Peter, this video takes me back in time. The very first valve cover gasket I ever changed was back in 1978. I was a Junior in High School (16 years old) and my Agriculture Teacher assisted me on changing the said gasket on my 1973 Datsun Lil' Hustler 1600 Truck. Looking back, it was a very easy job, but it was my first time to perform this task. My Teacher (Instructor) provided verbal instruction, but he made me do all the "hands on" work. He was a really cool teacher because he would provide us work credits and grades for these small projects. He went on to teach our entire class how to rebuild a small lawn mower engine. We gathered up 8 old lawn mowers. Then, as a class, we broke up into teams of 2 each. So, all the 2-man groups had a mower to rebuild. We had to buy the parts as students, but in the end we all sold our mowers, and we all made a small profit. We then donated our profits towards our Annual School Prom. All nice memories!

Reading this gave me a chuckle "1973 Datsun Lil' Hustler 1600 Truck", I still miss my 1988 Nissan truck.

Dad taught me a lot! I’ve been doing most of my mechanican work since I was 16 and I’m 63 now! The money goes as good in my pocket as it does in dealers!! You’re number one in my book Mr. Toyota maintenance I enjoy your videos and your customers are so lucky to have a trusted mechanic because you would never do anything that was slipshod or hurry Or leave anything that shouldn’t be! Big big thumbs up!

And what an elegant valve cover it is - it's quite endearing with the engine model number stamped on the front.

These trucks could run and run and run...if you change the oil regularly. I had one that I sold about 5 years ago with 265,000 miles and the Toyota Mechanic I sold it to, is still driving it.

Is there 1 half moon in front & back? What are they called? Where can I get them....... If you press on rubberized part in front it is gooey drips there, so I put Permatex black sealant around it today. On my 20R engine Toyota pick up Chinnok has front moon leak, no leak on rest of gasket. O'REILLY'S said use STOP LEAK LUBEGARD. BARS ENGINE BURNING OIL STOP LEAK says theirs is BEST! Put in oil like when U add oil if low on dip stick. Idle or drive 15-30 minutes..... BEST after 200 miles seals leak.

after i adjusted the valves on me 87 truck with the 22r, i did not notice the half moon plug had fallen out the back of the head. i discovered the problem, after driving the truck. after losing a lot of oil, i called a friend, to bring me a new plug, and some oil. l fixed in a parking lot.

A question for you since you have probably done more valve adjustment than I have. After the engine is warmed up, how long do you wait for the engine to cool to make the valve adjustments? Thks..jc

Hi Peter... Would you have access to the torque spec for harmonic balancer (crankshaft pulley) bolt on 2019+ Corolla Hatchback (2020+ Corolla Sedan) with 2.0L M20A-FKS engine?

These engines only needed metal timing guides from factory and they would run forever.

Petr, It is funny you should share this simple 30 year OLD truck with us today. On a 'foreign' KZbin channel I was just looking at a simple NEW, single cab Hilux with the 2.7 engine and 5 speed manual.

The biggest problem we have with our east coast cars, is the degradation of plastic parts and pieces as they become brittle , so time is our enemy.
