The J engines didn't start from the big bore spacing six cylinders, but as a follow on from the G and S series Four cylinders, which had drastically reduced bore spacings from the 2T, 3T and 18/21/22 R engines to fit in the transverse front drive engine bays, mandated to fit the JDMs maximum 67 inches car width. The Celica XX had the first incarnation of the 3.615 bore spacing engine. It's effectively a mirror imaged six cylinder 3SGE without the Center cylinder bore pitch difference. As an engine, it's strong, but it's still only a narrow bore pitch engine, and it's peak cylinder head flow is way below the larger 1989 onwards Nissan RB26 and the '02-'16 Ford Barra Falcon 4 liter engine. Block strength is limited by oil galley positioning, but it's the way the 2JZE responds to turbo boost that makes this engine such a force. Great video, respect for your energy and sharing the Right Info!

I would also add: The GTE motors are non interference engines. This means that when your timing belt snaps or skips tooth, the pistons don't meet the valves. This is with stock pistons and stock cams of course. There is another significant difference between the GE and The GTE shortblock: the GTE block has two oil feeds on the exhaust side of the block that the GE doesn't have. They can be added tho.
