Ford F-150 FX4 vs Toyota Tundra TRD Pro would be a great matchup

Ford F150 outside of the Raptor doesn't really compete with the TRD Pro.
@johnnymossville10 жыл бұрын
CACressida The TRD is mostly a half hearted attempt to please the Toyota truck owners who secretly drool over owning a Raptor. The TRD is a really nice truck, but they didn't go the extra mile Ford did with the Raptor.
@CACressida10 жыл бұрын
Ford didn't go an extra mile, they went an extra 10 miles. Ford sells enough units to produce the Raptor without getting beaten up by the EPA where the Tundra doesn't. Also, the cost of engineering a Raptor fighter wouldn't be feasible since they don't even sell enough Tundras to make enough profit off the model to design something like the Raptor. Yes, we know Toyota is filthy rich but they still run a business but they didn't get rich making crazy products. I would love to see a Tundra Raptor fighter because we know Toyota can do it but it's not going to happen.

Cezar W i believe the older model 4.7l v8 that toyota had in their trucks around 03 or 04 had a faulty crankshaft which literally snapped in half on a lot of them thus why you dont see many on the roads still. if i buy a truck i stick to domestic brands. no specific loyalty.

XiAmFAUSTX I'm uninterested in purchasing a truck, let alone pricing. I still find that Toyota is overpriced, even used models. I'd sooner buy a used F150 than a used Toyota pickup for 10K more. You just need to do your research before buying. Last pickup I purchased was a Chevy as the Ford F150s for those years, which had the 3 valve per cylinder engine, had issues with cylinders/pistons/injectors failing. I see where you're coming from but I think some of what you're saying is from skewed data.

Hey everybody thought i would throw in my two sense! I own a 2006 Toyota Tundra the 4.7l v8. Its my daily driver and my work truck. Im a landscaper so i tow an 18' landscape trailer with equipment daily. it has 180,000 miles on it. Im not for or against any car company. My comments are from almost 8 years of use. The truck has performed beyond my expectations. The only repairs have been the usual maintenance items…wear and tear. Brakes, timing belt, oil changes, i replaced a couple of the nobs on the dash and a bushing on the driveshaft. Runs and sounds like the day i drove it off the lot! when it does kick the bucket guess why my next truck will be:)

The raptor is pretty good and looks cool and all but to me it's just seems like a useless toy. The main purpose of the Raptor is desert racing/Baja and the working capabilities of the truck are removed, yet the Tundra TRD PRO, mainly a work truck with some factory offroad goodies, beat the Raptor at its own game in the Baja 1000, the main thing the Raptor was made for. Plus the problem with the Raptor's frame bending and damage after taking them to desert racing and the widen stance on them creates premature bearing wear and other suspension component wear.
@blakew10268 жыл бұрын

I've owned Toyota 4x4s for 25 years. This time, I went with a '18 SR5 4x4 (~$37K), then bought a set of nice wheels and tires, Bilstein 6112 coilovers adding 2.5" level, and the TRD dual exhaust system. Hanging all the parts myself, I spent another $4K, bringing the total to ~$41K. Both these trucks are too big for tight, technical trails. Mine is a daily work/toy hauler, as I do most of my off-roading on 2 wheels these days. Hauling street and dirt bikes, having a 40"+ tailgate height would suck for loading/unloading. I didn't hear a cost comparison, but I'd be surprised if you could buy a new Raptor for less than $20K over what I have in my truck. Ford not only loses in build quality/durability, but gets their ass kicked in resale all the way to the bank. Ford's the "king" in sales? It helps when you'll finance anyone with a pulse. ;)

I don't care for that really wide c-pillar on the Tundra. And I realize that I might be in the minority here, but I just do not understand why full-size pickup trucks have gotten to be so huge. When I look at these newer trucks and compare them to a 1976 GM...well, it just seems ridiculous. Some of these things are now more than eighty inches wide. And while they all seem to get taller, wider, and longer every year, they are all trying everything under the sun to improve their mpg ratings. It just seems counter-productive to me. But it isn't just the full-sized pickups, my ex-wife and I bought a 2006 Toyota 4Runner and a few months later I saw an older 4Runner parked next to us. Ours was HUGE compared to an older model. A new Tacoma is probably almost as big as a late seventies model Ford or Chevy half-ton. One of my favorite cars was a 1988 Dodge Raider, it was manufactured by Mitsubishi and sold by Dodge. It was a first generation Montero and it was a great 4X4. It had a 4-cylinder engine and a five-speed manual transmission. I miss the sport utilities of that generation. It was plenty big enough. Thank you.

