👁 About this video : This is the 3rd generation Toyota Tacoma and it's an awesome truck! This 2021 Toyota Tacoma TRD Sport has a lot of nice features. The Army Green color for the 2021 Tacoma looks very aggressive and contrasts well with the black accents! The interior has the premium package so we have leather seats form the TRD Pro which look great! The new 2021 Tacoma TRD Sport drives very smooth and has plenty of power for normal driving. 2021 Tacoma also is very capable with great towing and payload, but also fantastic off road setting and abilities! The new 2021 Tacoma TRD is a great truck with so much to offer! This model also has the 6 speed manual which a lot of offroad enthusiast prefer because of the gear ratio and of course being able to stay in the gear you want. They are rare to find, but cool to check out! The manual adds some character to the Tacoma and the clutch cancel is a neat feature to see, which can be helpful on the trails.

From what I've always known. An automatic transmission in a 4x4 truck is only important for when you are one of them Rock Crawler kind of people. I could be wrong. But I want a manual transmission because I understand the dependability part of it. Everyone is different. I don't really like an automatic transmission. Unless it's in a fast car and you don't want to lose the race. Or if you just don't like to shift or something. Maybe you just don't know how.

I have own 3 Tacoma's in my life. The first two being manuals (1991, 2002) and the latest one being my first automimic (2012). I will never buy another automimic Tacoma again. They are not near as fun and you feel so discounted from the truck. If Toyota ever decides to get rid of the manual Tacoma. My next truck will not be a Toyota. The only reason I'm saying this is because rumor has it 2024 is the last year of the manual Tacoma.. :(

I would honestly disagree with that! I think it's awesome that Toyota offers a manual, but it's so sluggish and slow in my opinion. I'm on my second auto Tacoma and I don't see any issues with it, but it's awesome you can pick which one you want based on what you need and like. I have a manual in my sportscar so for me, I save the manual for that fun!

Hey man! Great video! How is the engine braking on those tacos? When you're approaching a light or a stop and you downshift ahead of time instead of applying the brake, do you feel the motor slowing you down, or do you need to use alot of brake?
@BrosFOURRSpeed
@BrosFOURRSpeed 3 жыл бұрын
Glad you enjoyed this Tacoma review! I don't engine brake hardly ever in cars! It's so worth wearing out the brakes and replacing them, then putting extra stress on the engine for no reason! When coming to a light or a stop, in a manual, I put the vehicle in neutral and coast to a stop using the brakes. Don't need a lot in the Tacoma unless you are towing.

Usually when shifting you should push the clutch in all the way, if the clutch is feeling "loose" and easier to push, it could be, but that shouldn't happen until 100k miles, clutches can last a long time!

I have one in Voodoo Blue. It's a shame the manuals are so under-allocated--they disappear almost immediately when they show up. The sticker fuel economy on these is lower than the automatic, but I consistently get better than the rating. The rear end gearing is lower (slightly higher revs) but that means it's right at home in 6th gear on the highway. I can climb hills without downshifting to 5th. I bet the take rate would be higher if the manuals actually were stocked.

@KayBertoss
@KayBertoss 3 жыл бұрын
@Jon Smith Can't disagree about the 3.0L V6. The head gaskets went twice on my truck. Once under warranty and once out of warranty. Toyota fixed them both times. I had a canopy and boat rack for a canoe on mine. Also towed a 12' Travel trailer. Did the Alaska Highway in 2003 without one issue. 5spd was essential to keep the RPM's up for towing. However, My 92 was well maintained from day one and never left me stranded. Sold the truck in 2006 and was floored at how much I got for it. Been a loyal Toyota Truck fan ever since.

