thanks,as a Romanian , I irc these were meant as both a stop-gap measure and a way for the large(at the time) Romanian Arms industry to cut their teeth on larger more complex machines (than the tab/btr(modifications)., A modern tank was already in the works in the mid 80s,(plus better relations with the ussr in the late 80s). I think a solution for mass production would have been to move the manufacture in the large tractor and construction equipment plants in Brasov and elsewhere,but that would mean reducing the tractor outputs,which were very much needed both on the domestic market and the export one.

Absolutely the most handsome and also likely the most capable T-55 variant in the world. I dont know what it is about seeing the M60 and T-55 being upgraded as much as humanly possible to stay relevant appeals to me so much. like a M60 with a 120mm is just *chefs kiss* besides the reduced ammunition capacity. Both would certainly be outmatched if met with a modern counterpart on the battlefield, but in the case of Cyprus, seeing these go up against modernized Turkish M60/M48's would be very intriguing. Hypothetically speaking, of course. I will always prefer peace to getting to see these be used in actual combat. Great video as always.

I wouldn't say that it's the best of the T-55 derivatives. Look at the Type 59G Duroy Mk.II in Bangladesh. It mates a ZTZ-96A turret to a Type 59 hull and also increases hull protection with modern ERA and possibly some composite laminates. It's got better firepower, protection, and electronics than the TR-85 while having the same mobility at 60 km/h.

@@Uzishan TR-85M1 still lacks in crucial modern features and its ERA coverage is really bad. The gun is vastly inferior, the mobility is the same, the protection is vastly inferior, the FCS is outdated, there's no commander's independent thermals (on either vehicle, though I initially misinterpreted info that the Duroy Mk. II had one), the Mk. II is about 8 tons lighter. The most important thing that keeps the Mk. II superior to the 85M1 and somewhat capable in modern warfare is the potency of the ammunition it is capable of firing paired with a modern 4th gen FCS.

Those Abrams and Leopard I suspect would be some of the last ones Poland would operate as they’ll probably acquire rights to produce K2 MBT domestically. South Korea deliver equipment faster than Germany and the US does, so they’re very appealing to customers who need tanks as fast as possible and to be able to produce licensed equipment themselves.

It is rumored however we will get both. The abrams will be used as the breakthrough force since they are a lot heavier and the K2's are used more in a support/flanking/mobility role since they are considerably lighter

The TR-85M1 does not have hunter killer capability. Hunter killer means that the commander can override the turret with his own sight(CITV). Although the commander does have access to the gunners sight he still has to access it first and override the turret with his controls, it doesn’t even have limited hunter killer capabilities because the commander doesn’t really have any panoramic sight except the one that is installed on the T-55 commanders cupola which is not panoramic and can’t override the turret.

You have a much more optimistic and positive view of this tank than I do. As a Romanian, I can only see the scarcity of the communist regime, the difficulties involved in its design and manufacturing, the suboptimal paths taken due to autarky. It's such a Frankenstein's monster to me: T-55 chassis, Leo 1 engine, French fire control, a pretty anemic, locally produced, rifled gun, that fires Israeli rounds. The T-72 isn't some world beater, as we've seen in Ukraine, but I'd rather be sat in one of those than one of these.

Good for the 60's! Today even the mighty Leopard 2 A6 is already obsolete due to drone attacks! Today the TR 85 M1 Bison(the modernized version) is efficient only against IFVs or to ambush a tank from the side or from behind! We need something similar to Leopard 2 A8 or the Korean K2 Black Panther for tank vs tank encounters!

Our tanks, trucks, any mobile division suffers from unable to repair or keep all units functioning, for many things they have to take components from other units and put on better working units So if we have 100 tnaks, maybe 50 of them actually work and can do anything

They didn't manage to acquire the Leopard 1 engine, which is a MTU supercharger V10 diesel engine. In the end, the TR-85 ended up with a turbocharged V8 diesel engine, which some sources say that it was copied from MTU.

Its APFSDS rounds are pretty good as is, no need for 105. Pretty much the most you can get out of a 100-105mm cannon. If it wants an upgrade, it should get 120mm or 125mm.
