse hundreds of miles. I can use EV mode for the first 40 miles or so on the highway, when the battery is depleted it goes to regular hybrid mode the rest of the way. When I am about 100-150 miles from my destination, I will engage EV Charge mode which will charge the battery back up. (80% max, and may cost me an mpg or two in gas usage). Then switch to EV driving for the last 30-40 or so miles. So far this has worked very well for me. Best of both worlds currently for my uses. And I don't have to deal the range anxiety, or advanced trip planning other EV drivers have to experience. Particularly on long trips.

As a previous Model Y owner I know you need an account and credit card to use the Tesla charges. I'm assuming that have an account with them in order to use the charging adapter?
@InternetDude

Hi, the Tesla J1772 adapter does not work for Superchargers, which is what handles billing. This is for Level 2 (240V) destination chargers at hotels, restaurants, businesses.

Any word on if lighting “upgrades” void any warranty? I’d love to upgrade my RAV4 hybrids lighting to LED, but a little worried about what might be in the warranties fine print…
@InternetDude
@InternetDude Жыл бұрын
I didn't look into it. I would assume that if the LED lighting caused problems it would likely not be covered. LEDs draw less power than incandescent bulbs so I doubt it will cause any issues.

The fact that you actually CAN upgrade things on this vehicle by yourself makes me happy. I have been driving Volkswagen and Seat for the last few year and upgrading those cars are not the easiest. In this one I can even swap out the stereo without hiring a technician.
