Beautiful video. I now know that my 2017 TRD 4x4 Sport can handle any terrain with two kids riding in the back. Great actual review of all 3 Tacos. Off-Road: went up easily. piece of cake. Sport: hold my beer I can do it too. SR5: wait for me, I'll be up eventually. Love it.

I'm having a hard time picking between the 2022 off road and sport. Im guessing they can't make the crew cab with a 6' box have crawl and rear diff locking dye to the transfer case required? I feel like if they had rear diff locking on the Sport, it would be hands down the best option for what most people look for in a truck. 5 foot box or access cab just to get rear diff locking is a bit of a shame. After watching this video though, I have confidence the sport will be able to handle most off road situations just fine, just be a bit more maneuvering through the terrain. Thanks for the vid!

Yes, you can certainly add a locking diff later. A few ways to do that but I honestly have no idea what the associated costs are. The sport will likely be a great truck for you though. @OFFTHEGRIND
@OFFTHEGRIND 3 жыл бұрын
Couple things, we didn't set out to do a comparison of the trucks. We got back, and I realized we had footage of the different models going through the same obstacle and I thought it would make an interesting video. As for the traction control being off, that was that drivers decision. That being said, this video showcases what the different levels of traction control offered by Toyota is capable of. Some people like to off road with no aid whatsoever, and this shows that traction control can also be turned completely off on these trucks, should you want more of a challenge. I stated very plainly that this was not a stock comparison and even listed all of the differences between the trucks. But hey, it is still the internet...

Idk what how the heck the red tacoma struggled so much. My tacoma doesn't have a locker and I've had it on 2 wheels and it doesn't struggle at all, you just gottalearn to use traction control to your advantage. You need to give it gas as soon as you feel tires slippingand it will engage. Also just hit the brakes while accelerating , it makes a huge difference.

It had traction control turned off like I said in the video. It has it, but wasn’t being used in that clip

Yeah, I noticed that shortly after getting my 4Runner. I had it in two wheel drive and was slightly stuck in the snow, the rear wheels would slip and traction control would kick in, and then I'd take my foot off the gas. After a few times, I realized I should just keep my foot on the gas, and then it did its thing and I was able to park without having to shift into 4 high. I imagine the e-lsd that the tacos have works similarly.

Most of the world outside the untied states doesn’t have all these fancy traction controls and rear lockers when they go off road, the just send it and get stuff done. I’ve seen a Suzuki taxi get through trails like these, it’s a lot about the driver, tires and ground clearance. In that order.
@OFFTHEGRIND

Most of the US doesn’t use this stuff either. I agree it’s a lot about the driver but I highly doubt a Suzuki sedan would get through moguls like these

Nice to see a true off road comparison instead of a walkaround and features like most videos. I was second guessing with a TRD sport Access cab manual transmission, but I'm left with no choice as the off road access cab doesn't offer a manual, but the double cab does - wtf. Guess Sport Access Cab 6spd manual it is...
