Can the units operate during power failure? Do they make a backup battery?
@MrJesse34342 жыл бұрын
Jon - great question! Toyotomi units run on 120 Volts AC, 60 Hz which is what most standard houses have in their walls. There are two wattage numbers for when it is running - Preheat which uses 240 Watts and burning which uses 48 Watts. This is very little electricity. It could definitely be ran for some time on a battery backup (maybe 1-2 hours of continuous use for a standard 900 watt UPS device). If you have a generator, even a small suitcase generator you could run this device indefinitely. Hope this helps!

Thanks for the reply. I must add that I have two, 40 yr old KeroSun heaters I’ve used as backups, and they still work perfectly. I like that Toyotomi is now going the direct vent route that’s much cleaner.

I have a 600 sq ft 104 year old log cabin. Current direct vent Empire freestanding propane heater is vented out the top of the cabin. Can I vent this out the roof too? It's a lofted ceiling, approx 12' ceiling.
@KPMExceptionalАй бұрын
The Toyotomi heaters do have a flue extension available, which would allow you to bring the stack very close to the ceiling, but will have to vent sideways through the wall. I recommend contacting your local dealer, they may have a better solution.

My parents had one these types of heaters manufactured by Monitor which ran on kerosene which has continually gone up in price,you may be better off getting a propane heater. For the cost of one of these big vented heaters you can get a wall mounted propane heater and 79 refills of a 40 pound propane tank.

Actually, Monitor is out of business now, and parts are almost impossible to find. Toyotomi is offering a deal for those who have a monitor heater and want to purchase a new Toyotomi Laser heater. That all depends on where you live. Propane is an unregulated commodity. It varies in price around the country. I've seen it in the mid west for a little over a dollar a gallon, but in Alaska it can run five dollars and up. I converted from Propane to Toyo stoves and have saved a bundle over the past two winters.

I am looking to replace our Monitor 2200 with a Toyotomi 530. Will the vent pipe line up with the existing hole in the wall?
@KPMExceptional3 жыл бұрын
Jim we are just seeing your comment now. We hope to have an answer today for you! Thanks for commenting.

The size of the exhaust hole running outside is the same between a Toyotomi and Monitor so no need to drill a new hole. However there have been many changes over the years to the heaters and the exhaust line from the heaters may not be the same. Toyotomi makes a flexible exhaust line as an accessory in case you need to change the heights between units.

@@KPMExceptionalthanks for the response. The 731/732 will replace our old monitor 441 and to use that same hole in the wall for the vent. I’ll have to turn the flue pipe to have the exhaust and L shape pipe lay horizontal. I will cap the bottom intake and use the top intake. From the technical, side I see no issue as venting directly through is also an option. The laser 30 model has this layout as standard in their manual online. Figure 10 and 11. Many customers directly replace Monitor units with the Toyotomi unit so installation should be very simple!

I have a Monitor that runs on kero. The Toyotomi will run on kero or heating oil? Is there any advantage to continue using kero, or can I switch over to oil which is generally cheaper.
@KPMExceptional3 жыл бұрын
The Toyotomi unit will run on either fuel as long as the heating oil is ultra low sulphur (less than 15ppm). A lot of states have already mandated that for their heating oil. Monitors were good units but they are no longer being sold and parts are getting harder to find. We’re confident you will be happy with a Toyotomi unit if you decide to switch!

Can you install on an inside wall and vent into crawl space and on out the outside of foundation?
@KPMExceptional2 жыл бұрын
You can definitely install the heater on an inside wall. Toyotomi sells vent kits, extension tubes, and elbows to run to an outside wall. We would NOT recommend venting into a crawl space - its best for the vent to be fully outside, both for intake and exhaust purposes. Here is a link to the Laser 531/532 owner's manual (the middle size heater). It shows 10 feet as the max vent pipe run with up to 3 bends. It also has an installation section that goes into greater detail towards the end of the manual. toyotomiusa.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/09/Laser-531-and-532_Type-AEnglish.pdf Thanks for your question!
