I chose this over a Venza to be a little more economical for my first car haha for sure the Venza felt more posh but no regrets!

One comparison that is overlooked is the battery for the 1.6kWh battery: RAV4 XLE: NiMH battery (Nickel Metal Hydride) RAV4 XLE Premium: LION (Lithium Ion) Toyota does this in case the price of LION or NiMH rises/has a shortage so they can be prepared for those market shifts. Note: The battery is listed on Toyota’s website when you compare the trims under the “Full Specs” link. Please upvote!

@@AllAboutPurple now that the cost of Nickel is going to soar due to shortages, I’m assuming the market will shift to LION use for both the XLE/XLE Premium. In terms of “which is better”, there are videos that go over the pros and cons of each battery technology, and “better” depends on environmental conditions you live in (such as NiMH is better for colder climates), your driving style, etc.

I don't consider 18" wheels to be an upgrade from 17". They just increase the price of replacement tires and decrease sidewall and ride quality. Same goes for any plus sizing of rims/tires.

Thanks Jeff for comparing these two. I think there was a lot of really good info on both of these you gave us that I am sure most people would not know. I think if you can upgrade to the XSE I would go with that instead. I have the XSE and really like it a lot. I think you should do a video comparing the Rav4 Adventure and the Rav4 TRD and let us know what all the differences are between them and which one you should go with and why. To me it seems like the adventure model does not sell much and now that they have the TRD model makes more sense to me to have instead of the Adventure model. What are your thoughts on the Adventure compared to the TRD

so, if I understand it correctly, the summarized difference between these two (minus the packages) are: XLE - no moonroof, no powered tailgate, 17" wheels, fabric interior XLE Premium - moonroof, power tailgate, softx, 18" wheels personally, I think the XLE would be a better deal - not worth the price hike for some more sun in your car, softx & a powered tailgate. also 17" tires will be cheaper to replace. just my opinion, what do others here think?

My local dealership (Sacramento area) had an XLE Hybrid (NOT the premium) listed at $33,000K. PLUS, there was a dealer markup of....are you sitting down? Of $9,999.00. Really? I hope you did not pay the BIG BUCKS. Or, you may have purchased just the right time and where ever you are located. When things settle down (hopefully sooner than later) the XLE Hybrid just may be the auto I want (without the HUGE mark up). I don't need the auto lift gate, moon roof or the 18" wheels. I do not like paying for "things" I do not need. Enjoy your auto!

Good work Jeff.....however, try finding one of these without a high dealer mark-up. I will wait until the chip issue is solved so we can get back to some sort of norm. Toyota, like other manufacturers keeps those higher trimmed autos on the lot, not lower priced trim levels. I do not want to pay for something I do NOT want or need. I will be part of the general population that will wait the problems out before purchasing. Or, possibly go to another vehicle that may be #3 or #4 on my "want list"

Tough choice! I've always preferred cloth seats to leather (I'm in the vast minority on that, I know), so the XLE with the Convenience Package would probably be my choice. But that Weather Package on the Premium is a nice addition for sure! My wife would love the heated steering wheel. Thanks for a great comparison, Jeff! Our lease on my wife's 2018 RAV4 XLE ends in April, and we're trying to figure out what to do next. This and other videos of yours are very helpful!

We just got a 2021 XLE with the Convenience and Weather Package and it had the cross roof rails and it was listed at $32,060. I think we paid $30,800 But prices vary by area and dealers. I paused on this window sticker and Jeffs prices seem a bit high. They add TOYOGUARD for $699. That doesn't add up to me Toyota gives you service for 2 years on a new car so why this dealer is doing this I don't know. We actually got a 5 year service plan on ours so 3 extra years I think it was about $800.

The only thing I'd want that the XLE premium has and the regular XLE doesn't have is the SofTex seats. I don't want the leather wrapped steering wheel and shift knob, moonroof, or larger wheels. Power liftgate I could take it or leave it. Perfect RAV4 for me would be Hybrid XLE with no options but with SofTex seats, but they don't offer that configuration.

