Here in Australia I've had the mid range model with 4WD for over a year now. My round trip to work is 100km every day with half through peak hour traffic and half on a motorway. On that commute in the summer I get an average of 82% electricity/battery use and 3.2 L/100k and in the winter 75% electricity/battery use and 3.5 L/100k. I once got 60 kms using only 2.8 Litres - that's getting close to a motorcycle! It's comfy and spacious - I frequently take 3 or 4 tourists on nature tours and it performs well and everyone's pretty comfy. When taking it out onto the outback roads it's still super economical, even loaded to the hilt and can take just about any road in Australia (bar some of the off roads in north Queensland). It does well off road around farms, so it's ideal for me when I go birding further afield. The rear door has never been a problem - including getting large Americans in. I give this car 5 stars for comfort, ease and pleasure to drive, economy and useable space. Definitely my best ever car purchase!
@anthonystevens86832 жыл бұрын
A great balanced review Nicola, and for the target market it really works but if that includes the installation of smaller versions of us those rear doors might prove to be an issue but on the plus side you are less likely to ding the car parked a little close to you. As a runabout with the odd longer journey it would be fine though if your not in a hurry and let's face it crowded roads along with some very careful drivers out on the lanes you may not have many opportunities to be in a hurry. I like it.

In other markets, there is a conventional ICE-only version of the Yaris Cross with a 1.5-litre three-cylinder petrol only, but that is not offered in the UK - most likely because there wouldn’t be enough demand for it in the UK and so wouldn’t sell as well as the hybrid. This was likely also the reason why Toyota discontinued the ICE-only 1.2-litre turbo version of the Corolla in the UK for 2020, leaving just the hybrid versions, and why the ICE-only 1.5 petrol version of the normal Yaris hatchback isn't sold in the UK.

It’s also probably because we like to just get a higher spec one on a monthly finance plan in the UK, in lesser developed countries like Greece a cheaper option is very much needed.

Just recently celebrated our 1st anniversary together, confirm this review broadly reflects my experiences. Sales guy said to expect 58 - 62 mpg, in cross town motoring, regularly achieves that, even in colder conditions, currently 70 - 78 mpg. My PB is 1,202 mpg on a 1.4 mile mostly flat trip but unlikely to repeat any time soon. The eCVT box is a pleasure to drive, although not quite as engagaging as my previous Audis, including the A3 V6 3.2 Quattro DSG nor the 8-spd Q2 1.5 TFSI with flappy paddles, that were great fun but now, shamefully, discontinued by Audi's Ingolstadt bean counters. 😤

@@nickhickson8738 Car is used every second day for mostly local journeys (< 10 miles, so mostly on EV - 60-75% of trip). Also garaged when not in use, which helps, as no need to defrost windows.. With winter approaching, there's higher demand on the ICE, with increased heating, demisting etc. Rarely use aircon, prefer fresh air, unless caught in congestion. I'm expecting at least 5 - 6 years from the 12v battery.

Whilst the tech, performance and economy (55.8 mpg over 110 miles of mixed urban, rural and motorway roads) was impressive, the wind and road noise, and indeed the ride, was much less so. I had high hopes for the Yaris Cross but after dropping it off and picking up my DS following it's service, sadly the Yaris will no longer be on a future shortlist as the DS, for a similar price, is streets ahead in the luxury car feel and build quality.
