Toyota Tacoma | Quad Lock vs Ram X Grip Phone Mount | (2017 Tacoma)

Today I review, install a new push/release tab, and install/review the Quad Lock system in comparison to the Ram Ball Mount X Grip system. I really do not have any complaints about the X-Grip system on its own. It's when you compare to a superior set up where it starts to fall short. The Quad Lock system requires one hand to dock/ undock where the X Grip requires two. The footprint/profile of the Quad Lock system is much smaller than the X Grip. It is much less visible from the exterior and sticks out less on the interior. The Quad Lock set up does require a new Quad Lock specific phone case which did not bother me as my phone cases are usually super cheap and plan cause I'm pretty boring. Also, the standard color of the push/release tab is the company blue, it looks similar to the Mopar Blue. Where I love me some old Mopar the blue does not go with my interior. I wanted a black release tab which is another ten bucks. I feel like Quad Lock should throw in another color release tab for the price of the system. There are several color options. Overall super easy install under twenty minutes for everything including the swap out of the release tab, and the new garage tech shirt wifey bought me stayed clean. I don't typically have a case on my phone unless I'm doing something where I'm more prone to dropping/breaking it, so the Quad Lock isn't for me haha I use the Arkon mount. Kinda similar to the RAM mount but I can do it with one hand.

After seeing this I went out and bought a quad lock system for my 7plus. I currently run a phone mount that awkwardly requires two hands also. Hoping the quad lock clears up that minor annoyance

It has been great for me this week. I'm in and out of the truck constantly for work, kids practice and errands all day. I did have to get used to the right slant position for locking it in. It will take a little to get used to the feeling. Thanks for watching.

I missed the important part of how you connected the quad lock to the truck/3TPAM. Do you have the 'RAM Composite Double Socket Arm ' to connect the Ball joint of the quad lock to the ball on 3TPAM?

Yes, It is the Ram composite double socket arm with a ram diamond base ball mount. Ball mount on the 3TPAM to the socket arm, to the Quad Lock.

How did you attach the ball mount to your dash?

Thanks for watching. The ball mount is a Ram diamond base ball mount screwed into the 3TPAM. Then a 4 inch ball socket extension, then the Quad lock ball mount to the extension. Hope that makes sense.
