I’d love to see a non-sequential twin setup, always loved the look and the fact that you could pair smaller turbos and have quicker spool up and better transient response

Awesome video !! I’m a mechanic and think my turbo / s are smoking on my aristo ! Not really messed with my engine much yet Your video is very very useful and you explain things so well ! Also you explained how the turbos stage which I have been curious about for a while so thank you Furthermore I think it’s turbo 1 that is smoking on mine as it gets used more ;) we will see soon !

I have an MA70 supra and am doing a "period correct" sequential twin setup using the stock CT26E which has a 58mm turbine exducer and I figure it will be way too laggy if they are in parallel twin setup. I figure I can use a turbosmart straitgate50mm butterfly valve style wastegate to control the exhaust flow into the second turbo instead of controlling it after the turbine which I see as overall a massive restriction when trying to make power. Twin 58mm should be roughly the performance of a 70mm turbo going on exducer size only but it should be pretty rowdy anyway. I recon having the wastegate opening once the first turbo makes a certain amount of boost (lets say 20psi) should make the power band much better than having it open at a certain RPM. If the first turbo is making boost it just opens up the second turbo to make even more power rather than venting through its own wastegate. I am a little stuck on how to make the intake side one way valve for the compressor outlet on the second turbo, is there an off the shelf type of valve that would be suitable?

Is there a way to move turbo 2 into turbo 1's position and basically swap them so that the less used one gets used more frequently? Like if both were useable but one was just more worn? Im buying a 1jz-gte soon and dont have the cash to go big single yet. If not, whatd be the equivocal size single in comparison to the twins? Great vid. Thanks for the explanation.

Mate, that was a very clear explanation. I have this Sequential Setup on my Supra currently. My Pre Spool valve is broken and is always shut. I have an aftermarket ECU and can control everything else (Exhaust VSV and the Intake VSV) Can I open the Exhaust Gas VSV at like 10-20% as a prespool (As that little pre spool valve will never open) I've tried it with 20% duty on the Exhaust VSV (opening earlier to pre spool the second turbo) and haven't noticed any different in Boost when it opens 20%, so not sure if its actually doing anything. Wondering if I open it anymore, will the exhaust pressure force it open the whole way? Really happy with the Sequential system, just want to minimize the boost dip in crossover and extend the life of them by not hitting the second turbo with heaps of pressure from a dead stop. Any help would be appreciated.

So I'm trying to run these turbos on my GE head as I am trying to do a super budget build and have these available. I got a manifold made to fit these turbos on the GE head as the GTE head has a different bolt pattern. Will I need to delete the valve system that makes them sequential and run them as two singles? My manifold DOES NOT have the bridge that the stock one does.

Sounds like this is coming from someone that is ignorant to building cars and how they function not to mention the money involved. You do realize how much more money goes into rebuilding the stock turbos and or goin with higher capacity bigger twin turbos not to mention fabbing a kit to make them work . Toyota nor the original turbo maker doesnt really stock rebuild kits for these turbo so you are goin have trouble finding a kit for these. Not to mention the cost of the rebuild plus fixing all the thing that comes with repairing the stock turbo system if you saw this video then you saw how complex the stock turbo system is and how much is involved with maintaining the stock system so that means even more parts to pay for if need be and or that can fail again along with stock turbos which are known to do so as well. The same failure as he had is common on those engines. The front turbo fails as the rear turbo doesnt receive as much work. Single turbo is simple get a standard free flowing manifold, source a turbo, and a wastegate and you can adjust boost as needed via the wastegate itself, boost controller , tune, etc. Less parts to fail, less headache, and more ability for solid capable power for less money. All said and done you can go single turbo for far cheaper than rebuilding the stocks especially if you buy used parts. People dont put the stocks back in for this reason alone think about it guy
@KeenanStyles
@KeenanStyles 5 жыл бұрын
You would easily change your mind if you owned one of these. Not only is a single turbo easier to work on, more efficient and put out more power but its also a shit ton lighter. The entire twin turbo set up is stupid heavy. I carried mine up the stairs from my car port and was in shock that something so gigantic and heavy was on the side of my engine. The whole assembly easily weighed 80lbs. Also the less complicated a system is the less chances of something going wrong. If you like response go with a smaller turbo but the twins are too much of a pain in the ass to keep.

@@marcmann982 I know the reason behind it. You can't assume that I don't know anything about building cars or how much they cost. And I know how a single turbo works and it's benefits against factory twinturbos. I just told my opinion to see how will it turn out if it's doable because I love the concept of twinturbos. I appreciate your reply but I did not like the tone behind it.

@@KeenanStyles Thanks, I appreciate your reply, most of "the" Japanese cars are really really rare in where I live and it's not possible for me to compare twinturbos system to a single turbo practically but I theoretically know benefits of single turbo against factory twinturbos.

So you can bypass the solenoids in order to run the car in 'True Twin' mode, which will make the turbos both run in parallel. That results in a little bit more lag but a far more linear response. This also can help prolong the life of the turbo.