Finally an honest review and no 0-60 race. This is a ones persons review and you don't like. He didn't knock the raptor or give it a bad review. He gave review on an overall truck, going to the store, driving in traffic and so on. The raptor may be able to jump higher and further than the Toyota, but Toyota's are solid and I will buy toyota with no hesitation based on quality and reliability. Wildman when you write a review like the one you posted you show everyone who you really are. People today are buying trucks based on fitting in with their friends have one. 2015 Baja 1000: TRD Pro team finished first among four teams with a time of 35:40:40.581 according to SCORE, the sanctioning body of the race. The Toyota Land Cruiser (200 series) team came in second with a time of 36:30:06.529. The other two teams driving a Ford F-150 Raptor SVT and a Hummer H1 didn't finish.

Great review! You covered all the bases very well with just the kind of information I was looking for. I'm more than happy if the TRD Pro can do most of what the Raptor can do, while it can best the Raptor in most real world, truck, day to day duties. Like you mentioned, a lift of just a couple inches with a better tire and wheel package and it would be perfect. If I want a hardcore rock crawler I'll build one and tow it easily with the TRD Pro. Never owned a Toyota before but I think this one will be my first. Something you didn't mention is Toyta trucks stellar reliability which Ford, Chevy and all the rest would do well to shoot for. Resale of toyota trucks is better than the competition as well.

Few weeks later another buddy of mine bought a 2015 4Runner SR5 with 4WD took it on the exact same roads/ trails that we made by just driving and the 4Runner took the trophy home. Quick summery from a non fanboy of either, Raptor for higher speed desert runs with some crawling. Power wagon for crawling and going thru more crap, as well as towing. Maybe a rescue vehicle, TRD Pro for a combination of all this with everyday usage. GM's for less off road more street usage or long distance driving, or just buy your brand of choice cause you can change and make any of these into the truck you need with money.

I used to be a die heart ford buyer 10 years ago. Nothing but ford trucks in my garage. Everything from the 150 to the 350 super duty diesel. Then Toyota came out with the tundra with the 5.7 liter motor. I got 1 in 08 and never purchased another truck. All those years I kept getting ford trucks every 3 years because they were crap. My tundra is 11 years old 180 k miles and runs better now than it did brand new. Looks brand new too. My old ass 1996 Toyota forerunner with 400,000 miles is still running as strong as it did when it was brand new. Toyota vehicles r built to last and run so well.

If you are looking for something that can tow more and is more streetable, then get an FX4 with the Ecoboost (or the same 6.2L you get in the Raptor). IF that is what your looking for it will easily out tow a tundra, and still beat it in a drag race. To say the Tundra is "better" on the road is splitting hairs because the Raptor still handles better than most vehicles on the street, but it is PURPOSE-built for offroading....so why is it really an accomplishment for Toyota's offroad offering to be better on the street?

I still miss my Tundra. I have a Wrangler right now. While I love the Wrangler, I miss the comfort of those big seats in the Tundra and the great throttle response. I have owned three chevy trucks with 5.3 liter. I liked the Tundra slightly more.

I heavily disagree on looks but the tundra seems like a work truck that can go off-road but the raptor is more of a drive it around work like a f-150 and race and ripe around in

yea, i agree. But look is more of a opinion.

Perfectly said. I personally think the Raptor looks awesome but fully loaded it is almost twice the price with subpar performance.

Drive the TRD on a high speed off-road section, like the Raptor / TRX and most likely you'd be left with broken shocks and a bent frame. Tundra TRD is not on the same level as these trucks.
@EzzyMo10 жыл бұрын
No denying the Tundra's ability. Good truck. However, it's playing catchup and Toyota won't allow it to become as interesting as the Raptor. The Tundra appears to be more like a regular issue truck with a few mods for off-roading. The Raptor seems a much more focused and complete vehicle.
@Olph110 жыл бұрын
If Toyota sucks so bad why does the U.S. special forces prefer using tacomas over anything the big 3 have to offer? Why does the U.N. and Golf war troops use land cruisers? Why do Arabs in Dubai use them as off road vehicles? Why is the value of my 2 year old 4runner better than anything comparible from ford? Because they're reliable, safe and have a helluva off road heritage. I've owned both ford and Toyota products and I can say with 100% certainty that ford sucks! Their suspensions squeak, rear ends droop, transmissions don't last and their customer service is horrendous. Ford builds it's crap in mexico while the Toyota is built in America. So stop being fan boys and wake up! Toyota will redesign the tundra for 2016 and offer a diesel engine while the "new" f150 just ads extra Sunday football commercials.

Great vid, having driven both trucks a lot, if I didn't need an everyday truck, I would choose the Raptor hands down. But I cant imagine the Raptor being my everyday driver. For me the tundra is a smarter buy.....but the Raptor! Such a sexy truck.

