I was born in Billings and my Mom, Dad and late Uncle all worked for BN. My mom and Dad left before the merger going their own ways after, but my late Uncle stayed and retired as an office worker.

these videos are so well done! the progress you are making is amazing keep it up! Amazing prototype details, cheers Wade
hey Cam, new subscriber to your channel. I love your videos partly because you show that parts of building a layout that are problems. We all have them, but so many KZbinrs just show the finished product without the problems and how they fixed them. You do! Thanks!!!

Thanks! Glad you enjoy the video style. I don't exactly intend for these to be tutorials, but I hope I show enough to communicate the thought that goes into it. -Cam

Thanks, John! It really has been a long time. I wasn't working on the layout for a few months in late 2021, but for about 18 months since then I've been working as hard as ever. -Cam

Very nice prototype arrangements at both Essex and Columbia Falls Cam. I still think you would reap a lot of benefits if you extended your Essex siding further into the dispatchers room and joining it to the mainline coming up. For a few feet of track and a left hand turnout you would effectively have 2 mainlines through Essex giving much more operation flexibility. 5:34 Do yourself a favour and get a pair of actual rail nippers fron Xuron if you have anymore traxkwork to do. The curs aren't quite installation ready but need very little dressing with a file.

Hey Cam! Nice video and thanks for showing the prototype next to your layout. You've done an excellent job of replicating it. Question - at 13:40 what brand of GP's are those? I need to get a couple of 4 axle locos for my layout and I like the looks of those. Thanks for posting the video! - Brian

Thanks, Brian! 2079 is an Athearn Genesis Gp38-2, and 2028 is an Atlas Master GP38-2. I'd suggest looking at some of the newer Athearn Genesis GP38 and GP39 offerings because they already have nice LEDs installed. The two units you saw in the video had to have lighting replaced and/or installed (like ditch lights on 2028). -Cam

hello railfan220 it's is randy and i like yours video is cool thanks and ( solder railway joint ) thanks friends randy
@stewarttrains98 Жыл бұрын
You will never have issues with expansion and contraction if you have plenty of non soldered joints for expansion. If you are the type of person who solders every joint, that's a problem. Every 10 feet or so don't solder a joint. Leave a small gap between the rail ends and you'll never have a issue. I have been doing this in non climate controlled and climate controlled spaces and never had an issue.

Hey Cam, Looks amazing! Can I ask, what software did you use for your track plan graphics?
@railfan220 Жыл бұрын
Thanks! I used Empire Express, which is a track planning software for Mac. -Cam

What's your highest speed zone on this layout?
@railfan220 Жыл бұрын
I don't really have any defined. Per the prototype, it's probably like 50mph through Columbia Falls, but because the layout is functionally a continuous climb, a full-length road freight is almost always on some part of the grade. -Cam

You know what no one ever talks about? How many gallons of water does it take to make a layout. I sat back and thought about it with all the plaster cloth and model compound plus ballasting plus whatever other random uses it has on a layout, a lot of water is used!
@railfan220 Жыл бұрын
Good point! I haven't really thought of that either, but you're definitely right. Lots of water for glue, breaking surface tension, plaster, etc. -Cam