@KayBertoss 3 жыл бұрын
@@BrosFOURRSpeed I believe the 3.0L debuted in the 1988.5 to 1994-5 model years. 150 hp and 180 torque. This was before they called them Tacoma's. They were just called "Toyota Trucks" as the T-100 was just introduced in 1992. The Tacoma name was introduced for the 1995 model year. Most old school Toyota trucks were sold without rear bumpers. Rear bumpers were an option. I added a rear chrome bumper to my 1992 when I bought it brand new. From Consumer Guide: "When behind the wheel, we discovered that Toyota’s 150-horsepower 3.0-liter V6 is a little smoother than its Nissan counterpart, though neither has nearly the torque of the sixes in the domestics, such as the Ford Ranger or Chevy S-10. Nonetheless, performance from our 5-speed 4WD Xtracab SR5 V6 was good: 13.1 seconds in the 0-60 sprint-not bad for the heaviest model in the line. Braking also was laudable, with short stopping distances and good resistance to rear-wheel locking". From Motor Trend: "To increase engine power until it could introduce a V-6 engine, Toyota sold a turbo-version 22RTE in some models in 1986 and 1987. In 1988, the 3.0L V-6 3VZE engine was introduced. The 22RE and 3VZE were replaced with new engines in the Tacoma line. Engine size was increased and the new engines were the 2.7L 3RZFE and the 3.4L 5VZFE. There were also a few odd diesel 4WDs that made their way to the U.S., but those are quite rare". Hope that helps.

How’s acceleration at low rpm? Does it have enough pull at 2000-3000 to get you moving well or is it sluggish there?
@BrosFOURRSpeed
@BrosFOURRSpeed 2 жыл бұрын
Its all right. It does feel like you have to hurry up and shift into 2nd tho. But it gets there
@confidentlocal8600
@confidentlocal8600 2 жыл бұрын
The engine has a very flat torque curve (at least compared to other normally aspirated engines) from 2000 rpm to 4500 rpm. It takes longer to build the torque in the low-speed range, but it will do it. It will pull up grades on the interstate in 6th gear, no problem. I drive mine between 1500 rpm and 2500 rpm around town all the time for better fuel economy. The torque reminds me of a diesel with a slow turbo. Towing isn't an issue in that rpm range either. I suspect the throttle delay is because the engine uses an Atkinson cycle at low speed and load where the throttle is actually left open and valve timing controls the air quantity. The ECU has to smoothly transition out of that mode back to Otto cycle to develop full torque, but it can't do it instantaneously.
@bullpolizei
@bullpolizei 2 жыл бұрын
Hey Brothers, do you ever hear a faint tick or ping under load at around 2500ish rpm? Have an '18 model that does this. Seems to quiet down if I run higher octane. Doesn't do it above 3000 though. Just curious

Feel isn't great IMO, but there are mods to make it better. I enjoy driving mine around as-is, but I have to be more cautious when dropping two or three gears at a time, which isn't often. Hill starts and whatnot are a complete non-issue.

How are you liking it? I'm looking into getting the same truck in the green in a month or two, as soon as I can find one. I heard that the seats are uncomfortable on trips over 2 hours though, something they've fixed on the 2024s. But the 2024 is a 4-cylinder turbo. I want the 6.

Yeah we'll see. However this green is very similar to our 95 Ford Explorer our dad had when we were kids. So while it might not be the most popular color, I'm sure it'll look like any other dark green in 20 years from now ;)

@@BrosFOURRSpeed I like the 2 wheel drive Tacoma with a V6 and manual transmission. I bet that truck is awesome. I don't want the adaptive cruise control. Too bad it's not available. And I don't want the lane thing. And I also don't want to hear any warning buzzers or bells. If Toyota can do that for me. Then I also don't want electric windows. All of the extra stuff that I really don't want means that it will break. I want a standard 4 door Tacoma with a V6 and a manual transmission and a rear end differential that I can lock in when I want to. 🙂

Yep, why i hated the 6 speed. A 300 RPM drop is useless. A v6 truck should be able to do 70MPH at 2K rpm, not at 55Mph. Gutless. If I was to downsize from my 7.3 F-250, id probably go back to a tacoma because i have that M/T tacoma owners group and I dont even have a tacoma lol
