I've been a tracfone user for about 13 or 14 years now. If I was a heavy or even moderate phone user, there is no way I'd use this service. Every time I call someone, the first call usually drops as soon as they pick up, and then I have to call again, and it will never drop again. Also, very often I get voice mail messages that are 3 or even 4 days old by the time my phone notifies me. I'm old and don't use a phone much, so it's not a big deal, but if I was still in my youth....no way.

It's identity theft my guy. Cyber security is a real issue especially those phones granted by the government through ACP lifeline etc. I've had my identity stolen twice bro I'll probably get black bagged and abducted for this comment. A child purchased a tracfone but did not enroll in the cellphone plan. He now can afford to do so but wants to unlock the phone so he can have options. Tracfone refuses unless he meets terms of service. It is illegal to enter into a contract with a child so those terms should not apply to him. Any suggestions?

Interesting legal question. Minors may enter into contracts, but the contract is voidable by the minor at all times, as long as the minor remains a minor (that contract is not void, it's not "illegal"). Once a minor turns of age they would have to disaffirm the contract within a (variable by issue, state, etc) timeframe or else they ratify the contract by their inaction.

Stay away from TracFone! Ordered a phone off their website on November 1st 2024, it's December 3rd and still never received a refund after it never arrived! I had to report them to the BBB after being lied to that my refund was being processed and would take 5 business days. That was November 13th. All I get now is that the refund has been escalated but they cannot tell me a date that I should expect. Have you ever waited over a month for a refund on an item? Probably not. They outsource their customer service and they will lie about answers to get you off the phone. TracFone is a company that only cares about receiving your money. They do not care about you as a customer. I strongly advise you trying another phone service like Mint or Cricket.

Your phone's "hotspot" / data tether feature won't function with most Tracfone plans. Must spend minimum of $40 a month else tethering is turned off on the plan.

Totally ignorant…what does “12 months of activating” mean in reference to eventually unlocking the phone after 12 months? Does that mean I have to buy prepaid service every month for a year? If I get a phone that includes talk/text/data and have it for a year, is that good enough to qualify? Sorry…I always had a plan so Im not sure how this works

it is 60 days to unlock your phone not 12 months straight, talk and TracFone change their policy not too long ago The unlock policy changed around November 2021. for all TracFone brands.

It's hard to find just data or just text cards so I been buying them off the internet. Be aware if your phone is like mine and has an extremely long service plan. DO NOT BUY CARDS WITH SERVICE PLANS. Because if you accept the new plan your old service plan is void.

tracfone use to be good cellphone CO. but any more they can't do any thing right and wen i ask to speak to a manager i get hung up on. i got hug up on over 5 times befor my wife talked to some one there now mind you i have been with tracfone for over 30 plus years but now it looks like i am going to go to mint where i will not get hug up on wen i ask to speak to some one that could help me. if this is what you are looking for Eduardo Diaz Corona then you are doing a very good job of it and tracfone will be no more in no time

They ruin the phones they offer by locking the bootloader down and guaranteeing it will become obsolete in 5 years. Oh, and don't get me started on the lack of OS updates! I hope you enjoy android kitkat, because a ton of their older phones are stuck on it! I have an Alcatel a571vl that I'm digging into purely out of spite.

Don't buy tracfone . It used to be good . Now they're no longer user-friendly . I won't renew my contract when it's up . Like the cable companies , they load you up with things you don't need (minutes,texts) , and screw you out of things you do need(data). If you run out of data , apps don't load . This could be a safety issue , say if you're lost , and your Google maps won't load .

I have had ridiculous problems getting new Tracfones purchased from QVC or HSN properly activated. Tracfone help personnel are off-shore and most have heavy accents that are barely understandable. If you aren't familiar with the cell phone, or are an inexperienced user of cell phones, communication with Tracfone help personnel will be more difficult and may take hours or days with different helpers. Have not been able to transfer contacts, etc. from old to new phones. If you survive activation hassles, Tracfone is a cheap alternative. You may be better off choosing a more expensive, more user friendly, phone system.
