Totally awesome! Fix the door in 30 min. Feel great to open the side door the first time in one year. In addition to tightening the cable described in the video, I have to loosen up another cable for the door to work. Another thing, it might be difficult to take off the panel when the door is closed. Remove the cup holder screw and take the cup holder off. You can use a telephon wire to go through the holes on the panel, then yank the panel off.

The passenger side sliding door has never opened from the inside and this same trick fixed that side too. Thanks again for posting this!

Thank you so much! Just did this on a 2000 Sienna. I had broken the handle (passenger side, but it's all the same). I realize I had broken it because the cable was stretched. I bought a new handle and replaced that (SUPER easy--just unscrew the cup holder and pop the whole panel off to get at the 2 bolts holding the handle). But it was still not opening from the inside. There are 2 brass points where you can make some adjustment, but it was still sticking. Did this trick and I'm done. All back together in 10 min. Just needed flat&phillips screwdrivers, pliers, 8mm and 10mm sockets and double sided tape (to re-attach the dust plastic). Time to make some dinner.

Thanks you so much. I adjusted the part you said and it opened. But not when I used the out side handle. So I found the cable that came from there and adjusted it (even though it didn't have notches like the others) Oh well if it falls off I know exactly where to go to fix the problem. Thank you so much. It was very inconvienent to load and unload a huge heavy car seat from the opposite side.

I just wanted to add that this worked on my 1998 Sienna, however the cable that needed adjusting was the one off of the interior locking mechanism. And to take the door off on the other side, the cup holder needs to be yanked out first and the single screw behind it removed before popping the entire panel out. Looks like these cables all stretch over time and should all be moved to the next notch after time.

Didn't work for me. My outer handle won't release the latch all the way. And there's no adjustment for that one that I can find. The cable you are showing goes to the inner release button on my door.
@ReallyMakeItSo8 жыл бұрын
Yep, I had the same problem with the outside door handle for the right sliding door on 1998 Sienna - no adjustment notches on the latch cable. There are 3 cables going into the mechanism and 3 cables going out. Only 2 of the six cables seem to have those adjusting notches! Based on another video I saw, I just moved the slack cable for the outer door handle so the tip of the housing pushed up against the bracket, instead of having its slot rest in the bracket. This took up about 1/8 inch of slack. I carefully cinched a zip-tie around the cable housing and the bracket. It may not hold in the long run, but seems worth a try. I noticed the cable that goes to the forward latch has a zip tie on the latch side to hold it in place. I also added two new springs to the inside push button mechanism, whole thing works better than new. The original springs where never the right size!

Hi Boty Matos, I wonder if you were able to fix your Sienna I have the same problem and apparently this part is not in the Sienna 2006.
@mesharewithu94279 жыл бұрын
+Leonardo Cortez Hi Leonardo and Boty, I have a 2007 Sienna and was wondering if either one of you have been able to fix the problem. I was so excited about trying out the repair via this video but then I read that the part he speaks about wasn't in another person's later model. I don't want to go through taking the door apart, etc. if there is nothing I can do about it. If you have any input, I would greatly appreciate it.
@leonardocortez56279 жыл бұрын
Hi Susan Y, it sounds bizarre but I realized that at least in my case the problem appears to be related to the humidity inside the car. I rarely have this door problem on summer (I live in a very dry city) but in winter when water start to condensate inside is when the problems start. I found that running the air conditioning for a few minutes most of the times allows me to open the sliding door normally. I know this is not a definitive solution but is the only solution that I found. I hope this works for you too.
@mesharewithu94279 жыл бұрын
OMG... I thought I was losing my mind! Same exact thing here! During the winter (I live in MA), the door opens just fine. But, summertime it is a hit or miss and it is more if a rarity when it does open. The passenger sliding door does it once in awhile also but not enough to drive me nuts (like the other one). I thought maybe it was something electrical but the doors are manual. I decided to take a peek today and was furious because I couldn't remove the panel. Why? Because the door wouldn't open and I was unable 2 access the only 2 screws that prevented me from taking the thing off. I could only do so much because the panel wouldn't open wide enough. I was hoping to find a similar issue that the poster of this video discussed even if it wasn't in the same location as his. I asked the dealership's service department about it and they said it would cost a small fortune ( over 1k) to fix. Ugh. Thank you for your reply. I'll give the ac a shot. At the very least at least I know someone else knows what I'm talking about! ☺

@leonardocortez562710 жыл бұрын
Hi Hyun Kim, I wonder if you finally found this magic part in your Sienna or if you were able to fix the door. I have the same problem and I don't know what to do
@hyunkim15310 жыл бұрын
Hi, It is hard to explain what I did in words, but I can tell you that 2005 sienna does not have the magic part, instead you have the take the door panel off, either the small part or the whole door panel, depending on your situation, and what I did was compare the working door with the non-working one and found out the part that is connected to the door opening part. I had to use screwdriver to force it to move, cause it was stuck. Again, it is hard to explain...Mine is sort of fixed, that I can open the door from outside easily but still from inside it sometimes works, sometimes doesn't.
