Toyota Tacoma New Hood Struts Installed

Like hood struts guess it’s $50-$60 they (all small trucks) don’t spend on trucks. Save a nickel here and a nickel there. Sort of like Tacomas still run drum brakes on the rear.

Thanks Rob just installed mine on my 2022 Tacoma TRD OFF ROAD!!!Yes, it had the straight brackets… worked like a freaking champ!!! The packaging had a 2016 sticker inside…. 🤷🏼‍♂️

Still prefer the Redline struts, more difficult to install but both struts are positioned identically and both are equally sized.

I installed those struts around a year and half ago, although I don’t lift my hood up too often , so far they are holding up well. They are pretty good for the $ , and I liked not having to drill and paint any new holes . I didn’t like the sharp edges of the brackets, so I filed them down and repainted them. Unnecessary I realize, but Im anal like that.

Another alternative would be to use the Stryker hood strut kit that ONLY has a strut on the driver's side. They do make a 2-strut kit, but there is also a one strut kit. That makes fitment issues on the air intake side moot as there is no strut on the passenger side.

Realize this is about Tacos, but... speaking of single struts-was looking through my files and found an under hood pic of my 2014 Chevy SS. Stranger than true: Chevy used only ONE strut. and it's on the driver's side in about the same location as your Redlines. The SS hood was lighter. Still shame on Toyota for not installing struts.

I take it to a good Toyota dealer that way every thing is covered and at trade in time they have the records showing it, I get two free changes when new and recently a third from their coupon. The oil filter should be from Toyota also. Why would any one want to do it themselves?

Ya know, those struts just don't look like they are going to be able to hold up over time. First thing is, that attaching with one bolt on the upper mounts, and that stupid sticky tape stuff for the other side. The excessive weight of the hood is going to be a big problem for that one bolt to hold secure up on the upper mount. The second thing is, the struts just don't seem to be mounted very efficiently in regards to proper operating angle especially, again, considering the weight of the hood they have to support. The angle and sweep of movement just looks like trouble to me. Probably due to not wanting to have user drill holes and having to use what was there already, the whole design looks compromised. Add to all that those kinda skimpy looking strut bodies and I can't see these things working more than a few months without serious issues. Just my take, I am going to go with Redline Tuning's setup, its more expensive and you do have to drill and use their "special" pop rivets, but it looks to me like the angles are better to avoid sticktion and other problems over time and the components look sturdier. And, again, you do want sturdy when you are talking about raising and supporting that heavy ass hood...are those things lined with lead or what?
