I thought it was supposed to get 300 Mbps

I don’t get 300Mbps because I am quite far away from the access point in the house.

300Mbps is the theoretical speed of the 802.11n WiFi, but be aware that the ethernet port on this device is plain 100Mbps so using it you can get 90Mbps at max. Maybe 300Mbps is achievable when you use it as a wireless bridge (repeater)
