Great real time comparisons. It would have been great if you could have had an anemometer displaying the actual wind speeds alongside the power generation.
@ToysforWatts2 жыл бұрын
I would love to be able to do a complete data log but I simply can't afford the equipment that would be required :/...right now if I included an anemometer I could only say "XXX turbine made this much power over the last 60 minutes and the wind is blowing YYmph right now"...which wouldn't be very helpful. I hope some day I can get get a rig that can actually datalog not only wind speed but also my total system output.

There is a surprising difference in output of the heli 2.0 and the I2000. If they are both 2Kw I would of expected the to be closer together. Still good numbers for that time period.
@ToysforWatts2 жыл бұрын
It can be a little misleading because they're both 2kw models...but the Heli and i2000 are VERY different. The Heli is a much bigger, much more powerful turbine and the powerband is more of an aggressive arc as it speeds up, the i2000's powerband is more linear. They'll both hit that 2kw around the 28mph area, but at about 15~20mph the Heli will be making 1200w while the i2000 will be making 800w. Since most of the time is spent at lower wind speeds the Heli nets more power.

Great video Justin. I would love to see a video on the differences between 3 and 5 blade turbines. What the pros and cons are. What are your thoughts on that?
@ToysforWatts Жыл бұрын
It's hard to do a proper comparison because in order to show real world results you have to have two turbines of identical specs at the same height in the same wind at the same time and that kind of thing tends to be tricky to pull off. The right number of blades depends a lot on the turbine. With very few exceptions micro turbines require high RPM to produce usable power, and to have high RPM you need a lightweight rotor. The heavier your rotor is the more parasitic it is....meaning it has more inertia and takes more of the wind's power to turn. More blades is more weight, but has the potential to harvest more of the wind's power in a swept area at lower wind speeds. If you take a rotor with three blades and a rotor with six blades, if all other aspects remain the same then the six blade rotor will start spinning in lower wind but will never be able to reach the speeds the three blade rotor will reach. The whole thing is a balancing act.

Even if i manage to get 50% of the advertised output is it worth installing the Tesup (or any other brand you recommend) without investing in batteries? (Additional set up cost v value for money) 2. Thanks for sharing, it's very useful. I have 2 questions, how many watts do you get on Heli when low wind 7 to 10 mph? and how many hours it takes to charge 20% of 4 GEL battries 48V (4 X 12V - 225AH) at low wind (7-10 mph)?
@ToysforWatts2 жыл бұрын
That's actually a really hard question to answer...I'm having to do a LOT of speculating because our wind here tends to be go all out or not at all. It generally takes a little bit of a gust just to get the turbine going so you have to have that at the beginning...it's going to have a REALLY tough time starting up at only 7mph...but once going it'll idle along at those speeds without any issue. Right now our wind is only moving about 10mph and it was making between 200 and 300 watts...guessing on the low side we'll say 200w. I'm assuming your 225ah is TOTAL and is already accounting for the fact that you can only get about 50% of the rated amp hours out of a lead acid battery and that you're charging from an "empty" state. So that gives you a capacity of 900w. From there it's a matter of dividing capacity by output...so 900/200. That'd give you 4.5 hours to fully charge assuming you're averaging 200w.
@andreblanchard83152 жыл бұрын
You seem to have problems stalling, like the generator output is not matched to the load. My old whisper 1000 can be rewired for 12, 24, or 48 volt systems by different series/parallel combinations of the coils. I think there is also some wierd setup for 36 volts. If that was a grid tied inverter, just get the 1000 or 1400 watt ones, they're only about $135 each, so multiple small ones are way cheaper than one big one. And then you'll have redundancy.

The placement for a few of the turbine looks far worse than the others, i think that comparing them is not really fair when they are not at the same heights and distance from buildings and trees that makes turbulence in the air. I really like your videos tho :) I have always been interested in making my own electricity. I live in Norway and i am looking to buy a house/homestead on the western side of Norway where there is alot of wind out by the sea.
@ToysforWatts2 жыл бұрын
You are right that they do not all get great air all of the time, but the three important ones (the Heli, i2000, and washer motor) all get good wind unless it's due north/south...which is uncommon and has a fairly marginal effect between the Heli and i2000 (a north or south wind puts one in the prop wash of the other). However, when I was logging the outputs of the Heli vs the i1500 their totals were still within the same ratios so I think the overall effect isn't reduced much. All of them should be higher but I have some height limitations I'm forced to deal with.

What do you think about changing the blades on the i500 and The Missouri wind and see if the performance gets better or not, I do think the i 500 should be up higher with better blades
@ToysforWatts2 жыл бұрын
I actually did try different blades on the i500 without a lot of change in performance. Ultimately what it needs is height and cleaner air. If it can maintain RPM it actually makes a lot of power, but it just can't get that kind of wind in its current location. I think the Missouri turbine could probably perform a little better with only three blades, but not enough to make it competitive with other turbines in it's price bracket. The $300 delco clones on eBay are mechanically identical.

Do you have a explanation, why the I2000 only produce 75% of the Heli, they are the same size😳?
@ToysforWatts2 жыл бұрын
It's misleading because they are both 2000w rated machines, but the Heli 2.0 is about twice the size as the i2000. It is about as big as it gets in terms of micro wind turbines. It caps out at just over 2500w in really strong wind, but it's making a lot of it's power in lower wind at much lower RPM. Essentially, they are rated at the same peak outputs, but the Heli spends more time producing power.
