Thank you Chris! This solved an issue that stumped me. I could see a thin vertical grey beam in the midi track which was triggering an expression parameter on a plugin when the playhead crossed it. It simply didn't show up anywhere in the midi track drop down parameters and because I couldn't find it I couldn't work out how to delete it until this gave me an insight. If anyone has the same issue: drop down the parameter lanes as Chris explains, then double click the midi track so it opens in the edit pane below, then (in my case) I could now see in the parameter lane under the midi track an active horizontal yellow line begin at the exact point of the vertical grey beam, which was labeled 'modulation' (confusingly instead of 'expression'), so now I could delete it. The thing is I couldn't find it anywhere in the track drop down menu. It was only by going into the midi edit window that this parameter even appeared. Thanks again Chris!!

Just want to give big thanks to you sir! I love the tutorials, your overall philosophy on making them and genuine sincerity in trying to help people get better and more efficiency in their creativity. If you haven’t already I’d love to hear your thoughts on the insert channel strip and where plug-ins should sit in the chain. I’d love to know your stance on sends vs insert for delays and reverbs etc as I often just see inserts of space designer etc than sends etc. Just ideas for you to mull over. Thanks so much, I have leveled up over lockdown thanks to your channel. 👍🏻

Thanks for this video. I'm new to Logic. I was trying to do multiple patch changes on an external synth and I couldn't figure out why newly added sections were reverting to first patch on the track. Now I see that it must have been a track automation that carried over to new regions that I was adding.

one thing you can do as well if you want to adjust the volume automation and preserve edits is to hit shift + control + H and create a folder stack. Then you can still adjust the track volume with a fader in the mixer.

Hey Chris, You are amazing, thanks for all your help on your channel. Could you please make a video on how to copy and past 'Region Automation' between tracks? This has eluded me for way too long. Big thanks from Chicago!!
@drauncj2 жыл бұрын
Also big thanks from Chicago! And yes, PLEASE tell us there's a way to copy and paste automation. Or better yet, why can't we open two region automation lanes (let's say Volume and Pan) at the same time, select the automation in one of them, and then paste it into the other? Why, oh WHY can't we do this????????????? (and for good measure, more '?') ????????
@RokhartMusic2 жыл бұрын
You could try this: In Logic Pro, hold down Shift while dragging a selection within the automation area. Choose Edit > Copy (or use the corresponding key command). Select the track you want to copy the automation to. Choose Edit > Paste (or use the corresponding key command). 🤔
@drauncj2 жыл бұрын
@@RokhartMusicThank you, but you really ought to try this yourself. You have definitely described the method anyone would try first. You can imagine our surprise and frustration upon discovering that this does not work. If you select an automation lane (example: Expression) in the Piano Roll, Copy, and then pull up a different automation lane on the same track (example: Moduation), and Paste, all this does is duplicate what you copied (Expression) to the same lane it's from (Expression). In other words, the selection of the lane is irrelevant-it's just going to copy it to the same lane it's for. Yes, this is the same for using Region automation in the Main window. In fact, there is where you can truly see that your suggested functionality doesn't work-if you have more than one lane open, you'll see you can only select the top one, and you can watch your Copy action do exactly what you don't want it to do.
@RokhartMusic2 жыл бұрын
@@drauncj Sorry I only copy and paste one track or region and one function each time.

Hi Chris, great video. I don't know if this happens to you too but say I have 4 lanes of automation for 4 different parameters of a synth. When I hit "A" to switch to automation view, I hit the "plus" sign to expand to show all 4 automation lanes of different parameters. But when I leave automation view and come back to it later, I see maybe only 3 lanes and have to hit the "plus" again to see all 4 lanes. Sometimes, I do see 4 lanes but 2 of the lanes are repeats/clones of the same parameter. Has this happened to you and any idea how to work around this? Thanks again for all these nuanced tips!

thanks, i noticed that when drawing midi automation in the piano roll (region automation), there is no marquee tool. Is there a way to make a shelf shaped automation without the marquee but without the need of clicking and making 4 automation dots?

I really hoped to see you breakdown EQ automation. When I automate my EQ low pass filter, I hear this annoying pop within my track and for the life of me I cant figure out a way to get rid of it.
@TheMirolab3 жыл бұрын
Because of the maths involved, SOME Eq's will have clicks & pops when changing parameters. But Logic's Eq has always been good for me. I've done very smooth frequency sweeps with it, and it sounds great. Are you using the regular channel Eq or the linear phase one? Linear phase might not sweep as smoothly.
