Hey guys - hope you're all well and had a good summer? So sorry for being absent from KZbin for so long - I've been on tour with Martin Miller since June and we're still not done for 2024. Off to South America for two weeks from November 8th, but I had some free time last week and shot a few vids to upload while I'm away. Here's the first - hope you enjoy it and remember, I'm offering $50 off my Ultimate Fretboard Visualization Course for a limited time using the code 'TQM250' - you can check it out here: - bit.ly/42Wwwbo

Really funny haha But than youre goal is the Inspiration and vocabulary now. Im on the Same way. So you Not alone. But it makes from time to time more Fun and I love to practise this Improvisation skills. It is really a gamechanging App to make a good start in this area of this King Disziplin of Guitarplaying.

Recommend the course? Or one can reach great interval domain with the App only?
@papaaemeritus88132 ай бұрын
@@adrian1072 Yeah, would recommend the course 100%. It goes through each interval, teaches them in the contexts of arpeggios and scales, has guided practice stuff, and a lot of example licks. You should be able to construct scales on the fly once you practice the material in the course. I have v1 of the app as well, but have not used it as much, it is more for hands on practice once you have the intervals down.
@adrian10722 ай бұрын
@@papaaemeritus8813 That's exactly what I needed to know about: how dependent the course and the App are to each other. So, you consider the course is - by itself, as a standalone course - an excellent investment right? And the App (which I own, ver 2.1.0 but did not srtart to use yet) may come as an enhancer as I progress. obs: I guess you can upgrade your version for free.

I really needed this! Right at the beginning when you said “some players struggle with getting lost playing legato, not harmonically but rhythmically,” I enthusiastically raised my hand! Once I get lost I’ll tend to just speed up and play too fast since the muscle memory is there, which only makes things worse when I end the phrase and have no idea where I am rhythmically. Looking forward to practicing this!
@gitarmats2 ай бұрын
Great exercise. I had an additional idea when playing around with this. If you apply this to a chord change like V7 to im for example, with the last note landing on the second chord, I think this can be really good for just improvising through changes as well. This way you can work on aiming at hitting chord tones, starting from different places in the bar in a very effective way. I'm gonna try this out for a while! Thanks, Tom!

Tom when you will update solo for android users we are waiting for that ios is update for free and android? We are thousands .
@greblus2 күн бұрын
I'd pay second time for Solo 2.0 for Android if it was built from the same codebase on all platforms. Solo is an amazing tool and I hope it will stay with us forever. A PC version would be great for long term preservation of this amazing project. I ❤ the minimalistic UI and how it allows to concentrate on the purpose of this app. One future improvement I hope to see one day is a polyphonic notes recognition (if you leave the note unmuted, especially in lower octaves, Solo won't recognise the next note). More advanced note recognition could be also used for a chords trainer, which'd be a killer feature with current library of jazz standards you already have 😊

Thank you. I love the term ' rhythmic cell'. Spent 40 years playing guitar, campfire songs etc and thought I was good, only entertainment value for drunk friends(no insult intended) but only recently during my retirement I decided to focus on rhythm, beats etc. Now that's truly music because songs sounded that much better. Thank you once again for your encouragement.

Great lesson, Tom; simple, easy to digest snippets that can be chained together; really nice. The only criticism, is that when you’re doing closeups on the fingerboard, we can’t see what your pick is doing. I know the up strokes and down strokes and sweeping vary with the particular phrase, but it would be nice to see how the left and right hand coordinate. Thanks for the great lesson!

I just have all of your instructional materials. For me, you are the best teacher in the world. Your fretboard visualization courses (2 courses from you website and the latest one with David Bebe) are the "real secret" to make anyone to be able to improvise through changes freely and can 100% control over every intervals to play against chord. It's the real secret that no one teach before. (Every guitar teachers let we practice arpeggios through changes and hope someday only the ones who have talent from god will be able to control every intervals to play through complex changes spontaneously by practice that large arpeggios/scales shapes and licks😂). The legacy you left to this world is the most valuable that will be beneficial to all guitarist and will make the standard of guitar playing much higher because now everyone know the true way to practice improvising. You are very generous to reveal the secret that all world class Jazz ,Fusion players don't wanna tell anyone. Thanks a lot Tom.

@@tomquayleguitar Thanks for replying. I would have a second question which is: I purchased the latest version of Solo (never used though). I understand the Visualization Course does not "require" the use of the App NECESSARILY, although I can use it as the tool to maybe a faster and more effectice development, right? Thanks again Adrian

I actually prefer the sound of the broken lines, to the continuous ones. It's a good exercise for phrasing, even between faster lines, just need to mix'n'match the various groupings so it doesn't also get time-predictable.

Tom, sorry if the question is not related to the video, but you're the guy to ask. I've started playing the guitar just a month ago as an adult beginner, but I'm playing the bass for 3 years now. To me, the tuning of the guitar really makes no sense compared to 4ths tuning on my bass. I am mainly interested in improv, jazz fusion and (death) metal. My question is, should I simply start playing in 4ths from the beginning? I really have zero desire to learn a single chord multiple times and open chords aren't really interesting to me. I'm afraid that it's going to limit the amount of songs that I can practice... What's your opinion? Thank you.

That letter is used in several languages and changes the pronunciation quite a bit (as I'm sure you know). I guess it could just be a graphic gimmic to you, or do you want us to pronounce it with the 'ø'? Anyway, great lesson once again.