Toyota throws on upgraded springs and dampers, dual exhaust, and a new grille on an otherwise stock Tundra and we're comparing it to the Raptor? Like bringing a rubber chicken to a gun fight. And for all of those still mocking the F150: it's been the industry leader for 37 years. You don't get there by accident, and until the Tundra can prove it won't shake itself to pieces on a bumpy road, it'll continue to be mocked by those in the general public

You guys need to hire some one that knows how to drive, also a mechanic that can show you the real capabilities of the rigs. It's like watching old ladies reviewing MX bikes with a 10 year spread. If you consider this a "off road review" you don't put them into any real off road conditions, it's all dry and flat. What you need is wet slick conditions with bumps and hills, also places where you can really test the suspension of the rigs. The Raptor is built more for a desert style area with braking bumps and high speeds, not crawling and towing. It's built for more of a prerunner style of driving. The Trd is built around everything, a truck you can take into the forest and pull your boat. It would not be as comfortable at 65mph on whoops as the Raptor. Don't get me wrong both can do all the same stuff but your off road testing wasn't very extensive. Just driving slow over everything and telling us the specs of the truck is terrible when you are doing a off road review, i would like to see you bouncing around in the cab and really stressing everyone of the components. Motor, transmission, suspension, drive lines, cv axles at max turn, I mean you guys didn't show us anything we couldn't see by just looking at the trucks. Anyone that is going to actually spend this amount of cash on a truck for its "sport" capability will already know everything in your video. "Come on son." I guess for those guys making tons of money and just want a "cool" truck and can't choose because some minor thing like "does it bounce much when I drive slow over bumps" or "how does it feel in the city" this video may be great. But for those who really want the truck for a specific thing like high speed bumps, hard high speed cornering in dirt while in 4wd vs 2wd. How much bind the CV axles can take if your in a sticky situation or if it will over heat the transmission or motor on a hot day in dry sand. If your going to put this much effort into the videos may as well do it for those that want to spend their hard earned cash all the while increasing your chances of getting a lot more subscribers and views. "My opinion though, If you don't agree it doesn't bother me."

The raptor has never won the baha 1000 which is a real bench Mark and the Tundra has won serval times in fact then won in 2015.The Raptar in 2014 could not even finish the race because of break downs .And in 2015 they finished when the race was over most of the people when home.The Tundra won in 2014 also. You guys are two of the biggest idiots on you tube. The bench Mark in off road racing is Toyota assholes. Guys like you talking the b.s. gets people who know off road racing very upset .When people like you have no idea what you are talking about. Why didn't you mention all the bent frames on the Raptor when people used them off road . How much did Ford pay you to keep that out of your review. Off road is Toyota they have over 304 victories. And over 28 factory wins. In the most gouging races in the world. You really should look at the history of of the off road racing. Take two years off. And learn something and then put you show on . Maybe then you will be able to give a fair review . .

Bigger engine more torq is good for when your offroad.. You dont buy the Rapter to drive on the street.. They sale a 2 wheel drive F150 for that.. Smaller engine means less HP and less Torq that means it can NOT tow as much.. Just common sense.. This Toyota is just a lightly worked over Toyota pickup that is it.. I would rather get the Toyota SUV or small pickup than that over size underpower thing.. How much money did Toyota pay you to do this "commercial"?

***** Though the Rubi in the 2 door version is a great offroad vehicle once you stretch it to 4 doors you approaching the Rapter. The Rapter is more of a Pre-Runner like Baja1000 type thing. The Rubi is more a rock crawler or in the twisty trails.. I think the Rapter would do better in mud just for the fact of more HP and more Torq to spin the big tires. The down fall of the Rubi is the small 3.8L V6.. I know you can get aftermarket 5.7L Hemi for it. But then again you can get a Velocity Rapter from Hennesy Racing with 800Hp, or a Shelby or Roush Rapter. So. I think your right the Rubi would be a more practicle day2day driver. I got a Jeep Liby with the serioius 4x4 package not the entry level and I put some mild mods (headers, forced air induc, and chip) and its getting about 14mpg if you drive it NICE and it has Perelli Scorpion tires (mild 4x4). The Rubi has some agressive mud tires. Again pick your poison. The Rapter is just a big huge truck with lots of power, you dont have to drive it with finesse you can point and shoot the jeep you got to pick your route a bit more. If I had the money and wanted the best offroad capable and most civilized on road i would get a Range Rover.. But that is mega bucks..

TFL if you had to choose between an Ford Superduty or Ford Raptor what would you do? If you did not need to tow huge weight, the Raptor wins as it is big enough inside as long as your not super tall or obese. However the 6.7L fuel economy vs the 6.2L Gasser has me concerned that you will lose money with the Raptor in the long run. What would you have to say after driving in both for quite awhile now?

The Raptor IS a very useable everyday truck (even some better ON-road characteristics) . toYota has been copying F-150's since T-100 (been legally forced to change some things even)... And btw toYota had the same "to work with" whatever that excuse is suppose to mean ? Lol the dimensions and displacements aren't "all that different" because, toyota copies em all. lol it's a Japanese F-150 clone . Nothing comes close to a Raptor . And F-150 is better already.
