Transformers generation one very rare Optimus prime variant. G1 vintage error box light blue parts

Here’s a look at a very special vintage generation one Optimus prime figure. This is known to be a very early release of this figure due to the things I’ll show you in this video.
The box has 2 differences. One is the error and the second it the TM and not the R.
The other is all the trailer and roller parts are a much lighter blue, just like the original diaclone release.

I believe the 25th anniversary Optimus (released in 2008 and came with a DVD and Comic) also used the light blue parts. But in that instance it also had a lighter gray trailer and even Optimus's hands and legs were the lighter blue to match everything. It had short stacks but even still I think that variation is my favorite version of the G1 Optimus just because I think the colors look more "cartoon-y"

You’re correct that re issue did come with light blue parts. I haven’t got any of the re issues. Ran out of space.

Ok this explains a lot. Thank you. I think several of my friends must have got Optimus Prime in 1985, because the always had the lighter blue accessories. Years later when I got the commemorative series version in 2002, I thought the blue was too dark, but it actually was correct.

If they got him in 1985 they wouldn’t have had the light blue parts. This is a very early 84 first release. It’s also a different blue to the 2002 re issue.

Great video, i love learning about all this amazing variety in the early transformers / diaclone figures. Tells quite the story of just how long it took Hasbro to make this new diaclone brand their own. Quite a few of these very early transformers went through several modifications with each release. But you'd probably never notice till they were pointed out. Great stuff.

Hey Russ, great review as always. One of the other differences i noticed with the error box is the lack of white borders on the three pictures of Prime. For a long time, I thought that was the error and not the satellite dish. 😂

I’ve often toyed with that idea. But I don’t really want to and can’t really afford to go down the diaclone path. I have a couple that I just ended up with. Apart from red tracks. So I’m happy with that.

It depends on where you are in the world as in some countries they’re rarer. If it definitely has the light blue parts and is original. Check ebay for previously sold items.
