Toyota tacoma or Hilux 5 speed $24 fix. poping out of gear or unable to shift into some gears

I though all hope was lost for my 94 Toyota pick up until I found your video. My truck would slip out of 3 gear and I couldn’t get it into 4th. Followed your instructions (with not too much optimism I’ll add) to the t and I’ll be god damned that it worked. Shifts beautifully now. You sir are a saint.

The shifter socket on my 1991 Toyota pickup 4x4 made it to 490,000 miles before it wore out and started jumping out of gear . $12.00 for trans work in half a million miles ain't to bad . Only engine work so far was water pump and timing chain at 400,000 miles . Still runs smooth and strong . Love these trucks .

My 2002 Tacoma just started jumping out of 3rd. Watched this and a few other videos, because this seemed to fit my trucks symptoms. Very easy fix, it's all good now.

Thank you very much, my buddy's truck was popping out of 2nd gear because the outer ring was cracked into small pieces and mostly gone, and it wasn't shifting into 2nd gear all the way. We replaced it and the problem is solved, $20 in parts, 30 min's just because we kept walking to get tools, I felt very confident to do this repair after your excellent instructions and comments, thank you very much.

I am the original owner of 1995 Toyota Tacoma 275000 miles 2 weeks ago it started popping out of gear, I thought my transmission was done. I watched your video checked it my seal was disintegrated bought the parts from Toyota cost 20.36 truck runs perfect now thank you.

I replaced the socket and seat today and still have issues going into fear. The truck won’t go into gear when cold and only shifts better once the truck warms up after a little driving. Any ideas? Thank you.

As you said, it was probably the seal. The Dorman bushing I had in the kit was the wrong diameter and I had to reuse the old one. The seal was the same as your - nothing but a rubber washer and some junk I vacuumed out. Thanks, that seal fixed the problem. Removing that 1/4 turn cap was the hardest part. Took some effort on a 21 year old truck?

Just did mine! Clean out the old remnants, and MAKE SURE you take out the rubber gasket/bushing ring at the bottom of the shift cup, from the old ring.. so its only metal! Get the shift seat, and socket, ( both bushings!) from marlin crawler.

My '96 doesn't get a lot of use but I took it out to charge the battery today and it was popping out of first gear after stops. It's been fine until now but it hasn't seen a cool day for a while. Maybe something to that but I'm betting it has the same issue you described. Thanks, appreciate the advice.

Thank-you so much for this video! I just had a transmission go out on me in an f150, so I bought a basic little 2002 Toyota Tacoma that appears to be identical to the one in the video. It started slipping out of fourth gear recently so I have to hold it in gear, or even skip it and go to fifth sometimes. I was scared another transmission was going out on me. I have just one question. Where did you buy the seat?

you can get them from online like rock auto but the price difference is negligible and there are a few different ones so i always get it from the dealership hope it helps

closed it last year. I had to do something about my weight I was 550lbs in December. I went to Tijuana Mexico and had Gastric sleeve surgery in June. lost 170 lbs so far.
