This is a great example of paying for what you get. I'm sure many other people could "DO" this job but how many of them would do it correctly. Sadly, not many. Glad to see there are a few good mechanics still left out there.

This isn’t the space shuttle… he did a great attention to detail job here, but it’s not a super difficult job. Especially for a Toyota tech. Bet he’s done about a half million of these between tundras, Tacomas and 4Runners. Love the fact it’s rust free! Makes it fun to work on.

@nordicpride9708 why would you comment something like that to my comment? Like, you took time out of your day to disagree with a random positive comment on the internet because...? Do you not have better things to do with your life? A job. A wife,gf,bf? Family? Friends? Neighbors? Please, get help and get well ❤️

@@leftcoastdrifter A little bit of a overreaction on your part. I stated it’s not a difficult job. Maybe try less sensitivity

Can you make video on how to change the transmission fluid with filter change on a 3rd gen tacoma thanks ☺️

Very nice video! There are not enough videos out there about work like this on Tacomas. Thankfully they don’t need work like this often but because of the video, I could definitely do this myself instead of paying probably a grand at the dealer. Does the Amazon puller linked have all the parts needed? Looks different than what is used in the video, I’m assuming dealer/oem tools vs aftermarket?

We have the amazon one now, and it works well. The factory one has adapter plates that always get screwed up. The job is not that bad to do. I also hope to do a more in-depth video someday with more explanation.

Hoping this fixes my rear wheel wobble. Just ordered a bearing

Some model year tacomas have had issues with the rear axle being out of round. You have to measure it with a dial indicator.

I'm in Oregon, so that would be a big bill. Hope you can get it figured out. I know some places sale complete axle and bearing setups. I'm not sure how good they are. I've never used one.

Would a dealer let me bring in just the axle and I do the rest? Thanks for a great video.
@shoptimewithdrew
@shoptimewithdrew Жыл бұрын
I know our dealer will. You will just have to call them and find out. We charge 50% of the labor for the job. In our region, it would cost around $225 just to press the bearing off and on.

Why reuse the seal in the diff? Do they never leak
@shoptimewithdrew
@shoptimewithdrew 2 жыл бұрын
I replaced the seal just didn't video it. Also the seal is actually what normally takes out the bearing. The seal will leak and gear oil will get in the bearing and take out the grease. Both your comments are good. I was wondering if someone would ever ask those questions because I was kicking my self for not adding it in the video. Thank you

Did you pinch off the flex hose at the center of the axle because I didn't see anything on the end of the line to prevent it from draining the reservoir
@shoptimewithdrew
@shoptimewithdrew 2 жыл бұрын
Yes you are correct I used a hose pinch off tool on the flex lines just forgot to video that.

Depends on your location. we are about 900 for parts and labor. 1800 seems like a lot.

If you have the proper tools for the Job, is not that hard to DIY, the parts are cheaper at NAPA and the bearing tool you can get from Amazon

If you spend the money on tooling, and time to do it, use the saving to buy OEM parts (if still available). 99% of the time, a common parts store brand won't be equal quality to OEM.
@shoptimewithdrew
@shoptimewithdrew 2 жыл бұрын
Yes I recommend OEM parts for all jobs if available. If someone wants to save money on parts going aftermarket that is fine but it may cost you more when you have to replace the part again. Build quality is not as good as factory and that is why it is cheaper.

@@pedromorales5608 Awesome, good info. Finding the supplier if possible is what I often do also. Ive used SKF and Timken bearings when oem boxed parts werent available. Bando belts, Aisin, Denso, NGK, and the like - all have been 100%. Thanks for the info
