I once worked the night shift at an ABC news affiliate, writing and editing for the 5:30 and 6:00am news. What is being described as signs of drug use for Jodi is actually very normal behavior. Your body has so much trouble adjusting to this oddball schedule that you can have wild swings between crashing and being wired and hyper. You can barely get your body to shut down for sleep even if you desperately need it. Takes a very long time to adjust to that.

Also, when her colleague called her, Jodi Did NOT say she’d be there in 20 minutes She said I’ll be out the door in 10 minutes, she only lived 1 mile from The station and it takes less than 5 minutes to get there. @@19holly19I’ve read the book on her case and it seems that at first she really was stalked, there were times where the phone calls and prowling were witnessed by friends and neighbors. There’s also the story on her ex husband who may have been doing the phone calls, apparently she witnessed something along with her husband on his boat prior to them separating. Later on, as the years went by it became apparent that the harassment started to become staged or someone was helping her.
@michaelyatsco14246 жыл бұрын
This is definitely a fascinating case and has a lot of possibilities. I think most people want to pin it on John Vansice but I'm not so sure. John was her closest friend. If they actually got together that night and watched the video at his place or even her place why would he abduct her by the car. I don't see him waiting for her to go out to her car and grab her there makes no sense. He would have done it in either one of the apartments. The brief case being taken could be a red herring because the person could have thought either blood or DNA got on it or some other type of evidence so he just eliminated that risk and through it in the car. It doesn't mean there was some incriminating document. She was running late that day so if the person kept waiting it might have been someone who knew her schedule very well and was watching her for a decent amount of time. I don't think it's anyone at the news station that makes no sense at all. The whole Stiffin in Tiffin thing means nothing to me. Doesn't show one bit that person had anything to do with it. My guess is someone who had been watching her for awhile and infatuated with her grabbed her or there is always the possibility of an opportunist who was there at that time and decided to act on the abduction when he saw her. However I lean toward someone who was watching her for awhile because they pulled this off very effectively and left very little evidence or knowledge they were even at the complex.

I'm glad that the general public isn't responsible for determining who is charged with a crime. The fact that a man is interested in a woman much younger than himself is hardly unusual, and doesn't automatically make him guilty of violence. Everything that I've seen and read about this case portrayed John as the only person involved who was cooperative with the investigation, and Jody didn't seem too upset by his attention. I grew up in Iowa and was a child when this happened. I remember hearing about it on the news. I ended up living in Mason City for about a year recently. There were recently billboards put up in town for information. Only having lived there a year, I don’t have a ton of knowledge of the town, but I will say it’s full of petty crimes and drugs. Not sure if it was still that way in the 90’s. They also have some kind of program where people in Chicago are released on parole in Mason City. This can’t help with the problems. I’m not 100% sure this is true, but it’s what my husband was told. There are quite a few folks from the Chicago area living in town. As far as local cops go, I can’t say, since I didn’t have any involvement with them. I will say that being a small town, murder and abductions aren’t something they deal with often. They probably didn’t do that great of a job as more seasoned detectives who deal with that kind of thing all the time would have. Anyway, I think the consensus is that it was Vancise. You covered info I hadn’t heard about though. I have yet to listen to part 2. I’d only heard there was a murder before her that she was digging in to. Having heard the story, it seems oddly similar to what happened to her, does it not? I find that strange.

First motive needs to be established, high probability many people's first thought would be a male is responsible, when a female who was jealous or in a coven who helped to procure a victim for Satanists "human ritual sacrifice", also could be two perpetrators or more working together. Everything would need to be put on the table, I never heard if her co-workers took polygraphs yet in my view they all needed to take one just to be cleared, also people without a conscious have been known to pass polygraphs, so it isn't a for sure even if they do pass. When everyone is looking in one direction and that does not pan out, there must be something/clues that are being overlooked, possibly right in front and no one can see it. If she is still alive she may even have children by now.

DNA off the cans would have told the entire story of the person watching her had been in use back then. I am guessing it was her older friend John. The guy was totally crushing on her and likely went off the rails when he found out she as hot n heavy for someone brand new and was losing control of the situation. That said, i believe John had fallen in love with her and would protect her at all costs -- her abduction and disappearance I surmise had more to do with a story she was working on and was getting to close too involving crime, corrupt cops on the take and drugs and those involved in all of it.

Good show and complimentary slides. Sadly I get you mixed up with another Podcaster who disgustingly is more concerned with being on air than the victims he's feasting off of.

the items they showed in the parking lot looked "placed" there as if it was staged, which may imply she vanished at a different time not when she was going to work
@northernexposure23104 жыл бұрын
You could be right but Amy Kunz called her early that morning to tell her to get to work. They had an unspoken rule to call each other if the other was late for work. I do agree the items look staged.

Jodi might have suffered from Bipolar 1, not extreme but accounts for the irregular mood swings.

Jodi deserves justice, this is extremely sad. The heinous monster needs to be captured. Mason City had another "large news event" in 1959 when Buddy Holly, Rirchie Valens, and J.P. Richardson were killed in a plane crash.

Anniversary is derived from the root word annual, which means yearly. Therefore, you have presented a grammatical misnomer in suggesting the occasion for this upon a six month interval.

It's very obvious to me who is Responsible for Jodi's disappearance. John Vansice is the culprit, in my opinion. Jodi literally vanished - not too many ways you can make a body disappear that easily. Vansice owned a boat, you do the math. My theory is he killed her, how exactly I don't know. After she was dead, he took her body far out on the water in his boat, weighed her body down good and threw her overboard. It was common knowledge he had deep feelings for her that she didn't reciprocate in the same way. Many say he was even obsessed with her. I think he became bitter that she didn't feel the same and maybe even felt like she had used him (as it was known he gifted her many pricey items). I think this was his motive and he used the boat to get rid of her

I agree. I heard he filmed her birthday party and she danced with another man. They looked great together. John was jealous. I thought Jodi saw John as a father figure. John saw another role. I believe he could have hidden and abducted her after she may have had a fling with an attractive man at the party. Maybe the attractive man didn’t come forward because he was already involved with someone. That could explain why he didn’t go to the police after she went missing. Just my thoughts. May Jodi Rest In Peace. Thank you.

I recommend the book Dead Air. It gave a lot of further details to the case. For instance, it talks about a jogger who was out that morning, that jogged by Jodi's apartment complex every morning, who had witnessed the last moments of Jodi's abduction. For example, the much talked about van almost ran over the jogger on the way out of the apartment complex parking lot.

Since nothing was ever discovered is it possible Jodi could still be alive but conditioned under Stockholm syndrome like Jaycee Dugard she was gone almost 20 years. I don't know anything about Mason City I'm from west coast or any stories that may circulate in Mason City. I just sometimes wonder if she had someone following her maybe it was a infatuated fan, if so why would he kill her when he could keep her. I could be way off, im the same age as Jodi and think of so many things she missed and prey she is either found alive or her remains so she can be layed to rest properly......God bless her loved one & Jodi
