I love that juicy and chewy tones you get out of that P90 and the Golden Fleece Mick, that is an inspirational sound, and nice playing to bring it out. You had a similar tone when playing around with you p90's in your PRS Gold top style guitar, I am not normally a fan of the PRS double cuts, but that video you did with it made it hard not to like that guitar, you made it come to life.

So happy to see the Golden Fleece finally get a play on here, I've been obsessed with it since I first heard it. Similarly have the same feeling with the Broadcast & hearing you guys say they're similar is encouraging and has made me question whether I need both (definitely want both). Odd though that the Fleece was overshadowed a bit by a 'normal' overdrive in the Hamstead what a glorious racket that thing makes. The list just keeps getting longer!

That Hampstead is outstanding, such an amazing range of tones. The Golden Fleece is superb too, for a one knob pedal. I've just bought the Thorpy Muffroom Cloud to be able to shape my tone with the fuzz, but it sounds like Mythos have just nailed it with their one!
@ElPedro2127 жыл бұрын
I keep meaning to ask you guys, but I wanted to throw out one episode idea. Maybe there's not enough there, but hey, maybe there is... What about an episode on pedals that straddle the line between overdrive and fuzz? I've been keeping a list, and mine as of now is: JHS Kilt, Analog Man Astro Tone, T-Rex Mudhoney, Keeley Germanium Super Phat Mod, Small Sound Big Sound F*ck Overdrive, Small Sound Big Sound Pretty Years, Hudson Broadcast, Foxrox Zim, Wampler Velvet Fuzz, JHS Color Box, Black Arts Toneworks Pharaoh Fuzz. And then after today I added the Hamstead and the Mythos. Basic context for me personally is that I don't like most amps' overdrives (I'll see myself out), I don't like what I feel like are most overdrives that try to sound like those amps, and kind of the way you guys talk about the Broadcast, to me this a class that might work well for people (like me) who don't like traditional overdrives.

Awesome. If you guys are looking for a short list of stuff you haven't featured, I'd vote Analog Man Astro Tone and Small Sound Big Sound F*ck Overdrive. Thanks!
@GitShiddy7 жыл бұрын
They do touch on this topic, though with less pedals, in the Alternative to Normal Overdrives video. I'm of a similar mindset it seems and that's a video I constantly go back to for the tones.
@ElPedro2127 жыл бұрын
Totally. Watching that and the T-Rex I was thinking I really just wanted to see more of the fuzzy OD's
@michaelkay6117 жыл бұрын
Excellent suggestion. Other than trying to keep this a family channel, I cannot agree more with checking out the smallsound/bigsound F*ck Overdrive, which is one of the most original pedals out there. I have one on my board and it serves beautifully as an always-on low gain drive that can be stacked, as a fuzz-like lead tone generator, and as a tool for creating weird broken soundscapes with the envelope controlled voltage modification. In a band situation, I've found the blown-out amp crackle sound can sometimes be hard to hear in the mix when used heavily. Most recently, though, I've been using this pedal at pretty high gain for fuzz/distortion lead tones, with the crackle on just a little bit, and it's just a fantastic sound. The little bit of crackle is something felt more than heard, kind of compression-like, and it's glorious. It's an ingenious design in my opinion. Brian Hamilton, the builder, has other very cool stuff and also plays keyboards in Cymbals Eat Guitars, a most excellent band.

Great episode, now I want all 4! Lo-Fi Loop Junky looks and sounds like something that Mac Demarco would enjoy using :D
@RobFlaxMusic7 жыл бұрын
Side note about the Lo Fi Loop Junky: I lost my mind when I learned there's an "Instant Lo-Fi Junky" which has the modulation circuit and a super squashy compressor, instead of the looper! Works marvelously as a weird lo-fi chorus/compressor pedal when you blend half and half "clean" and modulated tone (learned that watching your show!). Seriously, check it out if you haven't. It's incredible (though, again, that hiss is a prominent sound... it's in no way clean).

Ordering a hamstead :) I have a pettyjohn chime at the moment I’m using for this purpose, after my king of tone. I had guessed correctly that the teased new Hamstead pedal was going to be an overdrive, but I couldn't have imagined something as awesome as what they came up with. Baxandall tone stack that you can place pre or post gain, three different types of overdrive, and three different gain ranges, plus it sounds amazing, as one would expect from Hamstead.

Zvex and experimental pedals! Just as you promised... You are men of your word! Thank you! I love traditional blues and rock guitar but I would love to see more of this type of experimental sonic alchemy featured along side the more conventional stuff! Thank you again, I love the channel! You know in a day and age where real instruments are being swapped out for sample library's and synth, guitars (and analog effect pedals) ability to generate crazy texture like a synth, but still sound organic and alive, has kept guitar relevant in modern production. They might not be front and center like they used to be, but they are still there! I come from the world of film composition, where speed and budget factor into just about every decision... And I use guitar textures on just about everything... Even orchestral stuff. In fact there is a great video with a film composer that goes by the name "Junkie XL" (a "disciple" of Hanz Zimmer... Himself no stranger to guitar and pedals) where he, a heavily electronic musician with walls and walls of 50k $ vintage Moogs and other Analog synths, will still bust out 30 analog effects pedals and the guitar to add textures to his film scores!!! For those who scoff at ring modulators and the like as gimmicky, they might be the reason electric guitar survives as a vital and important force as modern music production become more and electronic. Hear that Dan and Mick? The humble guitar pedal will save the guitar from becoming a relic of a bygone era! That make You guys like the European monks who copied and translated ancient Latin scrolls, so the works of Pythagorus and Plato survived the dark ages! You are the guitar equivalent of torchbearers of Civilization is all I'm saying 😉😎

That Hamstead Oddysey is pretty awesome. You guys should realllly do a video on the Truetone (previously Visual Sound) VS-XO dual overdrive! Another really cool pedal that I've heard a ton about that is similar to that Hamstead where you can use it as boost or drive and switch the order of the two as well as the clipping and level of bass. But you can ALSO dial in the level of clean or overdriven signal you'd like to hear. Would love it if you guys could include this in one of your videos!
@ElPedro2126 жыл бұрын
Hey guys, one observation in case it raises a consideration for you. For whatever reason, I've found that the Mythos Golden Fleece and Earthquaker Cloven Hoof both have more clarity when I play them live that I heard when you had each of them on. @GitShiddy7 жыл бұрын
By the way Mythos Pedals use numerous mythologies as there nomenclature. The Mjolnir is Norse, Thor's Hammer (Yes even in those movies) Golden Fleece, Herculean the upcoming Titan all Greek, Chupacabra is Mexican Bigfoot basically and there other pedals are something I don't know. It's really good brand identity. Don't know why the Joey Landreth Mjolnir didn't get a Canadian myth name though, like Wendigo, Yeti, Maple Syrup Margaret, Anne of Green Gables or Dudley Do-Right. ;-)
