Toyota Tercel built to last

Today I had the opportunity to review a really cool old 90s gem the Toyota Tercel. Such a basic car but has everything you need to get from point A - B if your not worried about looks and performance. This car can get 40mpg powered by 1.5L 4cylinder 5e-fe engine with a 5speed gearbox

I bought a 99 Tercel slushbox as a second car for the wife. Had about 140,000 miles on the odometer. She drove that little guy for 6 years and I gave it to my niece, so she could attend university. She drove it for another 21/2 years and racked up many miles. She graduated and got a new car so sold the Tercel to another student. It is still running. They were the greatest basic transportation car ever built. You couldn't kill it and it started every time regardless of the weather! The body was pristine even with all our road salt here in the Toronto area. A fantastic vehicle!!!

I found one just like this for $900 but it's automatic. 190k miles. Super clean. 1 owner who says they kept it serviced at Toyota dealerships. Everything works. AC, heat, radio. I'm buying it this weekend. This will be my gas saver.

At the end of last summer i scored a '99 tercel for $900 off some kid going to work in the oil fields one province over. Had 245,050 kms on it, now it has about 252,300, and i'm gonna cling to it for as long as it runs. No reason to go buy a car now, the used ones are getting too pricey and gas prices aren't gonna come down. A 90's toyota is going to be worth it's weight in gold as the decade passes.

paid 500$ for it back in December 23' and changed the clutch pressure plate brakes and fuel pump now it's like new

I got a 95 STD super good car. Only paid 350, runs and handles like a champ, wasn’t built with power steering. Thankful for that kinda because that’s another thing that can easily disrupt the reliability.

90s-00s Japanese cars, specifically Toyotas, are exceptional vehicles. Never should have sold my ‘97 Corolla. Now I’m after another Corolla, Tercel, or even an Echo.

@@vsmiata2177 100%. But people get caught up in wanting to be “fancy”, their vehicle needs to reflect a certain status. I can’t blame them since late model vehicles certainly do offer some cool amenities, but it’s generally not my cup of tea. I’m at a point where my daily driver paints a very frugal and/or utilitarian picture. I can’t stand vehicles that are A. hard to work on B. expensive to fix, and C. over engineered.

I have a one owner tercel sport 5 speed. I’ve owned many cars in my life & I’m sure I’ll own more. BUT… I will NEVER sell my Tercel. Best car I’ve ever owned & I’ve had some nice cars & new cars too

Keep n eye on your oil level n it will never die, ignore this and it will die💪👍

If you change the clutch, replace the oil gasket seal inside at the same time,, It's getting harder to find parts now