No, b/c usually, the SofTex seats are @ the XSE level and above, which is why I am getting the XLE Premium. The XLE Premium was only made for the 2021 year. The ‘22’s are out already & no XLE Premium in the lineup.

Convenience package on XLE is not important to ME...however, it should have 18" wheels not 17 and it should have soft tex seats. Wheel well space is too large as well. For $30K the XLE should have the features I mentioned.

@@deltadaun8300 No, it's not like all RAV4s come with it deactivated. The power liftgate function was already there on the car in the video, but only because that particular car had the XLE Convenience Package ($1,265.00) which includes the power liftgate and moonroof. (Note where he shows that option on the window sticker at 4:21 in the video.) He deactivated it using the deactivation switch on the dashboard (not shown in the video) that all Toyotas with power liftgates have. So it's a confusing and somewhat pointless demonstration for sure. The way he worded it just made it even more confusing.

Weird why they would put those there if you’re gonna have power lift, why have the option to turn it off and on? I guess that is case if you pay for- say, the all weather package, you can disable the other functions you don’t want, but you still pay for them, haha. I suppose I would have to special order my options if I don’t want a moonroof. That’s a video I would like to see- how to order your car with the options you want- and what options are factory and which are dealership level, and does it cost more to order. 🤔

@@deltadaun8300 Reason to deactivate... say for example, you're at the grocery store for curbside pickup with the hatch open... the employee is loading your groceries in the back and you want to be sure it won't start closing automatically while they are back there, let's say if the button got pressed accidentally. So you temporarily disable the power feature for safety reasons, and reactivate it after they are finished loading the groceries. Unfortunately, there is no way to special order the power liftgate as an "a la carte" option without the moonroof as the two features are bundled together in the Convenience Package and installed at the factory during assembly. And it's not available as a dealer installed or port installed option either. You would literally need to buy all the parts from Toyota (not cheap) and pay a mechanic a lot of money to custom install it.

*Question: Can drivers choose when to turn on/off the 4x4 feature?* Your answer will determine whether or not I choose to buy one from you, or from any other dealer. *Clarification:* I am 100% not interested in using up any battery power, *unnecessarily, on flat city streets, stop and go traffic, or in parking lots, in automatic 4x4 mode.* The Honda CRV Hybrid ruined the experience for me, of driving a 4x4 Hybrid SUV that is as dumb as dirt. Hopefully, Toyota can resolve this automatic 4x4 feature issue for every driver out there, and at least reprogram the cpu, if this is something that's automatic.. The hybrid part (battery) is supposed to run as efficiently as possible, allowing the driver to have at least some control (aka good judgement) as to whether or not the extra added power drain, is necessary. *4x4 on autopilot is a no win for anyone,* no matter how great the gas mileage is on a Hybrid SUV.

after all the videos of the Rav4 I have seen,I was ready to purchase the Rav4 so I went in to the dealer and test drove it and to my surprise,it was a terrible drive..the engine is severely underpowered and loud like its struggling for help..it is very noisy in the cabin and the car would squeak on turns..

I don't think the Canadian built ones are that bad but I really don't know. I would for sure prefer a J VIN RAV4 though.

Toyota full of BS .... my nearest dealer had 45 Rav4 Hybrid XLE, all stuffed with option pumped the price to $33K starting .... the XLE Premium with no drop option to $35K. This were nov 2020. best deal value is the XLE premium base, but dealer says ... had to wait for 5 months minimum

Price and extra features set aside.... I’d go with the Japanese built XLE over the Canadian XLE Premium. I’ve heard that the quality build and Japanese sourced parts are much better. What’s your take on that??

@@billjoang Absolutely! The build quality is always better on a Japanese built Toyota. I only buy Japanese built Toyota’s and I’m on my 5th. I just picked up a 2021 RAV4 Prime, built in Obu, Aichi, Japan. Assembled with precision, no panel gaps and the interior is perfect! Tesla should take note!
