My temperatures got to 255 and I started to freak out I got the "engine too hot ac turned off" message after that I pulled off to the side turned it off and towed it back to a shop they told me my radiator had a fat crack in the plastic piece and yes my coolant level was basically empty in the tank after they tried charging me 1350 for labor lol I decided to do it myself and I did now she is working good with temps staying around 194-212 at most since I'm in AZ and its like over 100 still rn and it wasn't too bad replacing the radiator but i also cleaned the ac condenser without damaging it since it had some debris.

I’m changing my water pump on my 07 C6 Base. I thought might as well change the thermostat while I’m there. Cali weather, street driven. Suggestions on brands or if you can provide a link? Thanks 🙏🏼

I know on the c6 Z06 many people suffer from the dreaded cooling fan melted plug, especially people who had modified their engines. What a lot do is have their fans reprogrammed so that they can only run no higher than 88% any higher for an extended period of time and the connector melts.

One issue I have had, if you live somewhere where your car may see occasional gravel I have had rocks some how get flicked in the fan shroud and jam my fan causing it to not run and cause an overheat at slow speeds.
@Toys4Life5 ай бұрын
I feel like that would be serious off-road endeavor or one heck of a fluke to make that happen?
@trentlewis14735 ай бұрын
@@Toys4Life Surprisingly no, I live 3 miles from a paved road. Every winter before storage I remove the fan and dump out a few rocks. How do they get in is beyond me, but it yet it every time I find rocks...

My wife is looking for new headlights for her c6. what are the headlights you have on yours? Is there a video to showcase the functionality of them?

I have the morimoto headlights, they came with the car but they are absolutely fantastic at night time and I think they look pretty modern. I do not have a video on it though unfortunately.

Maybe you can help. My son has a 97 Pontiac Grand Prix with the 3.8 engine. Someone decided to replace one of the vacuum fittings from the throttle body and put a screw in place. Is that fitting pressed in and can that be purchased or do I need to get a throttle body. Thanks, I know it’s not a Vette but you have a Pontiac 😅

I believe pressed in. TBs are cheap on ebay I believe.

Greetings, Factory computer shuts the engine off at 265 degrees. That is too hot according to the factory. The engines are made to run "hot" for emissions and fuel economy. Nothing wrong with wanting to cool things down for performance...Wand car washes work well for cleaning the condenser/radiators. Regards, Good vid.

I have a 2012 grandsport my oil temps sit around 225 to 245 once fully warmed up only gets above 240 if I do multiple pulls back to back but my coolant sits around 205 ,210 and my trans temp will be around 205 to 215 probably 230 is the highest I’ve seen it go after really giving it some gas is that a good range ?? Or should Invest in a trans cooler ? It is fully built ported cylinder heads ,ported throttle/intake ,ported cam , gots headers , x pipe and stage 3 cam
@Toys4Life2 ай бұрын
IMO that is close. If it gets over 220f often, I would install a trans cooler.

Sounds like your fans aren't working. Exactly what do you mean by overheating. Spewing out fluid, reaching a certain temperature?
@Ignaciomdzp11 күн бұрын
@@Toys4Lifethis is exactly what’s happening to my 07 z51 I just replaced the water pump and thermostat about 4 months ago and it started to overheat again when I’m at idle but cools down when I drive and got to the point where it spewed out all the coolant. Is it my fans not turning on?

The coefficient of expansion on the metals used on the ls2 and ls3 corvette engines is WAY WAY different than the old school muscle cars of old using cast block 350s ect. The Chevy engineers actually designed these engines to run hotter than what an old school guy would expect. It is all math and metallurgy calculations based on the materials used. A c6 running in the 220-230F range is NOT an issue. It is actually more efficient there fuel wise. So much ado about nothing when it comes to c6 temps.
@Teramydog6 ай бұрын
@@Toys4Life Oh I know you know this - I am responding to some of the old school comments. They think anything over 190 is too hot. Ridiculous.

What about if you have a c6 with a a&a blower , stage 4 cam , Dewitt’s radiator and fan and it’s still hitting high temps ? What then ?
@Toys4Life6 ай бұрын
Well, if you're just driving down the road not at wide open throttle like on a racetrack long course, then you've got a problem somewhere. Engine's only produce a ton of heat when they're making a bunch of horsepower.
@ssoffshore51116 ай бұрын
The IC adds additional restriction and heat . Coupled with marginal frontal air inlet area from the factory design, it makes things tough. Check to make sure your fans are kicking on early/high enough as mentioned here, and make sure the system doesn't have any air bubbles!

What are your thoughts on, I think they are called water wetters, specifically DEI's Radiator relief in a c6 LS2 with stock tune and street driven?
@Toys4Life5 ай бұрын
The science sounds promising - but I have looked into them a few times & always leave unconvinced they do much in a street car with regular 50/50 coolant mix. I have never done any testing of my own though.

The stock c6 radiator are junk one core with plastic ends I put a Dewitt’s radiator in my z06 and it runs 20 degrees cooler!!!
@Toys4Life6 ай бұрын
I wouldn't say the stock ones are junk for a good part of the country (okay, maybe not the southwest USA), but the DeWits ones are obviously way better. Those things are pretty spendy though, better be sitting down are the credit card bill comes!
@srmurc6zo66 ай бұрын
I live in the Southwest and have never seen even a moderately modded C6 have an issue with a stock radiator. The c6 Zr1 has an all aluminum unit that is a step up from the others. The rest get a plastic tank/aluminum core unit that flows and cools well. The 05 and 06 Z51 radiators have both internal oil and trans coolera (even on the manual trans - they have a pump) which helps not only keep the fluids cool in summer, it helps warm things up during winter driving.
@ssoffshore51116 ай бұрын
@@Toys4Life I recall seeing others on ebay for a lot less $. Anything is an improvement over the stock junk.
